RP Channels in SWG

Idea was proposed that we make a channel in SWG for roleplayers.

Perhaps one IC and one OOC.

This topic is to discuss this idea. I don't know squat about channels.. so please let me know what you think about this idea.

It's really easier than you think to create a channel in game, it's just a pain in the butt to get the right window open that allows you to actually create it. They didn't exactly put it somewhere in the UI that makes a lot of sense, intuitively.

I personally probably wouldn't use an RP channel, simply because I already have a spatial, a guild, and a Nocturnus town window open as it is. (Before some wise-guy tells me to just add them all to Spatial, you stand in Theed or Corellia for an hour and wonder where all the /tells went to as they fly off the spatial window from AFK vendor spamming).

I have everything in spatial so I can see things initially, and then if I miss them I go to the specific /tell, /gu, /g, or whatever window.

As I said before in another thread, I have 2 channels actively going at all times, and it wouldn't be too much trouble for me to add a third. The problem, like has been said, is actually creating the channel.

As far as one IC and one OOC, that would be adding 2 new channels which may be quite much. For IC stuff, I would much rather be put on a IC Mailing list, since I can save that stuff to my comp later anyway and have a good documentation of stories.

Hmmm...I like the idea of an OOC chat channel just to help organize things better, but an in-character one wouldn't really be realisitic. I like to keep most of my In-character speach to spatial (to draw non-RPers in) and my in-character messages to people in e-mail. I use /tells for comlink communiques in character. A chat tab would be hard to explain in character.

Yes, I think the best use of an RP channel would be a place to point roleplayers to who are looking for other roleplayers, OOC of course. Some gamers want nothing to do with web sites and forums, they want to stay strictly in game. This could also be a vehicle for announcements and events.

I think the IC channel should be called "Spatial".
