What won me was X-Men #129 (original from the '70s) in the basement of the Hellfire Club. Logan, dolo-challenge-any-team-or-solo wades into a swarm of Mercenaries. Character defining moment and a classic in X-Men lore.
/Total comic geek mode on
ACTUALLY...X-Men 129 is when Professor X came back to Earth and started riding Cyclops about being a bad leader...then split the team to check out two new mutants that cerebro picked up (Dazzler and Kitty Pride). The issue you're thinking about was X-Men 133...and they were from 1980.

You may now gow about your business...nothing to see here.
Roger roger. Thanks Zann *shame*. But 4 issues off ain't bad for an on the spot recollection and not having read them in over 20 years. Wolverine's asswhoopapalooza is unforgettable though.

You want to know what's worse than that? My sister was an avid comic book collector when I was younger. She got out of it when she went to college and was broke.
Her comic collection, of course, was still at home. I took two issues that I thought were cool to school. We read them, passed them around, etc. They both got torn up pretty bad and rather than take back the rattled comics, I gave them away.
Years later, I realized what they were.
Spiderman #299 (first appearance of Venom)
Spiderman #300 (with venom on the cover and 300's everywhere)

I have one even worse though...When my great grandmother passed away when I was 13 my grandmom went to help divy up the estate. While she was there she found a box of old comics her brother who's passed away had and figgured she'd bring it home to give me so she set it out side on the porch and went back in to get a few other things. While inside she heard a car pulling away and when she looked out the door she saw the garbage men pulling away from the house. Thinking nothing of it she went back to work. An hour latter when she went to go pack the things she set aside in her car she noticed the box was gone and figgured the garbage men took it.
With in this box was some of the following.
Amazing Fantasy #15
Action Comics #1,2,5
Detective Comics#1
Fantastic Four#12
