Well, I wasnt there...and honestly I'm glad I wasnt.Nyvveck wrote:I would just like to point out that I did make it very clear who I was at Ruby Lake, even going show far to show my Inquisitor's ID.
I informed those that took me to the police station many times that I was an Imperial officer. I stepped out of character and did not punish the man that I fought in any way, other than incapping him. I was looking forward to getting back to the party. However, by this time I was quite put off that the Ruby Lake Police Department didn't seem to acknowledge in any way the the Empire even existed, and I acted as such, reminding them of the Emperor's power (Thus my comment of kill them). So, I was told I was banned from the city, and was escorted out.
I later asked if I was truely banned from the city, and was told that if I were to go back, I would be treated as a fugitive. Well...a rather high ranking Imperial officer will not be treated like a fugitive. So, I came back to the city with some stormtroopers to inspect the cantina, and let the recidents know that the Empire does indeed exist...it's not a simple fairy tale. Well, then I was truely banned, and was told something along the lines of "Don't use RP to push your OOC agenda!"...I didn't even know I had an OOC agenda, I was simply doing what my character would do. Personally, OOC I was not put off that I had been escorted out of town, I had acted the part of the arrogant Imperial officer and had been treated as such. When I was truely banned from the event, however, I began to get angry and decided that I would leave.
Now, I want to make it clear that the events that happened at Ruby Lake were not the only things that made me want to leave. Being banned from Ruby Lake for RPing an Imperial simply was a nail in the coffin.
Generally, it was the common RPer that made me want to bow out of RP. Kirt was telling me of someone who sent him a /tell "Okey, you showed how cool you are, you can leave now." If people think I am petty enough to go to these events to satisfy my ego, I simply will not go. The very few people that actually get enjoyment out of Imperial RP is not worth the HUGE majority that feel that I am a griefer.
And if I were to simply ignore those that thought I was a griefer, I would have one, maybe two other people at any given event to talk to.
And frankly, I never go to an event looking for a fight. However, because of the role I choose to play, I am not likely to give a rebel a slap on the hands and let him go.
Being an Imperial sure is fun...

heh all I know is that the people I think that banned you nyvveck, werent Rper's and Dont know what it is honestly, I mean the guy saying what he did to me later apologized when he Relized after 45 mins that we were Rping and I saw him drop his rebel armor and go "into the shadows" so I think Like Ekade and I have said, if we go again in Storm trooper RP or any event we Post in Spatial that we are RPing and make it clear as to not have people think we are Non-rper greifers.
Misunderstanding, by definition, is always a result of a lack of communication.
As a casual observer of these complaints over the last few months I am starting to see a repeating pattern.
Basically some imperial force appears somewhere, throws it's weight around.. and RP breaks down. Why is this? What is the core problem here? It seems to happen every time. Why?

Well that and they know the Imperial's can't do a thing about it if all they do is /slap /spit them all night.E-bo Obi wrote:Because rebels are scum!
The problem is everyone wants to be the hero, so they're not going to let some Imperial's push the around. And the game doesn't create any reason why they should.

No, but don't expect to not get any crap at all about it. Jabe left the Empire, but the Empire thinks he's dead. I wrote a way out, it kinda cliche, but its an out. So I am not sure what the point is really.Isleh wrote:One of the things that bothers me is I attacked Alonzo at S&V because I felt my character would feel it was a dire enough situation... Should I show up at the Roba now? No. If Nyvveck shows up at Club Midnight, I should leave. If a squad of storm troopers show up at Ruby Lake, I should leave... etc. etc. etc.. Because if I don't, then they are forced to suddenly get very poor vision and have memory problems.

what it comes down to is this:
for SWG to be truly RP, there needs to be imperial law
if there is imperial law in swg, it turns instantly into griefing
so therefore, you will never have imperial law...

I expected to get crap out of it. In fact, the next event I came as 'someone else' I have a fake badge of a corsec officer. It's an actually in game loot and I brought that with me as a prop.Jabe Adaks wrote:No, but don't expect to not get any crap at all about it. Jabe left the Empire, but the Empire thinks he's dead. The point of this statement is that it supports the premise that rebels that engage in direct confrontation with the empire should expect be outcasts.
*sigh*
You're just looking for a fight from me it seems Jabe. You're not going to get one in this case.

Give you an example - I think my first time back in the Theed cantina post-CU was a real eye-opener! I mean, there was this harassing stormtrooper just going from person to person asking for papers and picking for a fight, as an NPC! I was in shock. Reflexively part of me thought, _When will the spamming stop?_ Then another part of me thought: well heck, if it wasn't for this attempt, what would get across anything repressive about the regime?
-Aliens seem to be as free as Humans to do anything they wish.
-Shuttle services are fastest they've ever been.
-I've never been hit with some Imperial tax: if you slap a stormtrooper you get a fine -- that's friendlier than just being shot down even
-None of the Nazi-style bad things appear to be going on
-I guess there's that slight chance a sliced piece of equipment will get you in trouble--or did that go away now?
-If I weren't a covert Rebel, I never would have been attacked a couple times out of the blue
So I guess all-in-all, SWG doesn't make the Empire so bad. And, yes, whenever there is that attempt it does bring out a griefing effect -- otherwise, why wouldn't there be a rebellion against it? But as it turns out, ~80% play the Rebels/Neutrals leaving about 20% it seems to be griefed for being in proper character.

Good 'cause I really don't want one. I see someone who is a far better role-player than me bowing out.Jabe Adaks wrote:Despite popular belief I am not picking a fight..Isleh wrote:You're just looking for a fight from me it seems Jabe. You're not going to get one in this case.

I didn't see the first part last Fridays happenings, naturally enuff, as they were outside the Cantina and I was inside. When the Imperial squad came into the Cantina and began the chain of events that led to Sepiv being led out in handcuffs, I was a little worried that we were going to have the usual action.
Instead, several players tried to prevent the arrest the same way any group of ordinary people would have. Logic and appealing to chivalry did not work (lol), and we all stood around and worried for Sepiv...and felt helpless. It was VERY immersive.
In all the postings about what went wrong that nite, no one has commented on what went right with that scene. We all acknowledged the power of the Empire by not physically challenging its representatives. Several of us were cl 80 and could have, but we didn't.
Also, no one spatially insulted the Imperials. No one slapped, licked, or otherwise showed disrespect to the Imperials. And no poster, other than Sepiv, has in any way stated that it was different from the usual result of an Imperial shakedown.
This may have been only one small victory for the Role Players against a whole lot of loses. But it was a victory. And the result? One of the better RPers quits.
Yeah, that sends a great message.

Those are great points. I debated doing a violent action back to escape that moment too but then I realized too then that I could never come to Ruby Lake or anywhere else for that matter in public. A Rebel fugitive should be a Rebel fugitive. ... not that I have an idea how to get out of this but that's drama I suppose.xyryn wrote:I didn't see the first part last Fridays happenings, naturally enuff, as they were outside the Cantina and I was inside.
