They also lose XP if a BH completes their mission
From the FAQ
_____
"Jedi experience loss for dying from a BH with a mission is twice the payout of the mission, or rather 2000 times the number of skill points the Jedi has spent on Jedi and FS skills (unless they've been killed by a BH recently, then it's the minimum loss). The minimum XP loss is -50,000 and the maximum is -500,000."
Anybody still doing the Jedi grind?
If this game were the movies...but alas, it is not. In SWG, Jedi is a battle profession.Ekade wrote:Whoa..

Jedi is not a profession at all. It is an order. It is a philosophy. It is a way of life.
Jedi is about being aware.. sensing, doing the right thing. How much lightsaber training did Yoda put Luke through? Not a lick. He taught Luke how to feel and reach out with the force.
To me, jedi is more an attunement to ones surroundings. The better (more powerful) you were, the less fighting you did.

The same could be said for Teras Kasi, but representing it in SWG comes down to being somewhat uber in combination with being a good roleplayer. Unless they start giving away xp for roleplaying, I don't know that I could make suggestions to improve upon the Jedi grind.Ekade wrote:Jedi is not a profession at all. It is an order. Although an interesting thought of roleplaying xp comes to mind, something that is controlled and served by other players.

Hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Also take comfort in the fact that your experiences posted here may help others decide what they want/don't want to do.

One day my char will unlock and when that happens I am going to create a light side jedi. With that jedi I will not fight but use to help ohers, shunning the lightsaber to use only when threatened. I will make him a jedi who fell from the order kinda like Jolee bindo only he still uses the basic guidelines of the light side and is not so mad. I want to make him a kind old man who helps others in their time of need.

I'm not doing the Force XP grind, nor am I looking to do it.
When hologrinding was all the rage, I did it. I'll be honest with you, had I not started the hologrind, I would have been gone from this game a long time ago. By grinding, I was able to do things and defer the things I wanted to do, and thus never run out of things to do when I logged on. If you ever believe that you've run out of things, that is not a good feeling.
I do not support the jedi system, nor do I agree with having player controled jedi in game. On some level, I think all of you share my views. As roleplayers, I believe it is our aim to be immersed in the Star Wars universe and within our character in any given situation. The PC jedi break that immersion at every turn.
Think about every jedi you have ever met in game. How many of them "acted" the way you feel jedi should be. If you can name two, I would be surprised (I'll say Dillion is a given). If you can name more than five I will be SHOCKED. They're constantly trying to kill everything they see. Light or Dark, they all have the same template. It's all the "uber d00ds" who grind and grind and grind and can't WAIT to make Padawan so they can show off their glowstick. Everytime I see a jedi robe, saber, or title, I get a little closer to quitting the game.
It seems to me that I'm not seeing less jedi in game. I'm seeing more. Couple that with all of the people who are trying to become jedi, and I believe will have Jedi Galaxies.
I believe all jedi should be wiped. I even started a BH toon on another server to try to do my part.

The penalties Isleh listed are correct. I took a full blow some days ago. I was caught off guard, engaged with a mob when the BH showed up on Yavin, I was down with a dizzy so fast I was cursing at the silly mob, what the fudge! you shouldnt be doing that! I lost 142k jedi xp on a BH death blow and subsequent cloning since no doctor was anywhere near me. In addition I have a lot of skillpoints spent because I have most novice boxes (8sp) for small mods and helpful skills. some healing, some defense, some powers. Little things that make it easier for me to hunt, though without being very powerful with my blades.
I make around 50k xp on a full buff cycle, focused and not chatting on the side. 500xp per quenker I manage to slice. Its challenging fighting too. Unlike the normal, doc buff, 80% kinetic res armor on, spam your moves until the mobs fall and drink some brandy once in awhile. Its focused play. Any amount of attention not given to those 2-3 pathetic little quenkers could mean I die. That makes the grind a lot more taxing, for me than any other I've done. Its fun that way but the stretch up hill with all the variables you have working agsint you, is REALLY up hill.
in roleplay, I've played using the philosphies lightly as my character gained a little strength. I want her to evolve as a character. How many knows for how many months I've been walking around doing casual RPs, danced and done my usual thing, with a robe and a lightsaber in my inv?
Ekade has a point in her post on the state of mind and heart. For sure a glowing stick does not make one a "jedi". Its a way of life, a philosphy. a state of being. My own character isnt growing much in this, she has little guidance but her own life experience which many a Master for sure would call reckless and irresponsible <grins>
Should the Jedi be in the game? Perhaps not. There is no way to keep out the powergamers and only give the roleplayers this option. Perhaps it is better to leave them out but I doubt they will. Too many of us have the little jedi in our tummy.

