Dude, the lightbulbs thing was a joke. If you seriously think I feel like that, after siding with every issue you've brought up, you're wound too tight. I can understand why, though. I would be too if I were having to buy my own ammo just to qualify. I'll make sure all jokes have smilies from here on out.
As far as it being on subject, I believe the lightbulb issue was at the core of the mother's concern. "They call them the "slums". The barracks he is in does not even have any lighting. I had to get him back to the barracks before dark in order that he would have light enough to do the things he needed to do before bed."
See? On topic AND joking ;)
The Stupid Sh*t Thread
You can't be "siding with me" if you call this a "win-win". That's what you're not seeing. And no I don't think that you do "understand why". If so then your response to this would be different.
If that was a joke it was in serious bad taste, considering life and death are on the line not to mention national security.
You said it yourself, the same reason that you wouldn't want "some young scrub cutting you open" should be the same reason you wouldn't wan't someone on the trigger who joined up or re-enlisted for their complimentary tummy tuck.
As far as me, I'm "wound" just fine and I joke as much as anybody. No need to accomodate me on the "smileys", either. My first take on your whole post was "he must be joking". I'll just assume that from here on out.
As far as dodging issues, Arifo put forth pretty detailed reasons in addition to my own as to why this was a cuckoo idea and far from a "win-win". "Show me the winny" in regards to her info.
Either way, I'm done.

The thing is that you're taking this in an entirely personal fashion, when it wasn't even meant that way, man. I try and diffuse the situation and I only succeed in making you more embroiled it seems.Keer wrote:You can't be "siding with me" if you call this a "win-win". That's what you're not seeing. My "win-win" was that the military considers it a win-win on their two points as to why they're arguing for this concept. Can't I re-iterate the military's reasons for this that weren't in the original article and not have someone take it as my personal position on the matter?
Every chance you get here you're trying to make this a you vs. me issue on this, either because I'm not actually in the military (as you pointed out earlier), or because you have a misconception as to my interests in said military. Obviously being in the military has no bearing on this decision, as it's one that the military brass made.
The fact of the matter is that I back you on this issue entirely, I back all of your ancillary issues that you brought up, and I don't support the idea that this is a good way of going about things.
If you want to keep insisting otherwise, that's fine. Just realize that I'm on your side here, whether you feel like it or not.

Hey!
You too!
You're buddies, smugglers cut from the same cloth.
Agree to disagree and give each other a hug or I'm gonna personally send you both pics of Dooo and Gaaralow naked disguised as exclusive JtL pics.
Seriously, I respect the fact that your both having an intelligent arguement and not some retarded flame war but your both getting a little too heated so I suggest you both take a step back and let it go. You're going no where but down.
Now shake hands or deal with 8 gigs of Mon Cal ass pics appearing on your hard drive.

With or without those last few words it looks like a personal position to me. *shrug*X'an Shin wrote:
In the end, not having to pay people to be guinnea pigs is a much, much more cost effective appropriation of funds to train surgeons and not have them lose lives due to inexperience than spending that money on lightbulbs for soldiers who should probably be sleeping when it's dark anyways.
I say that it's not "much, much more cost effective" and not "saving lives".......to whomever said that it was.

Sorry if my post came off as a flame. I was just trying to give my opinion on the situation.X'an Shin wrote:Hey, military guys, go back and re-read my post before you flame me.
Personally you are entitled to your opinion as much as anyone else. But don't try to make sense of why the military does certain things. Look at the beret ordeal for the Army. One man makes a decision that caused, arguably, one of the biggest fights amongst troops in history. I mean I never saw so many people BLATANTLY disobey orders. It took forever to get everyone to wear those POS hats. And I say that because they don't keep sun or rain out of your eyes, they are hot in the summer, and they look like shit on almost every female, and most males, that wear them. But that is another topic for another day.
Oh and I may have been a little to vague. We don't buy our own ammo, they just issue us adapters for our weapons and .22 rounds to fire out of them to save money. What it does in turn is not give us the proper feel for how the weapons operate. I will agree about buying my own equipment. I have purchased 90% of the gear I use b/c the stuff I was issued I considered trash. It is fully "functional" but when the bullets are flying I feel more comfortable with my stuff.

And then there's the guys like my Ranger buddy who are downright pissed that everyone and their Moms now get to wear the hats that the Rangers previously had to work a bit harder to get. I had no idea that the G.I. population didn't even want to wear them in the first place. Sounds like another decision which pleases no one. /sigh.ArifoObi wrote:Sorry if my post came off as a flame. Sorry, I thought you were referring to having to buy your own ammo in the field and to qualify. A different buddy of mine has a brother presently in Iraq who had to buy his own 9mm ammo for his pistol, both to qualify I think and for field use. They were going to ship him to Iraq without ammo, and there wasn't any requisitioned for him when he got there. Granted, he's a hospital nurse (I think), and god forbid he should be in a situation where he's going to need to use it, but I wouldn't want my pistol running on empty either if I was there.ArifoObi wrote:Oh and I may have been a little to vague.
