Is Civilization Older Than We Think?
Does this mean we all could be related to hobbits, elsves, dwarfs, and such?

Not unless the DNA evidence shows that they are related to the bushmen of the Kalahari, Oniss. /grin There is discussion that the Fir Bolg of Ireland (hairy giants) may have been real. I'd rather be related to Silkies, myself.
By the way, the new carbon dating gets a boost when the dendrology record and the Greenland ice cores confirm the dating. Of course, tree rings have only taken us back about 15k years, continuously..so far, but the ice cores take us back into the last Ice Age quite a ways. The new carbon dating, which uses a different isotope, appears to be more reliable than the old method. Also, carbon dating relies on carbon isotopes, therefore the only "rocks" that can be carbon dated have to have residue from things that were once alive.

Well, actually, Snado, there is a whole subsection of Paleontology that deals with fossilized bathroom breaks, LOL. But, anything that once lived can be used...ashes from a fire, leaves, bog people, peat, and of course fozzilized anything...because the carbon isotopes from the replaced flesh/wood/bones/teeth, etc don't disappear with the rotted material, it is still there in the rock.
I don't know if they have found DNA from the dinosaurs, but they were looking for it ... the last time I checked on the subject. Frankly, that was a /boggle for me. The DNA evidence has answered one question, tho...Cro-Magnon (modern human) did NOT cross breed with the Neanderthal
