Thanks for the reply Jabe. My comment and sarcasm wasn't geared toward the new user specifically. I understand things happen and you get to it when it is pointed out and you can get to it.
No legalese is really necessary, however the few rules they are should be adhered to somewhat. It isn't really fair to expect the general community to abide by the rules when those in positions of power walk all over the rules.
Just a few examples:
Keep the Forums on Topic
We tried to set up forums that cover broad enough categories for whatever topics you might have. When in doubt, go to the "About this Forum" and ask.
I fail to see in either the locked post or this one where this was kept on topic. This very post could have been responded to simply with a "Noted" since I was sincere in my request for a clause or disclaimer lol.
Post in Good Taste
Posting in any forum should really have no need for explicit or graphic comments, this included linking to or displaying such material. Posts that center around explicit sexual content or violence don't generally have a place at SWGTales. Comments or posts of this nature will be subject to the moderation policies set forth in this document.
Yes this can be left to interpretation, but with all the intelligent, creative people that exist here it doesn't seem there should a need for bad language.
When deemed necessary, moderators will...
1) Lock and/or move the offending thread or message if the they think it's completely inappropriate.
2) Private message the user, tell them what has happened and why. Notify the admins to inform them of the problem.
3) If the user(s) is still getting out of hand, and the offending user(s) do not respond to the private messages, or do not stop the offending behavior, repeat step 1 and step 2.
4) If the user(s) persist, the admins will get involved. If necessary, we will remove posting privileges if we have to. This is a last resort however. It really shouldn't get to that point (we hope).
Nowhere in #1 does it state "Lock and continue spamming off topic posts"
#2 never happened, but can't blame em. What are they going to say? "Um sorry but we had to lock your post because the mods went nuts."
I'm not going to press the issue further here, but I wanted you to know where I was coming from so you knew it wasn't the "new user" I was referring to in your quote.
Cheers
Yay my first locked topic (edit: second /rofl)
Hey, we're hypocrites, way to wake up and take notice, dude.
Thanks for the tip.
I don't know what battle you're trying to win here. We will most likely NOT be changing any rules based on this discussion.

Oh and the thread wasn't locked because of your post. I very clearly stated that the post had gone off topic and I was locking it.

I am well aware that this forum is not a utopian environment and I am sorry you find that disagreeable. If you consider that we're debating this in a thread you started over a thread that was locked (hence trolling), you have invalidated most of your credibility in this matter.
Secondly, the mods here get a lot of crap (yep I said crap). Our private inboxes are a complaint line for a good percentage of the hundreds of users that participate here. Its a job we do for free, its fun but also frustrating and jarring on a person's patience over time. As a result we are not perfect people either and make rule-infringing decisions sometimes simply out of frustration.
At times we poke fun at ourseleves and our own system by posting in a locked thread or dropping one last joke before moving on. It happens and I am not going to make an effort to apologize for it.
If there are to be any changes to the rules it would be to remove them completely and mod without any guidelines. I don't have enough time in my life to be too concerned over a gaming forum that I help run in what littel spare time I do have. Instead of taking flack for rules that aren't interpreted like the consitiution I'd rather remove them and go the dictatorship route.
In other words fairness is a priviledge we try to deliver as best as we can. It is NOT a right. The day that a user gains absolute rights that we must answer to is the same day those who run this forum will cease to have the time to do so.

I usually opt for the thread delete... I'm working on my ninja post percentage, and not having much success.

From your prior thread:
Is it perfect? No.
Is it a fun place to go? Yes.
Should this have been a PM? Yes.
Do I care that you're now going to run around saying that an admin here flamed you? No.
And you want to know why? Because I'm not going to sit here and let someone come into my house and shit on me and my friends.
I'll tell ya what hoss. You set up a message board to run and be perfect in your administration of that board while working 50+ hour weeks at high paying, high stress jobs and then come back here to tell us how to run ours. I think we do pretty damn well here and we have done very well for a long time.Shensen wrote:Speaking as someone relatively new around these parts, there seem to be a zillion moderators, some of which I have watched post comments just as off color (so I reserve the right to not be impressed by the choice of moderators or their inability to follow their own forum rules) and come by this very post without a word
