remember waaaaaaay back when an imp could have 3 atst's and attack every rebel and npc with them
then there wasn't a shortage of imps
Being an Imperial sure is fun...
Remember when they actually were worth more than something cool to watch explode?Skorixor wrote:remember waaaaaaay back when an imp could have 3 atst's and attack every rebel and npc with them
Anyrate, I agreed that 3 of those at once was too much. However, I miss my 3 STs. I liked patrolling restuss with an actual squad at my disposal rather than the one officer and his random storm trooper asking for identifcation and getting shot 5 seconds later.

Dont worry! Well get those pesky rebels (evil laugh inside shocktrooper helmet)
But im kinda used to this, but as a imperial oficer i try to be a genteman, if that dont work i let my weapon talk for me instead >:)

If they had done the game correctly we'd see 'no' Jedi and perhaps GMs playing Luke and the like wandering around only occassionally to get players envolved in plots; And, further adding to the GCW immersion we so much want. That's just in the larger scope of things.
I'm inclined to agree with every post here as well. It seems the only way we can capture the feel of Episodes 4-6 to me, from experience early on in gameplay upon other servers, is this; Controlled environments.
I don't mean to get long winded or repeat something I may have said in our RP guidelines discussion already but the quick story I'll relate is one from playing on Chilastra. There I am Imperial and a smuggler. I never joined a guild but I did get involved with an Imperial community. Note, not necessarily roleplayers; just Imperial overall. Their town was a fortress of houses and outposts. They regularly gathered and hung out at the cantina. The player base was large enough that there was almost always someone on and they regularly hung out in their town.
Now, more to the point, In this controlled environment they actually 'welcomed' Rebels to come play. If you wanted to be there in or out of character it was fine and they had only one rule... you start any crap; you were banned... period. More often than not; if this popped up in the form of pvp; they just ran the Rebels out of town.
To me, I'm ticked off how some of our roleplayers get treated. Personally, I love the character of Inquisitor Nyvveck! I hope we see more of you and less of the jar-head types.
Now, with the problem of something like Ruby Lake... Hey, that's their town and they are predominately Rebel 'with' Rebel banners in the public cantina. To me, I think this is a problem of wanting more OOC atmosphere in different areas of the game. It's hard to turn that switch on and off for some players I've noticed though. Myself encluded when I start wondering just what the heck I would be doing on Kashyyyk. *g* I had an interesting conversation with Nyvveck I tried to keep IC while we were questing there... for my part I said, "You know, I find myself asking just where The Goddess is here sometimes." Nyvveck remained very in character and I found myself enjoying it for the better because of it. Your RP makes it feel like it'd be a very bad idea to be found out as a Rebel and 'that' is RP success in my book.
For my part I'll just throw in that I think we have to work around most of our RP on a player by player basis; it's about all we can do in uncontrolled environments (Other player's cities and facilities, open ended environments like Mos Eisley where we have to also deal with players that aren't a part of the community... )
*cheers to Nyvveck* We need the Inquisitor very much! In fact, we need all of our Imperial players. *shrugs* I just happen to be one of the silent Rebels myself. I break all sorts of rules simply by RPing and having a Jedi template as well... I feel just as much in a paradox I've created for myself.

It seems like every good Imperial RP'er gets to this point eventually and it's just sad.
Part of the problem is that SOE not only didn't give the Empire an advantage in game mechanics but they gave them a disadvantage by throwing in the Faction Cost Penalty to non-human species.
Now when I was Imperial I loved that, because it was how I thought it should be. But looking back on this now they needed to do something to offset that, and that was being able to have 3 pets out.
Now 3 AT-ST's may have been over board but they should allow multiple pets. Perhaps use a CL limit so you could have 1 AT-ST, 1 Dark Trooper, and 1 ST. Or maybe 5 ST's based on difficulty ratings.
Rebel's on the other hand should only get 1 pet out at a time because heck they don't want to draw attention to themselves.
And I also wish they'd give AT-ST's some of their punch back, I remember being terrified of them once. Now it's no big deal. The cost to get one is out of balance with the usefulness of them because of how easily their now destroyed. Or at least let them get repaired.

Case #1 RPJabe Adaks wrote:The point is, you shouldn't do it. If someone gets in to a fight with an officer, the militia of the town should be like "Um, we will put this guy in jail. We are sorry sir." They should be aware that f---ing with the Empire is a bad thing. Walking up to an Imperial Officer and informing him he will be escorted out of town is no less dumb than saying "Hey we are all Rebels here, don't come back."
The point is the Imperials can't play there part because the Rebels won't play theirs. The Imperials should have a hard time identifying Rebels from commoners, which would make fights more scarce than they already are. The Rebels should be acting like law abiding citizens and avoiding confrontation.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm agreeing with you and said much of the same thing if you read the rest of my post. Correct me if I'm wrong but TTF is looking for Reb PvP + RPers. They are going to be rare because of this.
One of the things that bothers me is I attacked Alonzo at S&V because I felt my character would feel it was a dire enough situation... Should I show up at the Roba now? No. If Nyvveck shows up at Club Midnight, I should leave. If a squad of storm troopers show up at Ruby Lake, I should leave... etc. etc. etc.. Because if I don't, then they are forced to suddenly get very poor vision and have memory problems.
I mean, I guess I could go find a spin group somewhere on casino nights and other events. Not that I want to. So I go, they have a memory lapse, and we create a a huge plot hole that anyone one of us would laugh at if we were watching this as a movie.

