Well for Jedi there is a reward for PvP and it's at the forefront of the Jedi profession, and that is the FRS. And that is what's driving the unbalanced PvP you see. The problem is Jedi must choose Imperial or Rebel instead of allowing Dark Jedi and Light Jedi to simply war between themselves.Sai'nu wrote:One of my friends on Chimy is a Jedi and a skilled melee profession with her alt. I've not been there in over a year except to pop in to say howdy. However, she's in one of the predominant Imp guilds there and I can say there is a thriving PvP 'comunal' War between Rebel and Imperial forces there. All that is lacking are the leaders to get the ball rolling (here on Gorath)!
Me, I'm not a PvPer so this aspect of the game means nothing to me. There is no 'real' reward for participating in it; it's just something you do if you like to PvP. With the acception of the Force Ranking System now and the way in which you must take out a Faction Base. But, the latter does not necessarily involve PvP if there is no one there to defend said base.
In other words; PvP is a broken mechanic of this game; just IMO. However, the 'guild war' option 'is' something that 'again' is practiced and does give PvP a more 'thematic' RP feel to the game. *points to our swgtales guild leaders* So, get a war going already!
The way it is now, Jedi must PvP regularly to advance through the FRS System (currently not active but, we have no indication of when or what will drive it when it gets back). Now if when they reintroduce the FRS if they simply take out the faction base selection of the Knight Trials so you simply choose light or dark I think you'd see a much better GCW.
You can't blame Jedi for being so invovled in the GCW and PvP when the dev's have essentially forced that on them. And as Rebecca said Jedi are not all that tough, sure if you get a full templated Jedi you're in for trouble, especially if they have master defender with Avoid Incap which is currently sort of broken (as far as balance goes). But I don't think there needs to be a cap. The problem is just tweaking the system to make them less noticable.
As to visibility this only really plays a roll when you're grinding as a Jedi, once you've completed your template the only way to continue advancing is through the FRS and to do that you need to PvP, and that requires you killing large numbers of Jedi and BH's. So they frankly want visibility at that point. Which gets back to my earlier point if they simply change the FRS system and maybe by simply getting listed on the Terminal's for BH's or fighting a BH they take a hit to their advancement in the FRS and remove the faction alignments the world would be a happier place.
