CU Update from inside TC5

:???:

The wound healing abilities are still in the entertainer professions even though the wounds have been removed.

That means that the muscian and dancer professions has 1 entire skill tree, 14 points, dedicated to nothing.

They make it harder... and harder to stay a dancer.

Ok, now I've tried it! Got on TC5 today and started grinding and fooling around with it. If it goes live like that; I'm just going to be paying to RP behind closed doors. My impression of this new system is exactly this; If I wanted to play WoW or CoH or Lineage 2... I'd be playing those and not Star Wars Galaxies.

It's cliche' to say it; But this CU is going to make it very hard for me to 'want' to log on now. A bunch of people left for those games and came back to get away from those games and now their changing it to mimic those very games. I just don't get it!?!?

I love ya all, but this isn't the game I wanted to play. It's still formual; but it's more painful than a casual player should have to deal with. We can only hope this is the biggest pre-planned April Fool's joke of them all! Sorry to be the nay sayer of the forum too.... but this concept... I do not like. Not being able to solo high end content is one thing... not being able to painlessly level as a casual gamer... that's quite another thing.

my two cents

CU is a good thing.. its about damn time people couldnt solo the high end mobs, that is what is destroying the game..

I shouldnt be able to go toe to toe with a Krayt dragon.. hello 400k ham.. one person.. that isnt what the game is meant to be..

also, the devs are still working on this.. thus why it is CU BETA.. this isnt the finished product.. they are getting the bugs out and tweaking as we speak.. give it a chance, i think you will find alot more people rping now to be honest, and alot fewer afk spoilers.

i was on TC last night and i have to say i havent had that much fun in a very long time.. it felt like the old days, when it took a group to take out a mob.

see y'all tonight

My sentiments exactly!

My only tagline to this is that while the combat is good and I think with a few tweaks it will be better, the graphics/toolbar/animation updates were unneeded, unwanted and ugly. They turned my semi-realistic environment to cartoon land

My only saving grace is that apparently the Devs are getting HORDES and HORDES of horrible feedback on the graphics end of things, so I expect to see the cutesy/fantasy animations gone before it goes live.

The combat is intuitive and with some more UI updates and fixes (auto-attacks on lairs.....ugh) it will become easier.

All I can say is that I am getting more and more negative reports from people I have talked to that went to TC5. I don't have time to play much - and I certainly don't have time to beta for them. How can they have come up with a system that seems to be in this disposition when they have so many dedicated "correspondents" dumping their input to this?

I just don't get it, they seemed to have gone in to it with the right attitude but things are not looking so pretty all of a sudden.

In one Dev post they've mentioned that the xp calculations will likely be bumped from what they are now. They only want you to kill a few creatures per box to move up the novice trees, then get into more of a longer grind once at the novice elite prof level.

Besides, you won't be grinding as a n00b, there will be a respec

It always seems that way when they make a change to me, Jabe. From the great Profession nerf patches to the odd, Let's give it all to Jedi, patches.

This particular changing of the game still seems very drastic and a very painful change. Will I still be here after this goes live? Yes. If just to RP a little more with everyone. How long will it be before I finally throw in after and start saying farewells to most of you in game? I have no idea; I just know this drastic changing to copy other massive players was the 'wrong' answer. And most of the people who seem to like it are playing WoW and L2 and CoH anyway. So much for this game being Unique now.

HAM works. It went from unrealistic formula grinding to painful 'you have to group to get anywhere' grinding. The Devs have just proved that they can't under any circumstances find a balance. Keep my email handy folkes... it might be hard to get ahold of me in game in a month or so.

In light of that though... it's not like the game is doomed. For everyone they lose they always get one, if not two, players back or new to the game. I'm just saying this system isn't what 'I' wanted or pay for. And RP can only go so far for me. Hell, even Entertainment is kind of worthless now. But this does prove one thing... Combat effects a lot of what the game is.

