Another good thing to do is to not fire link your guns. I've got 2 guns that give 9k damage combined and have 33 energy/shot. Now I have a big cap that does 48 and has 1300 energy, but those guns together drain it at a fast rate...so what I've done is to configure em to fire indipendantly then together when the target has been softened. Bad thing about the Rix is that its pattern of fire is so small...but its also extremely good cause the accuracy of your shots are fairly flawless.Dwilah wrote:My one blaster has stats as follows...
928.8-1690.4 damage

Energy/Shot 20.8
Refire .350
What I requested from Zannon was a gun that took up less energy per shot.

From an Imperial point of view, A-Wings are a major pain in the ass to take out.Ekade wrote:I love the concept of the a-wing, but what scares me is that it does not seem to be significantly better at avoiding fire than any other ship. Yeah, I would think a narrow pattern of fire would be better. In my x-wing I can be dead on and still miss as my shots have the potential of being wider than the target on all sides.Novall wrote:Another good thing to do is to not fire link your guns. I seem to be okay at it with NPCs as long as they don't have turrets. With players I think it depends on who you're facing.Ekade wrote:I love the concept of the a-wing, but what scares me is that it does not seem to be significantly better at avoiding fire than any other ship. By the way...I believe there is a way to set the convergence (the distance from your ship that your shots meet in front of you). Setting this to something that fits your dogfighting style should fix some of your missing problems.Ekade wrote:Yeah, I would think a narrow pattern of fire would be better. I have to say that Dwilah is probably the best pilot I've even seen fly. Our duel was great and she kept me totally on my toes. We fought in one of the asteroid fields in Lok...which was really to both our advangates. For her because its harder for me to navigate those rocks in my Rix. Me because I wrote the book on asteroid field PvP when kessel was still PvP
In the end Dwilah got 3 good hits on me before my guns landed a mortal blow. I just wanna say thanks to her for being an excellent combatant and in my book...a true master pilot
You can be my wingman anytime Dwilah

Tell us the details about the fights. How did it play out? What worked, what didn't? Observations, what did you learn? What droid commands/specials did you use?

No commands or specials. Thats for kiddies. She was flying a fast awing, I was in a bumbling rhyx heavy. We were fighting in a asteroid field, no missles ect.Ekade wrote:Tell us the details about the fights. How did it play out? What worked, what didn't? Observations, what did you learn? My observations with quick craft is this...fly towards then, then around 300 out you turn right and boost, cut your engines to half and quick turn into em. I call it the "talon" manuver. It's always caught 99% of people off guard at the start. Next thing is use asteroids as cover. Dont be afraid to bounce off em as long as your nose is angled towards space and not into rock. Dwilah was doing this and it was really causing me some trouble. Next thing is dont attempt to "out turn" your opponent. Most of the time you wont. The key is to keep your nose ahead of theirs and make them fly into your shots.
Use some decoy shots to manuver em into prime position for the kill. I also like to stagger my shots, which is why I have 2 triggers for my guns. I try to squeeze off a 1.2 shot infrot of em which usually leaves one hitting and one distracting. The distraction gives you enough time to squeeze off 2 at once which either disables or destroyes (depending on your damage). I hit Dwilah with a direct hit using both guns and literally took her from 100% to around 40% chassis and 50% shields.

Yes, I was curious to know if combat was a 1 shot ordeal with those 4000+ guns of yours. It sounds like it is.
We can debate realism versus fun some other time.. but on the side of fun it would be nice if it took more than 1 hit to cripple (or be crippled by) your enemy. But i guess the manuvering and stuff can be pretty fun. My only PVP experienve is with Jabe and some dude in Kessel that I ran away from because I was already beat up by the vette and smouldering.

it can be more then 1 shot, but it's all based on your equipment and your ability. Its actually alot more real then you would think. An awing's 55k mass shoudn't be able to hold the heaviest guns around. That thing is made for neck-break speeds, quick turns, and getting behind someone for ass chewing. My heavy is a whoppin 190k mass, and can easly hold duel lvl 10 guns, however even with a 110 seed engine I cant break 1k max speed. My turning is also about 60% less then Dwilah's awing, but I also carry 1.8k shields and 1.2k armor front and back.Ekade wrote:Yes, I was curious to know if combat was a 1 shot ordeal with those 4000+ guns of yours. The difference between fighting joe-blow in a heavy and me in a heavy is that I am actually one of the few people who've experience PvP in space in my ship on a regualr basis. I've developed my own tactics that I still have stored away in the hopes kessel will become PvP enabled again one day. And as far as I know i'm one of the few who's kills in a big ship equal 8 more then my total deaths (18/10). I learned long ago what not to do in space, and flying towards your enemy full speed is probably the biggest error everyone makes.
A true "Ace" pilot is gonna know what the enemy is capable of depending on the ship their flying. There gonna know if they need to concentrate on offence or defence, manuvering or hiding, speed or turning.
The key to any and all space combat can be explained in this one phrase: "Know your enemy and your area." All chassis are gonna be outfitted relitavely the same. Small = speed Big = tank. its almost impossiable to switch those roles.
But in responce to reality vs space combat, I find it very realistic and very challanging. I'm not a flight sim geek, infact I have NO flight sims on my comp...space is just what I love

a little FYI, when you use repair kits on COMPONENTS, the components hp/armor go down
also, on the little pvp session doo and dwilah had....after you went 500m and headed toward each other, did you shoot right away or after you passed each other head on....because it should have been done the second way, go right towards each other full speed, pass each other, then fights on
if you go shooting at each other as you head towards each other, it'll be game over every time

I'm learning from each duel that I do. They're exciting and intense and I really enjoy them in a way I didn't think I would. I would say I agree with Novall but I haven't got a ton of pvp space experience...really all I can say is that so far I've noticed that everyone flies differently. And even though I'm learning from each duel, they're so high-speed it's really hard to think coherently....I guess the stuff you learn is there, but it just kinda comes or doesn't come unconciously depending on whether you're lucky or not...heehee.
Went up against Ekade last night, and it was a very good fight. I managed to beat her the first time, and she wanted a rematch and she targeted my engines the second time...which are sadly my best and weakest component, and I turned and faced her too soon. I ran right into her fire. I was gone in one shot in under a minute in the second duel.
The first fight I actually just flat out ran the first half of it, went dodging around asteroids and such (same spot as yours and mine's duel, Novall) and she got a few grazing hits on me...but when my armor and shields were down I ran again to let them recharge, then we did a few donuts and I sped up and managed to get up on her and got her. Very good fights. =)

I figure if their good enough to get through you Dwilah, then their worth letting em challange me.
LET THIS BE NOTICE TO ALL WHO WONDER. TO FIGHT ME YOU MUST BEAT DWILAH IN FAIR SPACE COMBAT (When I say beat her I mean your wins against her must be greater then her's against you.)!
I fight once and only once. No rematches ect ect, so you better make damn sure your equipment is ready to go when you /duel me. Only computer problems will get you a rematch
To me, this is plenty fair

targetting specific components shouldn't be used in duels...it takes no skill to let the computer ONLY target one thing...