We would miss you but what else could make people afraid to piss off a Imp. More pets? All that would do is make Imperials more of a target for PvPers and you'd still get the miss tretment from coverts and nutrals. More pets wouldn't really change a thing. My cop analagy is on target. Without any authority the imps are a joke and they will remain a joke.Skorixor wrote:dude in game jails have been brought up many many times, and they always get shot down...too much griefing and too much player loss from bullshit like that

The Loop and Punishment Theory:
With the Loop we get forced into reoccouring RP that forces us not to be somewhere. I did this 'here' and can't be at 'x' event because 'this' person is there. In that affect we can, and do, paint outselves into corners in RP every arc we play out. Because we spend or spent so much time on our characters most of us are 'not' going to delete all of our work for the sake of consistant 'my character died' story arcs. So, in some cases, yes, we're forced to turn on those eye blinders to have things 'go back to normal' to start the cycle again in the MMO environment.
In regards to Punishment... No one in their right mind is going to keep paying for a game where some random person can go 'your a rebel' you get to wait 10 minutes before you can do anything.... just to have this happen multiple times in an evening.
Balancing is the problem. They tried to set the game in a time period when The Empire was in control but in game mechanics it was necessary to make the overall feel that 'no one' had the upper hand. I can see why they did it; So that nither side would have an advantage and the 'players' could decide what happened next. This is where they bungled though because they keep contridicting themselves with the following statement:
"The game takes place between E4-6 but this isn't cannon Star Wars!"
Then it 'doesn't' take place between E4-6, Devs! Just say so!

Regarding my previous posts, it boils down to that I'm breaking character to RP with Nyvveck and TTF so I really don't want to see them go.
My goal here is not to bash Alonzo or TTF. I have stood up for TTF when people were misunderstanding them. I will try do the same for anyone here but it's not going to stop it from happening on occasion maybe from myself (I try not to, but I'm not perfect) and members within and outside the RP community. It's just one of those things. We can try to mitigate it but it's going to happen.
With all that in mind, I would like to propose the following
Support your community - If you see a situation that may be getting out of hand, don't be afraid to step in. Step in with an open and objective mind though.
Ask for help outside your guild if you can - The different guild tag lends to credibility that the person you've called for help has an open and objective mind rather than just someone supporting their guild.

your cop analogy is way off target...because in the fake environment of a video game, you cannot have authority over people, especially if that authority is given out by in-game players...all it leads to is griefing...even if devs walked around, giving out "punishements" people wouldn't put up with it for long...Jerrel wrote:We would miss you but what else could make people afraid to piss off a Imp. And now we can see the endless cyclical debate...
People get frustrated when others don't adhere to "common sense" rules.
At the same time people don't want to impement and live with a sytem of RP rules that require people to adhere to a certain standard (like RP'ing as if they are in a Galaxy Controlled by an Empire).
We can't have it both ways.
Across the board, rebel RP is geneally poor. To RP a good rebel sympatizer is to RP as a good little Imperial citizen 90% of the time.
What is the solution?
Well, I always have tons of ideas. If we want to play RPvP, maybe we do need a little stucture around how we play.
Let's say for example Templ and TTF are engaged in a storyarc. The jist of it is that they are both after an object. Ekade wants it because it is a religious artifact of some significance. The Viceroy wants it because it is believed to be connected to the force and he wants to up his standing with the Emperor. The trick is that Ekade AND Alonzo each have one piece of information that is needed to locate the item.
Soooo.. the game becomes this.. which side can capture the other's leader and obtiain the location of the object?
What we have created is a storyarc/PvP game all at the same time. We can have fun with felloe RP'ers, and interested and goal-driven PvP challenges at the same time. Maybe we choose a few nights that are "game on".
That's just one idea. I am not against trying to RP in a "mixed crowd". I feel it is always important to evangelize RP. However, don't keep your expectations too high when it comes to RP and the general public. There are too many heroes and too many people that don't share the same view on the state of the galaxy.

I saw one in the SOE RP Forums long ago. I actually thought it would work because it was voluntary and the captured player could "opt-out" at anytime in the process. But then it would fail to be a deterrent for what is suggested here.Skorixor wrote:your cop analogy is way off target...because in the fake environment of a video game, you cannot have authority over people, especially if that authority is given out by in-game players...all it leads to is griefing...even if devs walked around, giving out "punishements" people wouldn't put up with it for long...Jerrel wrote:We would miss you but what else could make people afraid to piss off a Imp. Regardless, if players can find a way to grief by offering rides on speeders, you can bet they will find a way to grief with a capture system.

