Sad thing is I've seen this on Lok. I took a screenshot one time while waiting at the starport. Eleven people in the shot, five of them obviously Jedi.I guess you haven't been to Theed post-CU...It's like an all night rave. Lousy kids and their liquid dancing and glowsticks. All that's missing is the mouth guards.
Our RP vs. The Movie Arc.

Ok, so a 'huge' continuity problem 'is' Jedi and the believeability of the Galactic Civil War in our 'timeframe'.
I don't think at this point anything can be 'done' about it. But, what views can we take to 'believe' in what we're seeing 'and' still believe the movies?
Could it be that open Rebellion was so rampant that the Empire really 'was' struggling to make the populous believe it was in control. All be it through mind manipulation by Palpatine?
Could the Jedi we see be the ones finally returning after being in hiding for over thirty years? Luke, obviously, the chosen one to bring down Vader and Palpatine.
It is far fetched even by the story arc of the movie... but an obvious believeability we almost have to accept, or at least consider, when playing 'our' SWG.
As for the limitations of Jedi... there was a more dramatic feel to Obi-wan's attack in the Cantina when we thought he was one of the last Jedi. Glowstick rave party at Theed... well, that does kill the mood a little.

All kidding and suggestions aside, here's how I keep the feel of the SW universe while I play SWG:
If I'm doing things in character with other RPers, then that's my SWG cannon. Interaction with anyone outside of the RP community I just consider playing the game.
For example: If I'm out hunting to get XP with a group of people on Dantooine, then that's just me playing a SW themed game. If I'm in the casino acting in character, then that's really happening to my character. Pretty much anyone outside of the RP community I just consider bystanders. Jedi dueling in front of the starport = two diplomats discussing the state of the civil war. Guy in nothing but hot pants and a Stormtrooper helmet sitting in the cantina = Bounty Hunter that is observing a mark.
I really hadn't realized that I started ignoring anyone in the game that is not an RPer until just now and I also didn't realized that when I'm grinding or doing a good deal of the missions in game I consider it OOC and not part of my character. That's just my take. I use my imagination to make my experience more Star Warsy. It's all about attitude toward the game world around you. If you have a good attitude and adapt to your surroundings and the people you're with, then you're going to fill in the voids that need more of a Star Wars feel, either with your imagination or with your RP.

Except that the jedi sure as hell better still be hiding, because Vader and the Emperor are still alive in our timeframe, aren't they?

Their just lazy in our universe is all. ::grins:: Taking an unusually long rest break at the Naboo getaway resort and sending out 'Vader' droids to give speeches to all the good Imps of the galaxy.Krusshyk wrote:Except that the jedi sure as hell better still be hiding, because Vader and the Emperor are still alive in our timeframe, aren't they?

Yeah, I do the same. I referred to this as "filtering" when I was derailing that other thread with Rebecca.Zannon wrote: If I'm doing things in character with other RPers, then that's my SWG cannon. Interaction with anyone outside of the RP community I just consider playing the game.

Nah.. they changed their mind. They don't hunt Jedi anymore. They got sucked into Massively Multiplayer video games and spend most of their day reading and posting on the holonet.Krusshyk wrote:Except that the jedi sure as hell better still be hiding, because Vader and the Emperor are still alive in our timeframe, aren't they?

there are WAY too many overt jedi in the game...I see them in EVERY npc city I travel to 90% of the time...
Theed is ALWAYS the rave party as krussh said...
to curb it I think the penalty for getting killed by a BH should be a LOT higher...and the force heal thing they do should be nerfed...

Remember how it was supposed to work in Beta? If you got killed by BH's 5 times, your jedi character became a blue glowy and all you could do with it was teach other Jedi the skills you had when you died. That would be cool to do.
Maybe have it that having a blue glowy didn't count as your character on the server, just as an alt. Make it so that you could make a new character, but still keep the blue glowy to walk around and teach with...and only FS or Jedi characters could see you.....ahhh to dream.

This is me (and I'm fortunate that it's already been outlined, because I'm kinda tired now and didn't feel like typing it all).Zannon wrote:All kidding and suggestions aside, here's how I keep the feel of the SW universe while I play SWG:

But yes, my own imagination and willpower to ignore specific things help me enjoy SWG incalcuably.
1. Jedi outside of our RP community = Swordsman/Fencers/Pikemen of a highly elite level. IC Keer Tregga has never seen a Jedi. Some past dealings with Dillion Dai left Keer with the impression that he was a Human with some strange talents. Against the backdrop of an even stranger galaxy, Keer spends even less time thinking about it than Han Solo did.
2. I've always hoped that some Jedi other than Kenobi and Yoda survived Order 66, only for the sake of Vader being able to hunt them down one by one Highlander style. That would be a great story that I hope to see in media somewhen.
3. Outside of the above, for me Rebels are hit and run WW2-style Resistance fighters. In my RP, I try to keep SWG as close to post E4/pre E5 as possible.
I'd understand anyone that viewed things otherwise though. By the same grace if I dodge RP things aimed in the opposite direction it's not personal, rather playstyle.

"whot?11!!!111? i spnt all tht tim grindn my jedi n now i cnt play? that suxzorz!!!111!!!1 this game sux. u r stupd."
I think they should make a Vader and Palpatine character. Give them access and a lambda shuttle to land anywhere.
Then let the DEVs have access to them.
So instead of going out back and smashing cardboard boxes with a baseball bat, they can log on and vent directly at the source of their frustration.
Or maybe even put out a casting call and hire people to play Vader, Palpatine, Leia, Han, Luke, etc. Train them to be GMs/CSRs.
I don't think alot of players would look kindly at a obvious advantage to one side directly on the battlefield but an advantage outside the battlefield.
Something needs to be done that would make being on the side of the empire and staying on the side of the empire appealing to the average PVPer. Maybe high ranking Imperial officers are exempt from a tax that gets applied to every mission payout and every item sale?
The Rebellion can keep the "Cries of Alderan" 10% faction bonus. It's easier to gain recognization in a small orgnization when you do well.
The Imperials get a 10% kickback/reduction/tax break on the sale of items. When you are the law...

Are you f-ing serious? That was PART of the game?! THAT IS THE BEST IDEA EVER.Zannon wrote:Remember how it was supposed to work in Beta? More dead jedi ghosts, less slap asses with stupid names running around.
I am down...petition anyone?

Yeah, that idea and others just as gutsy and creative need to see more light. Though, as Isleh said, SOE would cave to the tantrums of their favorite kids.

You know, I never realized until you said something that this is exactly what I do. Sort of puts the game in a new(well, newly recognized) perspective for me.If I'm doing things in character with other RPers, then that's my SWG cannon. Yeah, that was part of the game. Back when they were only going to allow something like six Jedi per server tops. Are you f-ing serious? That was PART of the game?! THAT IS THE BEST IDEA EVER.

I still remember the day when the first person unlocked their FS slot. Now that was a day for celebration. Three months later, Jedi were all over the place.
