Sorry but the limited gametime I have had this week has been spent trying to learn the game. I hope that ekade gives me a clue and tells me how to use the jetpack.

I read this post and decided to log as Coiy and fire things up for the next round of stuff to go on in Noct... I was rp'ing with Kush when I realized that everyone went outside and was standing around for no apparent reason.

Aside from that I made some serious changes to Coiy as he kept getting cloned and showing back up looking different. I don't know if it was just generally uninteresting or that nobody cared. Either way I feel it was a waste of time.

People are so self involved (maybe that includes myself, I dunno) that rp that allows others to watch and get involved doesn't seem to work anymore.

Seems like you've run into the same problem most RPers at these events have. I don't want people to take Jabe's use of the term "self-involed" too negatively though. We all have our own dialogues at these events and we all try as hard as we can too keep up with spatial. That leaves us with no choice to but to ignore a lot of whats going around.

Maybe these S&V nights need a little more openess. Maybe we should all keep our ears and eyes open a little wider and try to take more in. Its not a horrible thing that we fall into small group RP conversations and drown everything out, its just time to think about expanding our horizons a bit.

I think the biggest problem with the RP nights that I noticed is that everyone has an agenda, and everyone has a story they want to push. What happens is that nobody is playing and reacting, and everyone is attempting to be a storyteller, so nothing ever gets done.

It's been my experience that RP tends to be the most enjoyable when there are GMs telling a story or giving a situation to react to, and there are players reacting to it. Right now it's a room full of GMs and no players. People need to be more willing to be a player and come to the RP events willing to play INTO someone else's event, and not just come to tell their own story. For me, one of the best times I've had RPing was at the Roba when I showed up as X'an in costume (used an alt account so nobody would know it was X'an), and played X'an playing a different character, who was forced to react to everyone and everything around them. I wound up solving a mystery in the process. It was loads of fun.

So I had fun just being there and being X'an reacting to everyone while pretending to be someone else. Everyone doesn't HAVE to have a story to tell EVERY night.

Sorry all for showing up late. I normally show up on time, then go AFK to put the kids to bed. I decided to put them to bed first, then log in.

When I arrived the crowd was suprisingly large. I saw several new faces and started interacting with them. I usually try to interact with the "new" people to make them welcome and feel them out from an RP perspective.

It looks like another group of roleplayers ahowed up at our event. They had some RP thing going with the MERCS. So like Jabe said, there was a lot going on.

To the issue of people with their own agenda.. Jabe has an excellent point. Personally I have a hard time roleplaying at those types of venues. I do much better in very small groups. So much happens in spatial that I miss half of it.

There was a large amount of figting that occurred last night as well. It was hard to tell what was a significant battle, and what wasn't.

To X'an's point.. How do we get players to play into someone else's events more? I see the problem as well, someone lays out a scenario and it gets ignored more often than not. Players to need to play along. I don't know what the answer is. Maybe we just try harder to listen better.

Lastly, too much going on is not necessarily a problem. I'd rather have that than too little.

I think the exception to the rule is casino night. I think that there everyone can do their own thing, and rp a bunch of different agendas and it all works out, BECAUSE there is so much to do...I've been to roba and SnV, and frankly was kinda bored, but when you group people together with RP AND activities going on, everyone can do their own agenda AND interract with lots of different people...

hell all I did at casino night was walk around and keep the place "secure"

basically it involved walking around doing nothing, but because of everyone's interaction it made it enjoyable...

this is no way a plug for Casino night over any other RP function, just a perspective from the lizard

Without hyping Casino night and knocking the other RP nights I think Skarr touched on something big here (hey first time for everything ). The key is to provide activities that are for anyone to join in and suddenly you create RP situation opportunites.

For example if Coiyonite wanted to express something he could sit down at the casino game with some folks and start RPing with the folks in that group. Or he could get the bouncers attention by brandishing a weapon. There's lots of activities and people to get attention from.

But alas Casino has the same problems sometimes. On the first night we tried to hype our grand prize winner Bilko and as much as we pushed it no one seemed to pay attention.

I think the key is to look for that niche. Find that group or pull people in to an activity or situation the best you can. Don't rely that the whole group will pay attention to what you have going on, just hope a decent amount will.

Yes, Skarr and Seret hit the nail on the head. Casino Night rocks because there is something to do, something fall back on. Roba and S&V are too open ended, you have to constantly create your own RP. At the Casino it is much easier to fall into an RP scene, the whole experience is very immersive.

Roba and S&V serve their functions fairly well. They are simply gathering points. These are necessary because RP'ers are scattered throughout the galaxy. Could they be better? Sure.
