Football Time !

Huuuut! Hut-Hut HUT!
And no it's not about Jabba, though he does look like a freakish football.
I'm talking about my one and only sport. The only one that I care about. Football American style
Any fans here? I know we have some of you Chicago area types that
have to be.
Anybody see last weekend's games? I saw 3 pretty efficiently run games. The Patriots-Colts game that was very tight until the 3rd quarter and all the goofy turnovers. Then there was the return of Joe Gibbs in Washington. That was one helluva smart surgical game the Redskins played against Tampa Bay, one of the better defenses in the league despite last season's trades.
And then how fun is it going to be to watch Donovan McNabb dial up Terrel Owens all season long for Philadelphia? It's gonna be hard to handle the both of them with the backfield and downfield getting stretched out.
And the 4th game I watched was a great Monday Night opener. The Green Bay Packers were appropriately nasty against the NFC champion Carolina Panthers. The Packers established the run early then let loose Favre's gunfighter arm. Just nasty to watch.
I really don't put too much stock into the games until Week 5, after everyone's basically made all of their cuts and have the team that their going to run with the rest of the season. So none of these games are that telling. But, after waiting for so long for my one and only sport to show back up, it was fun to watch.
The start of NFL season is worth more than 4-5 JTLs to me.
And even though that was just Week One....the Cleveland Browns brutalized the Baltimore Ravens 20-3!!! Yeah, Uh-Huh Uh-Huh What? Shuddup!

Steelers fan here. But I won't be able to watch any of their games unless the Ravens are destroyed, literally not figuratively.
CBS and the NFL seem to think that people in Harrisburg PA area would rather watch the Ravens than the Steelers.
I hate people who think too hard.

That's a good fan, then. I admire bad weather fans. And I actually would rather see a well played loss from my team than a cheesy win. The Game > Team for me. Kinda like RolePlay. I'd rather see a good story were my character suffered than be superdude all the time.
But speaking of bad weather, Skarr  ....

Do Cook County Hospitals have blood plasma in Blue & Orange?

yeah tell me about it, although really the only games I want the Bears to destroy the opponent (besides divisional teams) and the cowboys on thxgiving...I've been in dallas so long flying and taken so much crap, and I have always hated the cowboys...even the security screener at the airport were giving me shit....I want the cowboys dead!!

Like Skarr, I am a lifelong Bears fan, although I have to admit it's becoming more and more difficult to be a fan when the PACKERS HAVE BEATEN US THE LAST 20 GAMES.
There's no rivalry left. We're just now the Packers bitches and take it in the backside every time we meet. Thank god we play them 3 times every year. Maybe by 2012 we'll finally be back to "even" with them.
So yes, I'm excited about football season, even though I'm prepared to be let down. Again.
A few of us also follow some college ball around here. I follow NIU and I know Zan and his wife watch U of I games (since his wife's an Illini, even though he's a Huskie like I am).

One of these seasons I'm going to dedicate to College Ball. I've rarely been available to do the Sat-Sun double lounge in the afternoon

Sunday usually gets it all.
College ball is the more dynamic of the 2. Players are hungrier. More fun feeling. Then there's all the "unorthodox" plays. Flip-Flops, Flea Flickers, Reverse runs. Good stuff, happnin'!

Tombstone...the source of many a good quote...
"he's so drunk, I bet he can't even see straight."
"That's why I've got two guns..one for each of ya."
"You die first, get it? Your friends might get me in a rush, but not before I make your head into a canoe, you understand me? "
"It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds."
"If you weren't my friend, Ed, I couldn't bear it. "
I'm sure I'm forgetting some...damn I love that movie...I think I watch it too much.

Not sure, Arifo, but I think that it might have to do with the Ravens being one of the more "marquee" teams in the last few years. CBS/NFL are looking at the ratings.
While it does suck for a fan, I could see it all changing in Pennsylvania TV markets when the Steelers become a force again. I say
when, because I think old man Rooney (the owner) has the long term vision.
And you guys were Superbowl bound there in 2002 if not for 2 Kordell Stewart interceptions within 40 seconds of each other. I was actually rooting for you guys that game and I'm from Cleveland!
