Grinding my ass off with two of my characters and hating every minute of it. They've turned me into a power gamer from a casual gamer by force! I say by force becaue I agree with what Ekade said. Yes, Jedi could use lightsabers like a quisanart on shwartz juice when needed. But the essense of what a Jedi is is in RP and not the meaningless grinding of xp day in and day out. The system needs revamped.
Don't expect to see me wear my jammies or the tag if and when I do get the 'official' profession. But as far as I'm concerned. I'm already a Jedi. Pfft. Wars not make one great!
Anybody still doing the Jedi grind?
Don't like jedi. Don't want a Jedi. I grinded for about 2 days.

That's a huge part of why I never wanted player jedi. There is no regulating what "should" be.Jedi2b wrote:Don't expect to see me wear my jammies or the tag if and when I do get the 'official' profession. But as far as I'm concerned. I'm already a Jedi. Pfft. Wars not make one great!
Everyone who passes the padawan trials instantly puts on that goddamn robe. You'll see them with their power hammers and vibroknuckles because they just want to show off the fact that they are a jedi. They can't do anything worth doing with jedi skills, but they want some sort of recognition and the devs have catered to it. You also gotta love jedi with the name "Bonel'ord" or "Casey Kasim"
I'm personally sick of seeing people in that robe or with a saber everywhere I go. That is not this time period. Every person going for jedi (which seems like 80% of th gamers) only serves to make things worse.
Once again, I think all player jedi should get wiped. I only take solace in the fact that, from what my inside source tells me, the CU is going to make it hell for them.

While 80% may try for Jedi I doubt that even half of those people will actually grind to Jedi. I'd bet out of the 80% that want to be a Jedi and start the path only 15% of them will actually go through everything to get their Jedi. So I don't have a major problem with the numbers of Jedi at this point.
As to the time period we're in I can see why you'd have an issue and I can agree. I wish they'd set the timeline differently, but what's done is done. And Star Wars just isn't the same with no Jedi. And there's no way we can be 100% sure no other Jedi were in hiding such as Obi-Wan and Yoda. Yoda was undetected because of the large presense of the Darkside due to his battle with a Sith in the Cave. This offered him protection from prying eyes. And if Vader and the Emperor couldn't sense him what's to say there were other Jedi that neither Yoda or the Emperor knew of. Such as the Dark Jedi from the Thrawn series.

I'd presuppose that there were surely other force sensitves around during this part of the timeline, but not trained Jedi with all the tricks, bells and whistles.Hashum wrote:And if Vader and the Emperor couldn't sense him what's to say there were other Jedi that neither Yoda or the Emperor knew of. At this point in the state of the game, it doesn't do much good to compare it to the movies or even those EU books. It'll just end up disappointing you. But, if Jedi are hopping around snap-hissing lightsabers in downtown Coronet/Theed I'm thinking even a deaf, dumb, and blind Emperor is gonna know about it.
It's a measure of discretionary display that I think has most people twisted more than anything. Like people who blatantly flaunt their wealth, it's just a tacky Jedi system.

Maybe Tatooine was remote enough to be relatively safe. Or.. perhaps being in proximity to Luke was worth the risk for Obi-Wan.Hashum wrote:You know I've always found that interesting. Every other Jedi in hiding was in an area with a strong force presence in the area to hide themselves such as Yoda with the Darkside Cave. But Obi=Wan wasn't
The reaction of the patrons of Mos Eisley cantina to Obi-Wan slicing an arm off with a lightsaber is something I have not fully pondered. They did not freak out and say "whoa.. a lightsaber!" They almost did not even care, aside from making sure their own butts were safe.
I had always envisioned that Ekade would be amazed when she saw a Jedi for the first time. Maybe I need to reconsider. I'm not sure.

Ok, in Coronet I can understand how this would be irritating. I guess instead of focusing on the faults of the system and the game, and the timeline I try to understand how it could fit and what is good about it.
There were definately force sensitive people alive during this time period. I mean many of Luke's students were his age so they existed. And I have to believe that more then just Yoda and Obi-Wan were able to escape.
All and all I'm much more pleased with the Jedi system now then I was before with the Holo grind. I think the new very hard system keeps the number of Jedi down. I do agree and wish that the Jedi visability system worked better and I also wish they'd add a Master/Padawan Relationship to the system as well. But all and all I don't have a problem with it.
The real problem is that the wrong people are doing the grind. But once they've done everything they'll leave the game and only those that really appreciate the game and system will remain and then we'll find balance. But I think SOE has tried very hard in this regard so I can't knock them on this.

