Also, a mez is different from a root because in a mez, you cannot attack. A root, you can.

And I was trying to directly attack Kirt's bike. I don't have any area attacks.

Concussion Shot, the smuggler skill, is a mez.
Ok, so 'rooting' is what we're talking about. :)

Not quite, think more like panic shot, stasis, paralyze.

Moves that stop you from doing anything: healing, combat, etc. Some mezzes have a root tied in (concussion/stasis/paralyze), others do not (panic shot).

Next time you're grouped, toss a few C12s at Kirt's BARC and see what happens

I believe mezzing was around in UO, which is one of the oldest MMO's (older than EQ) and it was used a lot in DAOC (dark age of camelot) when I played. So if there is a stun, or mesmerize, it makes sense to call it mezz.

There was a form of mezzing bards could do in UO, but not in the same wa mezzes are now....it was a pure pve mez....and was...well...not predictable...granted i quit the game shortly after they started babying it (cut pvp, cut stealing, etc etc) so it may have improved...

btw, for reference, my MMO greatness line is like this:

UO>SWG>WoW>DAoC>FFXI>Redmoon>MxO>RO>EQ

on the war thing, when i did a guild war a long time ago i used grouping the enemy to show captivity, since they could no longer attack me, I am safe and so are they, and if they disband (trying to escape) i can attack them, but they could also /disband;/kd;/burst for a get away :)
