This particular changing of the game still seems very drastic and a very painful change. Will I still be here after this goes live? Yes. If just to RP a little more with everyone. How long will it be before I finally throw in after and start saying farewells to most of you in game? I have no idea; I just know this drastic changing to copy other massive players was the 'wrong' answer. And most of the people who seem to like it are playing WoW and L2 and CoH anyway. So much for this game being Unique now.
HAM works. It went from unrealistic formula grinding to painful 'you have to group to get anywhere' grinding. The Devs have just proved that they can't under any circumstances find a balance. Keep my email handy folkes... it might be hard to get ahold of me in game in a month or so.
In light of that though... it's not like the game is doomed. For everyone they lose they always get one, if not two, players back or new to the game. I'm just saying this system isn't what 'I' wanted or pay for. And RP can only go so far for me. Hell, even Entertainment is kind of worthless now. But this does prove one thing... Combat effects a lot of what the game is.
I seriously agreed with you for some time. I was thinking of throwing in the towel after reading most of the info, but I now completely disagree. I've done a complete 180.
I've never played WoW or any other MMORPG, except the MUD Gemstone III. And the things I thought I would dislike about the system aren't so bad.
HAM sure they're changing it, but it's really not the 1 life bar they made it sound like. The diversity is still there and the other two AM will still play a large roll in combat their roll is just changed. You will still target these bars it just won't be considered "damage".
I'm not sure if you're thinking their giving Jedi or have a good boost, but if so please go to the Jedi Forum on SOE and you'll see their not. They're taking some heavy "nerfing" in fact to several key skills however even there I think in the end the changes are excellent. And will lead to more diversity.
Now I do not like group hunting, I'm on at the wrong hours to find groups so I like to Solo. All they're saying is you can't go kill an Ackley or Krayt yourself. And that's as it should be. The TC5 is to test how difficult the grind is, so if you're on and having trouble advancing they'll take this into account before the final publish I'm sure so don't worry it won't be that bad.
Wind up and Cool downs are actually a very good feature, I didn't like the idea at first like most of the CU however the more info I get the better it makes me feel. Believe me this CU is going to be better for combat, better for RP and better for the game.
Most people are looking at it from 1 perspective, that of their current profession, but their looking at it from only that 1 professions stand point. I think if you just look at what you want to do in game, solo, rp, heal, group hunt. You can corrolate that to the diagram they posted and find something you'll be VERY happy with, and the system will make most everyone that gives it a fighting chance happy.
I like to solo as I said earlier, now I'm a BH great I've got good defense, good offense and so I'm pretty balanced right from the go. I throw in my Pistoleer to increase Crowd Control and add a few options to my offense and defense and I can keep right on going, and probably not notice much.
Now sure for TKM it's a bit different. Now to perform your specials and get the damage you're used to you may have to have a 2-hand sword in tow. However doesn't it make more sense that you'd do more damage with a sword then your hand? You could still solo VERY well, wouldn't have to change your RP really so unless you hate swords I don't see the big issue.
I think the nay sayers are simply afraid, and they have good cause don't get me wrong, but just about everyone is afraid of change, and afraid of the unknown. Now SOE could and should help by releasing some more info on the unknown and I honestly don't think the change is anything to be afraid of. If you really look at it as a fix instead of a nerf to this or that, and see it for the balance that it is, I think you'll learn to appreciate it as I have.
