Battlestar Galactica

They still have an unknown Cylon amongst them. The Fleet News Service reporter, D'anna Biers (Lucy Lawless) is a Cylon or at least a human sympathizer. And as far as we've seen she's still amongst the fleet and undetected. Can't overlook what they don't know is there. *Dun-dun-DUNNN!*
Yeah, it's an assumption that all 12 models were on the Resurrection. If I were them, I wouldn't put any models on "the front" that weren't compromised already. But even if they did, the intel photos were limited to one single flyby. She didn't shoot every square foot of the ship.

One thing that would be more valuable than the photos, which they should do if they completely routed the Cylons in that sector and forced them to retreat, would be to do some post battle recon, and start picking up dead Cylons and identify the 12 models (or any others they haven't seen yet if there aren't 12 on the ship) that way. Also: free dissection.

But I'm sure we won't see that.

Oh, and I'm sure Lucy's a Cylon.

Sepiv wrote:So, does anybody else here starting to question if the "Six" in Baltar's head is supposed to really only be from his own mind and not something done to him back in the premiere? After all, there really is nothing the scanners can detect in him. And if "Six" really did go to those pyramid games then why wouldn't that be a shared part of memory for the newly freed "Six" to recognize when Baltar restated the entire thing?

Either "Six" did not transfer back for resurrection (somehow did go into Baltar's mind) or Baltar has been making the entire thing up from an overwhelming sense of guilt and selfish need to be so desired and loved by the woman frakking with his head. I can't decide.
There's two ways to take the "I miss sports" monologue.

1). It was a romantic gesture, a way for Six to tell Gaius that she's "always loved him." It could have been anything. I miss the Opera. I miss the Theater. I always bought two tickets because even before I met you; I've always loved you. She made it up. Then Gaius used it on the second Six because hey, good line.

2). It IS a shared memory for all Sixes, and by telling second Six, he's basically taking the final step towards gaining her confidence. It's telling her "hey, I know six, so therefore, I know you."

Either way, I love how jealous Six was about it.

Okay, last post for me today regarding BSG.

The best take-away quote from this ep came from Boomer, and it confirms my main suspicion for the motivation of the Cylons.

It's during her conversation with Adama. She cleverly sidesteps a question about why the Cylons hate the humans, thereby admitting that the Cylons do NOT hate the humans. More importantly, she answers his question with a human question, the same one Adama states waaaayyyy back in the 2 part mini-series, paraphrased, he says "We've never asked ourselves why we deserve to survive."

Boomer repeats this line back to him, and then deflects the truth of her statement by saying "maybe you don't."

I've always thought that the Cylon's motivation was one of a master to a student; a trial by fire. The Cylons are forcing the humans to answer their own question: Why do we deserve to survive?

I love it love it love it.

I think that's a great possible answer. The models differ in their levels of humanity certainly (there was the quote about how Sharon's model was closer to humanity, hence the choice for infiltration), so they may not all agree on their purpose. They seem focused though on Biblical (Old Testament style) vision -- exterminating humanity to receive God's gift, the right to be their own race and not the creation of flawed humanity. Humanity has lost its faith, lost its place in the eyes of who the Cylons call God.

The Hebrews exterminating all in their path in their crusade to retake their holy land over 2000 years ago -- not conquering Jericho but killing every living thing in order to replace it, as they believed God had told them to do. We saw an excellent special on the History channel a month ago and we were struck with the similarities!

So, am I a nugget for still liking the original Battlestar Galactica at this point? :neutral:

I like the original Battlestar. I like this Battlestar. You can't compare the two. The only thing that is the same about them is the names and characters. They are completely different series after that. The people that don't like one or the other are the ones unable to get past the differences in the two series.

Nah, I kinda liked the first one when I was a kid, but even before this new series came out, I realized how infantile the first one is. They've got this "unit," called the "centon."

Which is hilarious, because it's a universal unit of measure. It measures time (I'll be there in 10 centons), distance (they're about 15 centons out), and money (that costs 8 centons). But what they never even really thought about is that is the most flawed measurement system ever. How the crap do you say how fast someone is going?

80 centons per centon??!? If someone says "How far away are you?" and you answer "About 8 centons," does that mean you're 8 minutes or 8 miles? Because depending on speed, that's a huuuuuuge difference.

And yes, I AM crazy. Why do you ask?

Well X'an you are actually incorrect. There were minor differences. Granted they did double some things but not all.

Taken from here:

E10. What are the standard Colonial units of measurement?
The relationships between Colonial units of measurements was never clearly defined in the series. In most cases, only an appropriate table of closest Earth measurements is provided, based on the usage of the terms in the actual episodes.

1. Time units and their closest Earth equivalents

* micron(s) - second
* centon (sen'-tawn) - minute
* centar, centares (sen'-tar, sen-tar'-ays) - hour
* secton(s) (sek'-tawn) - week
* sectar, sectares (sek'-tar, sek-tar'-ays) - month
* yahren (yah'-rain) - year
* millenium - 1000 years

Centon, micron and sectar also doubled as units of length, in much the same way as the light year. The light yahren is the Colonial equivalent of the light year. The quatron (week or month) was used in the episode "Magnificent Warriors". Other nonstandard units were almost exclusively used in the pilot, including millisenton (several minutes) and microsenton (second), and the senton (day or week). Note, the senton in the first two episodes is used in a different context than in the rest of the series, hence its different spelling.

For a more thorough discussion of the time units and what they represent, view the separate document Colonial Time Units and Their Earth Equivalents.

2. Other units

* metron - unit of distance
* maxim - 10 meters
* hectar - 100 meters
* metric - 1 kilometer

* kilon - unit of power (1 kilowatt)
* megon - unit of mass (1 megaton)
* laxon - unit of dry measurement (1 bushel)
* voltons - voltage unit (1 volt)
* wavelon - unit of wavelength
* radion - unit of radiation
* ergon - unit of energy

3. Currency
There are several recognized units of currency, including Colonial cubits, Orion Cheques, quantums and markers.

All I'm saying is in one ep, all they used were Centons. For everything.

I can't argue with that list. All I can do is repeat what I heard ;)

Is that the one on the ice planet where Apollo had the Casio calculator watch and punched in whatever number he needed the countdown timer to be at?

Just to add to this:

I LOVE BSG. I just think the people in the forums above are the most anal critics of scifi imaginable.

It might be. I just remember that they kept having this big countdown! to some event and the graphics were like straight out of the old LED days.