Ok a little late but I guess I'll chime in.
I'm not grinding towards Jedi at all but Seret does have a foothold in the process. For me I don't want to go through all the effort that's involved because its just not fun for me.
But Jedi is still a part of SWG I haven't tried yet. I've done a lot of the game and while I'm not foolish enough to think I've done it all I have felt I've done most of what I want to do. So down the line the time may come where Jedi is the only bastion of hope for something new in the game to try.
I also kind of like some of the village quests. They're more immersive than the others in the game and some have good rewards. I'd like to try a few more and see how they play.

Just did the crafting repair FS quest yesterday. Wanna know what the tracking device loot pieces are for? It's the phase 4 crafting quest. While I don't care about being able to repair stuff better really....well, maybe I do, I repair clothing and armor from time to time....I'm still going for being able to have the slots open. I found the repair quest to be very immersive and very interesting. I really enjoyed it a lot. It basically goes...
Talk to the guy. He tells you to go talk to a gadget specialist in a city. The gadget specialist sells you a tracking device putter-together-er. You put together the kit (with six lootable tracking device pieces, and four craftable Master Artisan pieces) and it gives you a very cool tracking device (which is unfortunately not droppable in houses).
Then you talk to any starport ticker taker, who sells you the rights to a downed sattelite. You activate your tracker, it tells you the planet....go to the planet, activate again, it gives you the waypoint. Go to the waypoint and find a VERY cool looking, sparking downed sattelite. Extract a computer core.
Once you have the core, you have to connect four wires on the core in a way that makes the indicator lights all light up. It's a puzzle. You have options for blue, red, yellow wires, or no connection. You have to test the connections to see if it works. The cores can only take about six or seven tests before they blow up though.
Took me two tries (just have to remember which combinations do what, plus there's "indicator lights flickering" so you get clues). You get Aurillian Sculpture Piece 2/4 as a reward, which is a very pretty marbled white color.
So, that makes five FS slots open for me. I only have one box actually learned, though.
I need to log a tumbler some more, and with one crafting box learned, I'll have to start grinding up for that. While I want to try Jedi to some extend, I'm (obviously) not rushing towards it or I'd be doing a lot more grinding for XP.

I always assumed this was due to the environment. Scum and villany, aye? Whatever the weapon, they didn't blink at the shots Han fired, either. They took MORE notice of Obi-Wan and his lightsabre, a LOT more...but somebody getting beat on in the dingy cantina is a frequent occurrence there, I think.Ekade wrote:The reaction of the patrons of Mos Eisley cantina to Obi-Wan slicing an arm off with a lightsaber is something I have not fully pondered. True... and in a far, out of the way place like Eisley.. maybe they still have not gotten the news that Jedi were extinct.Dwilah wrote:I always assumed this was due to the environment. Unless there is a part of the story we have not heard... Obi-Wan's periodic nights of drunken debauchery in Mos Eisley. Maybe him jacking people up in the cantina with a lightsaber is a regular thing. *shrugs*

Never wanted to be a jedi...with great power goes great responsibility, and not for nothing is Xyryn a gypsy...hates responsibility.
I also have not read the books. Nor have I played any other multi-player game. Therefore, i came into this game with very nebulous expectations ... which has worked to my advantage.
I take what is presented and play with it. This game is a lot of fun! And when i see someone run by with sparks coming off his feet...well, that's cool and a grin. I've seen very few Jedi types doing Jedi type things, maybe 'cause i'm not where Jedi wannabe's are.
And since Iago dragged me to the Roba, the game has become more fun. First i got to see the roleplaying, confusing as it was. Then, I get to read about it. And now I get to do some of it...where ever I go 'cause the majority of people on Gorath (with whom i have a language in common) DO roleplay.
And I have seen two confirmed Jedi...both roleplaying...in the Roba. And is that Monk, who posted a story thread about himself and his sister, a Jedi? (He was accompanied by a rather powerful wookiee and seemed to have a few followers.)

The Monk is not a Jedi.. he is RP'ing a Teras Kasi. At one time the Teras Kasi hunted Jedi, I think.. my knowlegle on this subject is suspect at best.
I am very glad you are enjoying this community. Every time I hear something like this, it reminds me that all the work we do for eachother is worth it.

Y'know, this is what I thought they should have done with the Force Sensative system. Although jedi are well known, jedi at this point in time are extremely rare. They were also not the only force wielders, and we all know.Ekade wrote:The Monk is not a Jedi.. he is RP'ing a Teras Kasi. I wish they would have done a split FS system where, once you unlocked, you could pursue those other Force Sensative routes, like the Teras Kasi. They could have even allowed female humans to become Nightsisters, with their skin greying with every level achieved.
