Yet another reason for me to get the hell outta here

I don't think anyone but you is elevating this show to that level, frer. I'm pretty sure this show doesn't have the blessing of The Vatican or any other religious leaders.

If you can't take satire, you're taking your fandom too seriously.

I was using that example to put people into the shoes of those arguing against this.

Some things are important to some people, and not to others. If something you held in esteem higher than anything else was being poked fun of, wouldn't you raise a fuss?

Rather than bust in and argue a certain point like an idiot with a flamethrower and a soapbox, I try to open minds to understand the story. You don't see me posting blurbs on things or ideas that others feel strongly about, and then poking fun at it.

And yeah, Jesus telling some guy he's tailgating makes me chuckle.

There are some things and situations where satire just isn't right. Some people have a really dark sense of humor. Sometimes that isn't appropriate for mainstream TV or media.

3 words.

"Turn"

"it"

"off"

You have the final say for what media you watch. You do not have the final say in what media I watch.

Put it to the following test.
  • You know, I really think the sitcom "The West Wing" is in bad taste. Especially during a time of war. I think the writers are portraying the president as tolerant of corruption and ineptitude and I condemn them for this depiction of the president.
There are people in Iraq dying for what they beleive in and the Asshats protesting "Book of Daniel" are probably going home, turning this on and slapping their knees going "Gosh darn that's a funny show".

It's the same damn thing.

If someone truly believes in an ideal, then they should not fear them being tested. But heaven forbid if a producer makes a show that may make people think or maybe examine oneself and their ideals and maybe entertain at the same time. Nope, we must stick to the mindless pablum in order to not offend anyone.

Do the people protesting this show really think that someone will base their entire opinion about Jesus on this show? Do they base their entire opinions of the president from what's on "The West Wing"? I wonder if they think people base their entire opinion about Quakers from what's on side of a box of Quaker Oats?

When it's all said and done. There are far more heinous and inappropriate things in this world than a satire sitcom involving a characters mental delusions about Jesus. There are some real battles that need to be fought and then there are the stupid ones.

This is one of the stupid ones.

Isleh, I have to agree that this is just stupid. And the argument is stupid. Really, there isn't much point in this thread at all.

You won't find my name on any sort of list protesting shows, or crap on TV. I don't bother with TV, unless it's time for BSG.

"Turn it off"

If it is mainstream, available to everyone, broadcast TV, there are moral restrictions that have been set for years. These restrictions have been steadily falling apart year by year, season by season. The moral fabric of our society is in shambles. Blah blah blah ranty rant rant. People have been arguing over what should be broadcast, and what is censorship for a long time. We aren't about to solve the debate on this board. So.... with no further ado, I withdraw from this battlefield.

Isleh, no ill will. I don't want to clash with you on an issue that can't be resolved. You are right the whole thing is just stupid.

Whar,

No ill will :)

"The moral fabric of our society is in shambles [and/or in decline]." has most likely been used by someone to describe the state of a civilization probably since the dawn of civilization. As soon as someone said "We've discovered a thing called civilization" someone probably immediatly announced right after that society is in shambles and in a decline because of it.

Assuming that is true, one can then argue that civilization IS the decline of the moral fabric of a society.

SO......

Civilization (n) 1: a society in an advanced state of social decline (e.g., with complex legal and political and religious organizations) 2: The social process whereby societies achieve ignorance. (i.e., Members of the society must become more specilized as the Civilization progresses. While the knowledge of that specilization may become infinitesimaly large, the area of said knowledge becomes smaller until it reaches zero and a person knows absolutly everything about nothing )