I'm on off grinding. I've never been the type who spends countless hours learning the in's and out's of a game like my brothers so I dont really know what phase and who to talk to for what missions to get what skills and I dont really care...except it's kinda important for a personal story line but that's besides the point.
This Force XP grind is a monster and has really turned me away from really trying it. This IS a good thing because it kinda helps reduce the amount of people BECOMING jedi but the core problem that made them change it to this system still remains every one and their cousin's cousin is a jedi. I do a little every now and then when I have nothing else to do.

if so, when you do attain padawan, what about your ubese helmet you wear to protect your face, since I thought jedi cannot wear armor...

Q: Jedi robes? In movies, they often pull off their robes. Since our jedi can't wear armor, can they wear pants, boots, whatever, to keep from painting a target on themselves?
A: Jedi can't wear armor. When wearing armor, they can't use force powers or saber specials. We have a whole set of special jedi robes (full outfits: Boots, pants, belt, etc. not just 'robes'). There's ones that you can choose to wear at Padawan, and other special ones that go up the force ranks. The higher up the FRS you go, the more varied your robes can be. There will be very few people at this level, those guys are going to be really powerful. So, yeah, it's like painting a big target on their forehead, but they're going to have the power to back it up and that's their choice.
There's a disparity right now with Jedi not being able to wear armor, and everyone else who can, until the combat balance comes live. The robes will give more protections (not 90% composite, but) that allow you to go out and fight in the world. At the combat balance, this will change as everyone is brought to a level playing field. As well, Jedi now have much better force defenses, so completely naked cna do things other people can't in armor.

Ok, I've seen a few questions I think I have the answers to. First Jedi can lose up to negative 10 million XP. So you can create quite the hole to climb out of. Basically I beileve there's a -50k xp whenever you clone plus an added penalty if killed by a BH and another penalty if incapped 3 times I believe. So many BH's and incapping the Jedi 3 times and so really hammering them with the negative XP.
As to Armor I actually believe Jedi can wear armor but while in the armor can not use any force powers or their lightsaber. But I'm not 100% possitive about that. I believe in the SWG newletter this week it include a fan jedi site with all of this information in it if any of you are curious.
Also you maybe interested in reading what the Jedi Knight Trials require. Even the Padawan trials seemed like another huge grind. And Knight requires you kill a Krayt and I don't recall of which type but it was specific like an ancient krayt or a canyon Krayt.
As to the grind I had started but with JTL I really slacked off, I've only unlocked two branches at this point and got no free branches as my first holo was Carbineer and I just couldn't force myself to master it.
However recently I was feeling very down about the game, and just unfocused with no direction for my character. However after reading up on that website I've decided to commit to grinding Jedi again. Mostly for RP purposes, and Noct is the perfect hide out for a Jedi so I like the way the story is looking. Sure it will take me 3 years to grind all that XP but what the heck.

I agree, Nocturnus, or at least the surrounding desolence would be a good place for a Jedi in hiding. No questions asked.
One of the things that always struck me about the SW saga was that Obi Wan stayed out in the Tattooine desert for around 20 years waiting for Luke to cross his path in just the right way...
Chillin'...in a shack...eatin' crackers...making hand made sandals...20 years. That's dedication.

You know I've always found that interesting. Every other Jedi in hiding was in an area with a strong force presence in the area to hide themselves such as Yoda with the Darkside Cave. But Obi=Wan wasn't