I feel as if I should interject here because this seems directed mostly towards a matter that occured in Ruby Lake on Friday evening.
**Disclaimer: I was DJing and need to keep up with about 4 different forms of chat while doing it, so I do not have the whole story. I will try to give my take without using too much hearsay**
I originally set up the Friday night event for lighthearted fun RP without much drama. There wasn't a ruleset put in place because I didn't want people to feel limited or have to enforce certain rules. That of course isn't easy to monitor and keep in line, nor do i want to discourage people from reacting to certain situations because of this. So I wanted to keep it open ended. That is the basic idea for the event...
If you do not live in Ruby Lake, or don't read the CvC Holonet, you would have no idea about the recent events in our city. I don't expect non residents to know this information either. The fact that Ruby Lake is mostly inhabited by Rebels is strictly OOC information, nobody should know that, that isn't associated with Ruby Lake or the officials there. We do not have any rebel banners in the cantina either. With that said, the residents of Ruby Lake cannot forget recent events and have to roleplay with those events in their minds. We have had random acts of terrorism in the town and the Ruby Lake Police Dept has been very vigilant in seeking out prospective offenders. When a bar fight between an unidentified man, and an obvious Rebel broke out the RLPD stepped in and wanted to question both parties. The unidentified man would not provide identification (we did not know he was Imperial) and he was brought to the police station and questioned he was given two options. Stay and not cause trouble, or leave. He made a third option and threatened to kill the Sheriff and everyone who works for him. Naturally, he was then told to leave the town. He requested that he be escorted out, and he was. After that, I do not have much more information. I know the unidentified man came back with some stormtroopers. Thats all the info I have in regards to that.
I just wanted to give a bit of perspective, because I don't want Ruby Lake to be misrepresented in this thread. If there were Rebels spitting and acting immature towards an "Imperial Inquisitor" they were not part of RC, RLR, or Ruby Lake. I apologize if it wasn't fun for people on Friday. My plan is to make it as fun as possible. We have the radio station, so we have tunes for people to dance to, and yes we encourage RP and don't want to have people get upset over events that happen there. If someone was not happy with the way individuals that are a part of RC, RLR, or a citizen of Ruby Lake, those inquiries may be sent to me via PM, in game email, or tell in game.
I know there has been a lot of discussion about a single set of RP rules and guidelines, but another thing to take into account is everyone has their own stories going on independent of the big events. Most of you folks here have no idea about what has been going on in Ruby Lake, and we for the most part don't know what has been going on with all of you. This is something that is just unavoidable. We couldn't possibly consume all the information going on in all these stories. This, I feel is a major issue when we all get together, so perhaps some more OOC tells explaining the situations might work? I am not suggesting anything, just want to bring that up. RLPD, and others in Ruby Lake have been quite on edge lately with the events in our city. If any of you are interested in finding out more, I will gladly post some of the info here on swgtales.com or post links to the CvC site.
One last thing, I know there was a big call for an RP Rebel guild. Well there is one in Ruby Lake now.

I would just like to point out that I did make it very clear who I was at Ruby Lake, even going show far to show my Inquisitor's ID.
I informed those that took me to the police station many times that I was an Imperial officer. I stepped out of character and did not punish the man that I fought in any way, other than incapping him. I was looking forward to getting back to the party. However, by this time I was quite put off that the Ruby Lake Police Department didn't seem to acknowledge in any way the the Empire even existed, and I acted as such, reminding them of the Emperor's power (Thus my comment of kill them). So, I was told I was banned from the city, and was escorted out.
I later asked if I was truely banned from the city, and was told that if I were to go back, I would be treated as a fugitive. Well...a rather high ranking Imperial officer will not be treated like a fugitive. So, I came back to the city with some stormtroopers to inspect the cantina, and let the recidents know that the Empire does indeed exist...it's not a simple fairy tale. Well, then I was truely banned, and was told something along the lines of "Don't use RP to push your OOC agenda!"...I didn't even know I had an OOC agenda, I was simply doing what my character would do. Personally, OOC I was not put off that I had been escorted out of town, I had acted the part of the arrogant Imperial officer and had been treated as such. When I was truely banned from the event, however, I began to get angry and decided that I would leave.
Now, I want to make it clear that the events that happened at Ruby Lake were not the only things that made me want to leave. Being banned from Ruby Lake for RPing an Imperial simply was a nail in the coffin.
Generally, it was the common RPer that made me want to bow out of RP. Kirt was telling me of someone who sent him a /tell "Okey, you showed how cool you are, you can leave now." If people think I am petty enough to go to these events to satisfy my ego, I simply will not go. The very few people that actually get enjoyment out of Imperial RP is not worth the HUGE majority that feel that I am a griefer.
And if I were to simply ignore those that thought I was a griefer, I would have one, maybe two other people at any given event to talk to.
And frankly, I never go to an event looking for a fight. However, because of the role I choose to play, I am not likely to give a rebel a slap on the hands and let him go.
