"You can no longer revoke the force sensitive title skill as a non-Jedi. (Jedi's already could not revoke this)."
AHHHH. GRAMMAR PAIN.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the plural form of Jedi....Jedi? Either way, it shouldn't have an apostrophe. Right? Right? Or have I just missed something? It hurts my heart.
Grammar Error in Patch Notes
You're right about Jedi being it's own singular and plural, Dwilah. I'm the biggest "Grammar Hammer" that I know, but I've tuned out most of what I see.
This is made easier also by realizing that the english language has too many goofy rules for a sensible mind in the first place. The Great Vowel Shift about 600 years ago screwed it up big time. So when I see people spell by sound, sometimes I say "Why not?".
For instance, "laugh". What the hell? What's wrong with "laf". And why not just do away with all silent letters?
And the letter "C"? Assassinate that. We don't need it really. "K" and "S" have it's job nailed down fine. If the "ch" sound is needed, why not just make another letter for it or have "C" be the new "ch"? I'll stop the list here, but there's surely more.
See what you did, Dwi? Now my heart hurts, too!

It's bad enough I have to see the letter "K" replace the letter "C" all the time around work. (think fighting game made by Midway.)
We even have "mokap" (motion capture) sessions for them.
ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH.

I'm just a big fan of sense and practicality is all.Dwilah wrote:Keer, you break my heart. ;___;
Sticking to rules that don't make sense out of traditional inertia is why we're still stuck without the Metric System. Just ask the project team for the Mars mission that went down the toilet because we're still using Standard measures. 300 million bucks gone on that one.
A people that prides ourselves for innovation should be all over this stuff.

The game is filled with grammatical problems and this isn't the first time the main announcements have a spelling error.
I am just glad they take time with the code at least.

Talk to me about my Beta experience tonight. I've spent the past hour trying to get my mission to work. Granted, it's Beta, but Jaybus, right now it doesn't feel like the code is so good.Jabe Adaks wrote:The game is filled with grammatical problems and this isn't the first time the main announcements have a spelling error.

and Q. Q is either a C (or in this case, a K) or it's a KW.

It all goes back to the story of the five monkeys. this is what I tell everyone in my office when they reply to my questions of "why?" with "I dunno, we have always done it that way."Keer wrote:Sticking to rules that don't make sense out of traditional inertia is why we're still stuck without the Metric System. In a lab there are five monkeys in a cage. In the center of the cage there is a ladder and at the top of the ladder are banana's dangling from a string.
Eventually monkey number 1 attempts to climb the ladder to get the bananas. As soon as he reaches the ladder he the scientists zap the other four monkey with electric. This continues everytime a monkey goes for the ladder. all the other monkeys are shocked. So eventually the monkeys begin to attack whoever goes for the ladder.
Over a few weeks each monkey is replaced one by one with a new monkey. The cycle continues a few times until none of the orginal monkeys are in the cage.
Now everytime a monkey goes for the ladder all the other monkeys beat the hell out of that monkey. They don't know why they do it, its just the way its always been done.

Do you know that we only think of a Base-10 system as making sense because it is what we are the most used to? We are usually most used to it because growing up we use our fingers as a basis of counting, but it hasn't always been this way.Keer wrote:Sticking to rules that don't make sense out of traditional inertia is why we're still stuck without the Metric System. Arifo, love the monkey story. It reminds me of the Superstigeous Pigeon story.

I realize that, but it's missing the point. It's not about the reason why we use what we use, it's about the ease of use of what we use.TramelRaggs wrote:Do you know that we only think of a Base-10 system as making sense because it is what we are the most used to? How many inches in a foot? 12
How many feet in a mile? 5,280
Centimeters in a meter? 100
Meters in a kilometer? 1,000
Which is easier to use, communicate, learn and teach?
How do you spell inertia? Hmm, i-n-e-r-t-i-a. Why? Because, we have for hundreds of years and you have to rely on rote memorization.
Okay how about?
How do you spell inertia? Easy, e-n-e-r-s-h-e (second and third "e"'s are "schwa"'s. Had to say so, because I can't type that symbol with keystrokes) Why? Easy, because that's how it sounds.
Once again, easier to use, communicate, learn and teach.
Like I said in my first post, I feel weird too when "the rules" are broken. But, when the rules are flawed from the jump, it's easier to understand and accept why there are grammar and math conversion errors. It's the devotion to the flawed system that should be the issue.

Some good points, but phonic spellings only won't solve every problem. You've still got the Your/You're problems, and even worse, the to/two/too problem. Strictly phonic spellings of those words (and more) would create potentially as many problems as it would solve. How would you differentiate "we" and "oui"? "I" and "eye"?Keer wrote:How do you spell inertia? Hmm, i-n-e-r-t-i-a. Why? Because, we have for hundreds of years and you have to rely on rote memorization.

I think the system works. I'm not going to try and fix it
