Never played EQ2. What inspired my idea was the way bards work in WotC version of D&D.
I don't know... I would rather avoid every profession having the obligatory combat skill to make them viable. Still, it's something. The inspirational buffs and this post came as a surprise even thought the picture is incomplete.

I would lean more for the attract, stun, or scare away specials cause it's not nessisarily "combat." You would be affecting how the battle for your group members went but you wouldnt throw a single punch nor deal any damage.

That's still to bardish for me. They are still combat specials. Whether they deal damage or not, they are still combat specials. I just don't think there is any need for them to have any type of combat specials.
SWG entertainer professions were all unique in the aspect that they were strictly a social class. They had to have some necessity with BF healing, but they were intended to be in cantinas, at the keyboard, and talking to the people that came by to heal up.
Then there was the hologrind and the reliance on mind and mind buff in combat which turned the emphasis on buffbots rather than social entertainers. If they turn entertainers into "mezzers" it will be going against the original design of the game, and one step closer to generic fantasy MMORPG