Theres been alot of profession revamps in this that wernt needed to begin with. Pistoleer for instance (since its my main prof) has become a total support profession now and is no longer an offence profession. Minimal damage, not that great defence, and all crowd control? Why put a pistol in a position where it has to be crowd control? Wouldnt you want your fastest weapons hitting the front lines and save the pounders for the finish? Right now, Pistoleer is a profession that medics, SL's and Docs are gonna want to have....but nobody else who wants to be viable outside a group with mid lvl mobs.

I seriously agreed with you for some time. I was thinking of throwing in the towel after reading most of the info, but I now completely disagree. I've done a complete 180.

I've never played WoW or any other MMORPG, except the MUD Gemstone III. And the things I thought I would dislike about the system aren't so bad.

HAM sure they're changing it, but it's really not the 1 life bar they made it sound like. The diversity is still there and the other two AM will still play a large roll in combat their roll is just changed. You will still target these bars it just won't be considered "damage".

I'm not sure if you're thinking their giving Jedi or have a good boost, but if so please go to the Jedi Forum on SOE and you'll see their not. They're taking some heavy "nerfing" in fact to several key skills however even there I think in the end the changes are excellent. And will lead to more diversity.

Now I do not like group hunting, I'm on at the wrong hours to find groups so I like to Solo. All they're saying is you can't go kill an Ackley or Krayt yourself. And that's as it should be. The TC5 is to test how difficult the grind is, so if you're on and having trouble advancing they'll take this into account before the final publish I'm sure so don't worry it won't be that bad.

Wind up and Cool downs are actually a very good feature, I didn't like the idea at first like most of the CU however the more info I get the better it makes me feel. Believe me this CU is going to be better for combat, better for RP and better for the game.

Most people are looking at it from 1 perspective, that of their current profession, but their looking at it from only that 1 professions stand point. I think if you just look at what you want to do in game, solo, rp, heal, group hunt. You can corrolate that to the diagram they posted and find something you'll be VERY happy with, and the system will make most everyone that gives it a fighting chance happy.

I like to solo as I said earlier, now I'm a BH great I've got good defense, good offense and so I'm pretty balanced right from the go. I throw in my Pistoleer to increase Crowd Control and add a few options to my offense and defense and I can keep right on going, and probably not notice much.

Now sure for TKM it's a bit different. Now to perform your specials and get the damage you're used to you may have to have a 2-hand sword in tow. However doesn't it make more sense that you'd do more damage with a sword then your hand? You could still solo VERY well, wouldn't have to change your RP really so unless you hate swords I don't see the big issue.

I think the nay sayers are simply afraid, and they have good cause don't get me wrong, but just about everyone is afraid of change, and afraid of the unknown. Now SOE could and should help by releasing some more info on the unknown and I honestly don't think the change is anything to be afraid of. If you really look at it as a fix instead of a nerf to this or that, and see it for the balance that it is, I think you'll learn to appreciate it as I have.

We are lamenting about the weaknesses but doing so from the point of view of newbies? Has anyone mastered yet?

I still haven't be able to get in but from what I understand... some specials are weapon specific and some are not? So could a Swordsman use the specials in Brawler 1 handed with a scythe?

Likewise, could a TKA equip a 2-handed sword and perform TKA specials since they would be qualified to use the weapon? Would they get the damage from that sword?

Defenses don't stack but would a master Swordsman/TK get the best of the two?

Is there a delay to change weapons?

Could a master pikman/master swordsman use a lance to load an opponent with status mods and then swap to a scythe and commence with the butt whooping?

Or drop the lance if things go wrong and become untouchable with TK?

If a master Fencer/TK stuck with a novice brawler weapon, does that mean they could use both Fencer and TK moves at the same time?

Essentially, has what we have learned, "I'm a TKA, I use knucklers", "I'm a Swordsman, I use a power hammer or scythe" been turned into, "I'm qualified, I can use it with most of my abilities"

I have not been able to log in either however the documents released said most specials would be usable across all lines. So a Pistol special might be usable with a Carbine, or yes I believe a 1 handed sword move could be used with a 2-handed sword.

If anyone has had the chance to test this please let me know. And it may not work for all specials but on at least some.
