New EVENT! (Ideas, planning)
I'm on board.
Maybe we should introduce this event when CU comes out...
Might present an interesting style of everybody not knowing what to do.
Learning off eachother and such.
I might just be rambling.

Combat is more fun when people are still learning it. There is so much more adapting and counter-adapting that takes place. I think things will be very interesting and dynamic.
However, I think Whar should proceed. You never know when the CU will actually be here. Also, we don't need the CU to be here to get a head start on trying our Whar's gladiator sytem.. heretofore known as "WharCraft".

Here is just an idea for how to set up the match. First, I think this should, indeed, be a split Duel Tourney. Meaning... a Ranged Tourney and a Melee Tourney in one.
An example set up would be as follows:
Vreese, Jabe, Ekade, and Weyune sign up for the Melee as TKMs and MFs.
The way we would be ranked is whomever wins the most matches of dueling by tier run though. Ekade takes each of us on with unarmed, 1 hand, 2 hand, then a polearm weapon. Whomever ranks highest out of those matches is bumped up to your 'Duelest Master' spot.
Same with Ranged:
Four sign ups declare ranged and their Masteries (or near masteries)
They rank by doing the same as above... only ranged would only be doing Carbine, Rifle, and Pistol. A quicker tourney as it were.
In the event of a tie for top spot depending on how many sign up... an elimination round via going once more through the four/three fights to determine your winner.
Just a rough idea... and perhaps it would be nice to run this once before CU just to have some duelists set up and ready to be outranked as we begin the new system.
As you suggested Whar... no buffs, food, stat clothes and only the armor and weapons we buy/you provide for the match.
Now all we need to do is have a date and place and time... and for ya to get your materials together. ((clearly we all do have an interest in friendly competition... we just need to get it organized)) *grin*

I might be interested. But isn't this kind of what Dariis was already doing, with his Duel events, save for the issued weapons and clothes?
And I remember Jabe wanting to start something like this but I guess that died.

Actually Im wanting this to more reflect older combat, I dont know if ranged will be included, and the date is something Im working on. If one of the Admins (zannon, seret, ekade, jabe, etc...) have a good idea for the timeframe I would appreciate input.
This whole thing is hopefully going to appear and be present in our Social RP as well. I was thinking about having this event near a house with an outdoor balcony and setting up a lobby inside for drinks and gambling. Kinda like horse races or real bloodsports.
I have really designed this around melee combat, and was considering using the four main Melee styles, and tournement styling to define the winner. for TKM's or unarmed there will be no knucklers. I have one hand and two hand melee weapons already, and am going to make polearms...
Backstory: Whar has spent some time studying Rodian culture, and the blood sports, war dramas, and such. He has never been to Rodia, having been born in space. This competition is a mixture of his concept of the glory of individual combat/competition and his entreprenuership. He has studied some ancient and modern combat arts, and is putting together this competition to see it played out. His hopes are to see good competitors fight honorably, and fashionably (of course). He has started advertising the events around Lok and Tatooine. He is assuming that the competition will also become popular because of the bragging rights (that will be ) attained by the master duelist.
A tournament outline will soon be developed and posted.

well as admins, we really have no say as to when you should have an event, nor could we suggest a good time to do so...
my suggestion would be to do this...
edit this thread
you shouldn't have a signup for an event without a date/place/time
change this thread to reflect what would be the best time to run such an event...change the title and so on....if that's too much trouble, or is confusing for those still coming to the thread, we can erase this thread and start fresh again...explain what it is you are trying to accomplish and when would be the best to have it....
or the only other option is to just pick a time and a place and see how many can show, then go from there...

Just an offering...I think late evenings tend to be best for our group, and Fridays and Sundays are already taken by reoccurring events, so I would suggest a late evening time during the week or on Saturday. But Skarr's right, you should pick your own date--if the first one gets a low turn out, try a different day for the next one.

I say next saturday then.. this one is bad for me, and too soon. but next saturday, and if that is too soon it can be pushed back.
most of the events start late, but if theres no conflict the 8cst (9est??) may work... Im in EST time so I have no clue... I would be late for my own funeral.

Melee combat only idea = awesome.
Though it does not include everyone... Not everyone that could swing a weapon would be a gladiator anyway.
Though I do feel bad when people cant be included.
Watching and betting is always fun.

Dariis is on leave more or less until the CU.Weyune wrote:I might be interested. But isn't this kind of what Dariis was already doing, with his Duel events, save for the issued weapons and clothes?

Also, Whar is handing out weapons. Dariis let you use your own.. hence his pwnage of everyone with that uber pike.

hopefully unless theres some uber skillset that rules everything in spite of weapons, this will go over well.
