Another Av's Fan!!!!!! Yeah!! I love the Av's! However I have to disagree with your statement as an avid hockey buff. While if the Av's still had Patrick Roy the greatest goalie to ever live they probably would have won the cup. They are not in the corner sucking their thumbs.
While Kariya and his buddy didn't add the offensive punch the Av's were hoping they would Kariya was injured most of the season, and due to the large number of great forwards Selanee time on the ice was cut which resulted in a reduction in his production.
This year (if we have a year) will suck for the Av's but that's because Forsberg will be playing in Sweeden all year no matter what. You can't lose the best forward in the league and expect to win the cup, especially with a sophmore in net.
Yes they've made some mistakes the last few years I have to admit. Trading Chris Drury and then Morris was bad. They'll need some more young talent to step up this year and next if they want to continue their legacy.

First, let me say I am a huge Buffalo Sabres fan; always have been, always will be. As for Roy being the best goalie ever, I think people will look at the career of Martin Brodeur when all is said and done, and will recognize him as the best goalie to ever play.
Kariya won't play another game for the Av's, ditto with Forsberg (Iginla is the best forward in the league), Selanne, and possibly Tanguay. Although their pockets are deep enough to bring in more talent, the new CBA is going to seriously tie the owners hands on how much money they can spend.
