I started getting errors in my IE and outlook express, and even though I did what ms suggested, nothing worked, so I decided to reinstall win 2k...well it started to install just fine, until it got to the "install devices" portion of install, where it hangs.
so here's the kicker...reset comp, and it re-continues the install back where it left off, "install devices" and then hangs, so reset again, and try safe mode and every other startup mode, it goes to reinstall and hangs.
I put it in the original config I had when I installed win2k the first time(unhooked a HD and put back in older video card) and it still hangs. tried taking the windows 2k cd out of drive, and it still wants to resume...
so all I got is a comp that reboots, installs, hangs...and now I have to go back to DFW with this on my mind the whole time...I hardly slept last night...you guys got any ideas?
ok my windows/comp is majorly screwed up...
That my friend is some sort of virus. I got it a bunch of time on Ahnk's computer through spam e-mails before I started running a LOT more security on it. You'll need to wipe the drive, reformat it, and start from scratch. I was able to get into the HD and save info, but it ran like crap and took forever.
That's my guess as to your problem, but maybe somone has more helpful feedback for ya.

To be honest the best thing to do is get the hard drive mounted in another PC as the secondary drive and run a virus scan off the latest signatures. Then I would back up your data while its connected. If worse comes to worse you can always format it since you copied your stuff over.
When you get it back up, install Firefox first thing.

ok I have gotten little further...I unplugged all plug indevices but mouse keyboard, and monitor...it gets to the end of the install devices parts, back and next bolden so you can click them, but can't click them and it's hung again...
I hooked up my 2ndary drive as the primary drive, but I get an error saying ntldr is not installed or missing or something like that...
so all my primary drive with all my shit just reboots, tries to reinstall windows and hangs, the other drive i can't get to to format...
I don't have a 2nd comp to put my drive into to format or backup or whatever...I'm really fucking stumped on this one...

I had that NTLDR thing happen to me before... trying to remember the situation. I think that has something to do with the secondary drive's format - is it a FAT32? Make sure it's NTFS formatted. You may need to create the startup floppies off the CD to get it all set up right (not sure).

repair failed
so now it's time to reformat the drive :x :x
I have saved my info from swg, so setting it back up shouldn't take to long, just the rest of it will, ugh

thx for the confidence :x :lol:X'an Shin wrote:Can you burn the updates to disk soyou won't have to DL them again next time this happens?
anyway the windows 2k updates have to be done in a certain order, so you just have to let it run, most updates for other programs I already have on my other drive, so that stuff shouldn't take to horribly long...but hell I gotta DL winzip again just to open em, lol
