Going to places you don't wanna go I think.
I remember someone feeling it was appropriate to abuse my IC dog and then not accept the duel when I moved in to defend it.
I can honestly tell you if you hit my dog IRL I would beat you within an inch of your life.
The only time I will ever end the duel when I am losing, is if the opposite person cannot be trusted enough to not DB. Unfortunately my items are sacred to me.

I cant wait for the combat change either. I hate this combat system, and I hate buffs. But I'm still going to use them. Unless there is a rule stating somewhere in bright brilliant lettering "NO BUFF EVENT."
I am a master doctor, and I have the right to use the skills that I have dedicated all my points to.
I cant stress enough that the problem with dueling is not buffs, it is dueling. You want realism? Dont duel.
Scenario: You and someone else end up having a heated IC arguement one night at the Rhoba. Taking your issues "outside" as it were, both of you go for your weapons. You use a warhammer, a 100lb weapon with enough force to crush a skull. Your opponent, a scatter pistol, an automatic shotgun that fits in the palm of your hand. Both of you knowing what you are doing, go for the headshots of your combat classes. Bounty Hunter and Swordsman. So the bounty hunter shoots the swordsman in the head twice, and he falls down. 45 seconds later, the swordsman stands up, rubbing her now torn and tattered face, the one with 40 odd scatter blasts torn through it, and walks into the cantina to enjoy a drink.
Sorry, there are problems bigger than buffs.

That's why I love the Geo Pistol for RP. It's a stun gun so makes incapping someone temporarily much more realistic. And I can still shoot them in the head.

Maybe the aim is just to give you a better chance of contending with the higher HAM creatures that you'll be able to fight at the top of your game?
Or maybe to help make sure that no matter how much money you have to buy a crazy set of mega-gear, you're not taking on an elite mob if you don't have the HAM to hang?
Or, in a word,
Fear. Fear of mobs/creatures in the game that should cause fear and respect for a player.
I'm not sure, seriously, but I like those reasons.

Not sure where this thread is going, but I will put in my two cents...because I can!
Oh, and please keep in mind, this is just an opinion.
Buffed combat in RP is a tad silly in my opinion. We claim that the game is already unbalanced and "unrealistic". Why is it so unreasonable to bend the rules of realism just a teensy bit further by using the buff system? I mean it
is part of the SWG system afterall.
Rebecca, I understand and accept your view on buffs in a certain sense. If you want to solo a Krayt, be my guest and I wish you luck. It is a pretty impressive feat to take one down all by your lonesome.
However, when talking about buffs in rp, we need to look at things a little differently. What is "role-play"? I mean really. The way I always looked at it was attempting to make something as lifeless as lines of code for a computer program, devoid of humanity and personality, and make it
real. As real as it can ever possibly be.
Do buffs bring any semblence of the realism we should be hoping to achieve in RP? I would say no. Regardless of whether or not it was built into the "system", we are RP'ers have to realize that it is too far out of whack to include in Realistic RP. For me it is essentially the straw that breaks the camel's back.
When we say, hey if you want to talk smack and rp being a bad ass, back it up by being buffed to the teeth...what are we saying?
"I cant stress enough that the problem with dueling is not buffs, it is dueling. You want realism? Dont duel."
So in essence, since you don't want to play by someone else's rules, then you should play by mine? And naturally, mine supercede yours because mine take advantage of an imbalance that happens to occur naturally in the game? I always assumed that RP combat was to be done unbuffed. An unwritten rule, but a rule, nonetheless.
I think that Dariis is onto something with his fight nights and combat tactics. I personally feel that there are ways to be very effective unbuffed in all combat professions. There are low ham weapons in different profs and mastery of special attacks and more importantly, their effects, is where we should be devoting our attention.

I have to say one thing about unbuffed combat. Its more of a mind game.
1. Befor you enter combat you think ok I will spam Last ditch for my win.
Example: I dueled Situng unbuffed no food, spice or drinks and we did 3 special spams.
I did Low blow, followed by stoping shot, and finished off with Last Ditch
I won
We did it again this time I used.
Stoping shot, Moved in and used pistol Whip, then Fast blast.
I WON!
Guess what the thrid time I tried another set using Fast blast, Low blow then last ditch and I lost..Cause she hit me with a Carbineer KD.
Now as you can see you may say. Yea but buffed all you have to do is spam last ditch and thats the problem cause you honestly shouldnt be able to.
As for Rebeccas comment about the duel with a swords and BH, easy to fix that. Unless you plan on deleting your char all duels that end with a incap since we dont DB cause its stupid, you SET YOUR WEAPONS TO STUN! or does everyone forget watching the ST's on the vette doing that to their e-11 carbines to leia.

Well all I can say is the Roba is off the list of events which i am going to attend in the future unless something changes
The whole thing kind of died though because once the Imps and the rebs took it outside there was almost no one left inside.

What happened this week was not an exception, not the norm. To be honest, it was one of the more lively Robas in a while. Back in the "Alonzo days" there was a bar clearing brawl every week, that's what made it fun. Everyone started inside with good music and good convo, and ended outside with good RP pvp. Either having -OvT- Come to arrest Alonzo, or some bounty hunter coming to collect on his head, there was always something.
Also, part of the problem was that, while TTF had bigger numbers, we didn't have snazzy uniforms to show we had numbers, and I didn't press the issue. I am working on something right now so that either this week or more likely next week, Trade-Sec will have their new uniforms. It's one thing for Imperials to show up out of the blue and we lay low to not cause problems, but establishing a consistant pressence....it just ain't gonna happen
