Hafta buy a processor cuz mine burned up. Gonna also put a blow-hole on top to suck off the heat. Hopefully prevent it from happening again. I'm also looking to pick up some RAM and maybe someone can help me figure this out. I'm limited to DDR 2700. I'd like to pick up an additional 1GB and have been looking through Pricewatch sites and ebay.
Anyway, does anybody use RAM that has only 4 DRAMs? All the namebrand stuff is 64x8 DRAMs and the generic is 128x4. I have no idea how to check and see if 128x4 will work in my system. I can get 1GB of the generic for $89 while the namebrand stuff is at least 1.5x the cost, usually more. I'm running an Asus A7S333 with SiS745 Chipset, Athlon 2400 processor.
Or if anyone can direct me to someplace selling the good stuff cheap you'll make me a happy fish.
thx,

How much are you willing to spend? hehe
don't get on me about this cause know money is hard to come by/part with ;)
I finally decided to build a new machine, I got a mobo/cpu combo and a gig of ram, I spent 300+- on it.
you could go cheaper if you get a different mobo/cpu or whatever,
ok but cheapest way togo is pricewatch, I recomment finding comething a little better than generic, that's what I did and it runs beautifully.
I would go with this it is the cheapest one on their I could find with a brand name...

Yeah, the price for the Mitsubishi brand is fine - I saw this one before, but the specs don't tell you whether it's 128x4 or 64x8! Fukkers.

I don't know where they get their numbers from...
The ram I bought here recently has 8 DRAMs per side, do it has 16,
meaning mine is 8X64 256MB per side.
they are tricky with that crap when they say 128X4 their are still 8 on one side but the other has nothing.

I emailed that company to make sure.
Not gonna upgrade all my parts just yet. Athlon 2400 is fine for running games. Maybe when they hit 5000

From what I've been reading that 128x4 has really limited compatibility. THAT'S why I'm a little worried.

yeah man I hear ya... I just looked up the user manual for your board.. it says it only supports chips up to 18 drams.. so you should be good with 64X8, I just looked it up and it is 128X4....
Also the manual says to get OEM or performance rated ram for best results, And I cant find crap that is 64X8
Man I bought my 64X8 DDR400 for $156.00 and that is cheap for mid-range stuff....

The saga continues for me...
After slapping my new chip in and playing on Wed I had a few crash to restarts. The chip was still around 100 degrees so not too hot, so I left it on overnight to see if I get a windows crash. It was locked in the morning. Last night I went through just about everything I could think of aside from a system wipe, even flashing my BIOS. So tonight I get to back up my shit in and wipe its butt...unless anyone has any ideas I can try? At this point only safe mode will load.

Test safe mode to see if it locks like normal mode. If it doesn't its a software/driver issue if it does don't bother reloading, you got hardware issues.MrDooo wrote:The saga continues for me...
