I am thinking about killing of one of my alts. Think its my third toon but that doesnt matter. Upon doing so I am going to create a new toon and well the name doesnt matter. I am going to have him NOT learn the different langauges in swg and play stupid and have a human translate for me. Does anyone think this will work or will it get stupid?

Well Tandis, I can tell you that I have two characters that don't know any language other than basic. It helps my roleplay out a lot. People have to tell me what the lesser beings are saying. I think it would be kickass if the game would allow a protocol droid to translate someone's speech, but that's just too much to ask, I guess.

If you don't know, you can unlearn languages by using a certain / command. I can't remember off the top of my head, and I know there is a thread floating around here with it inside.

BTW, are you still running the Obsidian Mining Co? I know you pulled your vendor out of Skara Brae.

The only reason Jaminos knows the languages is because his brother spoke zabrik his other brother spoke shyrrwook and he had a transdoshin commander for a few mounths before he was killed from a bad bantha accident.

Anyone else here willing to pay good money to watch Jaminos speak wookiee? I'd bet he'd get his arms torn off soon after for telling a wookiee "I like your thighs can I live in them?"

Honestly, I predict frustration and a small amount of disappointment for you in this effort, BUT I'd be SO glad to be proven wrong.

One of my best buddies quit the game wayy back, becasue he had his heart set on making droids that could translate languages. One day, p'raps...

Ive tried this. It works, but unfortunatly it doesn't give any kind of confirmation on screen that its done. You have to have someone speak that language to make sure you can't understand it anymore. Even just a simple system message like you get when you switch language would be nice.

After some help from Dossk with this awhile back, Dwilah unlearned Zabrak and Dosh. After thinking about it, I pretty much decided that her background didn't really have room for knowing those two languages, and even though people pick on me for not knowing them, I maintain that learning a language takes a long time. Also, her Mon Cal and Ryl is weak. I try to remember to watch for when people use it.

What I personally would love to see is a quest involving gathering information to learn Huttese and Bocce in the game. That would kick.

Yes it would, I would love to know Huttese, as I am sure many of the fellow pirates in Nocturnus would as well, it would go good with our storylines...

actually my alt knows only basic and her native tongue.. its quite fun actually.. she often gets this puzzled look on her face when she hears others speak in tongues :P

I struggle with whether or not Ekade should unlearn some languages. Her history can justify her knowing most of the languages to a degree.

Maybe I will take off Mon Calamari and Bothan. Ekade has not really been around people who speak those languages regularly. She was once married to a Zabrak and encountered many wookiees, rodians, and trandosians in the cantinas.

Something for me think about.

You can hit Ctrl-S and check your skill mods. For languages you know, you have +100 to comprehension and +100 to speech. If it's not there, you don't know it.
