you have a point there Jabe... but we will probably always find ourselves yearning for something more... our game.

Maybe I can talk to some companies, and see if anyone is willing to allow a project based on their engine...

I wouldnt want to start throwing actual plans out, because anyone with google will be able to see them. But it would be awesome just to see what's available to us.
To be honest, there's tons of engines out there for you. You don't need to talk to companies.

Your best bet at this point is to mod a free engine, such as the Quake2 or 3 engine (I think both are freeware at this point). But be warned: Even just a graphical overhaul is a major task. Trying to re-design an engine from the ground up takes more know-how than I have, that's for sure.

We've got teams of 60 people working on games now, and EA has like 100-200 at times on any given project.

I'm not trying to dissuade you; I love passion. I used to have some myself. But honestly, the days of garage games are long behind us. It would take a truly insane visionary to be able to take any existing technology and do anything more than a mod with it these days.

Okay... you haven't interacted with me that much in game... but what in our experience together really makes you doubt that I fit this description.

When I say I want to make something.... usually I have every intention of following through.

I have allready mapped out a unique universe and some of it's backstory. Which was the easy part. I have ideas for a unique economy, and character structure. This idea gives a uniqueness and customizeability (word?) that doesn't yet exist. <--- I mean it goes beyond clothes and skin.

Player races? already covered.

Economy? mostly mapped out.

Engine? not my strong suit... but I am a quick learner. How big can maps be made with the quake engine?

What would be even more awesome...... SOURCE ENGINE MMO!!!!! (steam) (from a hardware standpoint that would be almost impossible right now though.)

I could work up some quick 3D models if I still had milkshape or something, but I am still working up things in my head and on paper.

Understand that details wont be made public until we establish some kind of rights.

I was wondering if someone like Mythic might be interested in taking a small project under their wing, maybe as an experiment. But affiliation to a large company would be touchy. Mythic would be ideal though looking at their track record.

Hey, I'm making two games right now. Don't drag me into another one.

I'd like to make a point of saying that I think it's great to make your own games and stuff...and make your own large projects, build off things that other people have started (Hey, Tales!). I started a writing RP based on an original world I made several years ago that ran for a (very) short while.

I would just remember that if the population grows, things change. I feel kinda bad for seeming negative about the idea flat out because we all get the ideas for big and grand projects all the time. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Just kinda depends on what it is and who we have with us. :)

I volunteer myself for the sexual intercourse motion captures. I will need a hot model to work with though.

So what you're saying is Jabe's giving and you're receiving this holiday season?

Eh, Think we could talk to LA about using the Jedi acadamy kinda stuff? You know, insaine jumps for jedi, running along walls, Combo attacks. That kinda stuff, Make a MMO like SWG out of that. I personaly think that something like that mixed with what all you all are saying mixed togethere, That would make a crazy good game in my opinion.

The concept I have developed so far has nothing to do with SW.

I am hoping that people are willing to embrace a SciFi idea that is not SW or ST... although for some they may want to RP themselves into Lucas' universe... but why not carve out your own niche in a place where there is No Boba Fett or Luke Skywalker, and YOU become the legend. Where YOU can change the sway of the universe.

I hate to say it, but I think that's what SWG has been trying to do and may even be continuing to do. I would say that here at SWGT we've done a good job of helping ourselves do that as well.
