lets make a game

War, I've told you a bit about my ideas and outline in PMs. Although the general idea is for a fantasy game, most of the ideas can be translated into SciFi, which is where my heart truly lies. Honestly, I can't really stand fantasy.

I'd love to help on this. One of my big ambitions is to make a game (MMO or single player, whatever).

I am not trying to bust anyone's balls here, but I don't think anyone here has a clue about how much work it will take to get any of this off the ground. Not to mention the fact that its not going to be right the first time and the rework time is like 3x doing it the first time.

I am reminded of the time when I was a kid.. me and another kid in the neighborhood decided we could build a helicopter out of wood. Or the time we thought we could dig a hole that would go to China. It ain't happening.

Never underestimate idiots in large numbers. And you're certainly not disillusioning me at the very least. I know that something like this would be extremely hard, and would take more than a few people whose best abilities are drawing and coming up with concepts. But that's where it all starts.

The idea that my friend and I had was to make our idea as rock solid as possible and then pitch it to whomever we think would be capable and interested. I'm creative, not logical, so I stay away from the real work (i.e. programming and cutting out unfeasable ideas).

I would say something to the effect of "Don't say it 'ain't happening'", but I figure someone has to. In every long shot, there has to be at least one naysayer. So now that we've hit our quota, let's move on.

And... just for encouragements sake... I think you could do it. But your going to need tons of $$$ , a lot of work hours, and some very qualified tech people to pull it off.

Dear Jabe,

We are moving along with this project, because I have lost my mind. I don't care about people saying "you can't" or "it's a lot of work." Because If I see these games ARE being made. I also see that Mod teams for games like Operation Flashpoint have enough time to waste that they rework the entire game, within certain limitations to create something like AVP, or Halo WITHIN the flashpoint game and engine.

Now, I am not saying we create our engine from scratch. I am thinking we could form our team, and find a larger group to help us develop one of their existing engines to fit our needs. Concepts are not too hard for game devs to come up with. But a working continuous storyline and economy ARE difficult to work out, while maintaining something that is fresh and new.

I am crazy enough to make this happen... just you wait and see.

Kinda like Crash Bandacoot... only with Lekku... but I guess we can't call them that...

My thingies! I've always wanted to play a humoreous game where I could say, "Yeah, I play that race with Thingies on their head!"

May I make a suggestion and say maybee we take this to a new forum here on Tales. It would help with the organizational process and allow those involved to get into more details then what we are comfortable with in an open forum.

I tried to make a new thread, but that didn't work out. I applaud trying for a new forum, though. We could then create different threads for different topics (i.e. economy, combat, items, etc).

I am working out several things using the different medias I have collected and generated, and am trying to compile it into one large entity.

Thanks to Griven and Jerrel so far for being the most enthusiastic about this. I am working on outlines and generaliztions, and in some cases getting almost to specifics. Hopefully I can circulate my efforts back through both of you so that we can work toward a common point.

Nice to know, Toront. I'd like to jump onto this project full on. My friend's interest has drifted more toward other things lately, and not a lot of work has been getting done on our project. However, I'm still ambitious to create a game of any sort, and science fiction is a killer genre.

THE best document I've found thusfar. Many of the ideas in my own writeup have stemmed from the princepals outlined here. It's long, but well worth the read. Also, even though it says "work in progress" it hasn't been updated since April 5, 2002.

A dedicated forum for this project will not be needed here. Firstly, that is not the intended purpose of this board. Secondly, the board is for SWG-RP.

This particular thread should be enough to get folks here involved, but for anything larger I may look into an independant board, or alternative method of communicating.

PS: none of this shall sway me in my pursuit of a world dominating MMO that puts the world in a state of shock and awe, and kills off more people through addiction than all other combined.
