My Latest SWG Video is done!

Thanks for your kind words

I got the idea for the video on one of my long drives that I do every week, and then it sprang into the 2 part video you saw today.

/Begin Flashback
All this originally started after CU2. The division between alpha jedi characters, and regular lvl 80 characters really began to piss me off. I had been playing the game since beta, but because of my shedule, I could not find the time to grind out a jedi, to therefore enjoy high end content. At least before, I could go get buffs, and then tackle high end stuff.

So the game became a bore of the "same ole, same ole."
Logon.

Ask, "what's going on?"

"We're going to Dantooine to hunt pikets again"

"ugh"

logoff.
So I played less and less. Then the dropped the bomb with the NGE. I was actually looking forward to it. I have been playing FPS games since the invention of them, and leveling the playing field intrigued me. When I tried the latest incarnation of SWG, it was a horrible horrible letdown. It is nowhere near a FPS, and a lot of the RP aspect had been stripped. It became a chore just to move around, much less fight, much much less to enjoy the awkwardness of the game.

So I messed around with it some more. I still had some movie ideas I wanted to finish before I had to resubscribe next year, so I went in and attempted to take some shots.

What I found was that even if you strl-shft-H to remove the HUD, it still doesn't remove your target reticle or arrow pointer. How in the hell are you supposed to take moving footage with crap still left on screen??

It was the last straw. I cancelled both my accounts right then.

/Back to Present day

I kept thinking back to the good times I had, and found my screenshots from all the way back from Day 1. It was fun seeing my chars and others progress along a still-frame timeline, from one screenshot to the next. Changing and maturing into what they've become today.

Then I bought the latest Green Day live CD "Bullet in a Bible" and heard that song again, "Time of your Life" and the lyrics in the song hit me like a sledgehammer.
So take the photographs and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth it was worth all the while

It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life
The song I heard, combined with the screenshots I had recently viewed, made the vision complete. I needed to make this into a video, celebrating the good times we as a community have had, and bring closure to this experience to myself.

So I was collecting the screenshots, and arranging the video, and I started to make the credits, and decided that everyone needed to be thanked, so I sorted through everyone's names from the memberlist here at swgtales. And I also took my parting shot at SOE cuz I got pissed that this was the finale.

Soooo, for what it's worth, it was worth all the while. I will always remember the good times we had in game.

this is actually about the third slideshow I have seen with that as the soundtrack... that song busted them into mainstream, beyond just punk rockers.

LOL, That's exactly what I thought.

Absolutely amazing video. You did something I see so few fraps/slideshow movies do, which is synch images to the soundtrack. It sounds so simple (especially to this film student) yet it is so rarely done.

If I ever have to watch another PvP video with "Let the bodies hit the floor" that does not have a significant moment on screen at the point where the whisper changes to a scream in the song, somebody's gonna getta hurt!

There are a few times on this forum when I've mentioned that Star Wars art by Ralph McQuarrie, for some mysterious reason, makes me deeply feel the magic of Star Wars. For a short time my imagination is really swept away.

After watching this video, letting it sink in for a few minutes, this is the first time that I've had that feeling without looking at a McQuarrie painting or watching Eps 4 or 5.

Good show, Skor/Skarr.

Prediction: This game WILL one day reincarnate in a form that we imagined it would be. It will deliver.

I only hope then that I'll have the spare time to enjoy it. Until then, I've got this video to look back on.

I was never what you would call a fan of that song, but DAMN if I won't think of this community every time I hear it.

Loved it, man. The credits made me laugh :)

And thanks for throwing in a pic of X'an. It's been awhile since I played, but I miss those early days.

that was awesome man. I won't lie i teared up. I miss my days rolling with Dariis and my tka rp storyline i was doing with him. If i could do it all over again id have said screw jedi and continued that story line :( . Makes me long for the old days when i was geek speaking and for some reason dariis starts rping and sparks my interests. Id give anything to live those days again . I just would give anything for classic servers i dunno what to do now but I will never forget the great experiences i had in rp and in this community. I know near the end i kind of ran off and did my own thing but this community made this game great for such a long time for me . And that video just brought tears to my eyes because i know ill never have those experiences again sadly :(
