I am a big fan of the guild war system to make events work properly. Attackable 24/7? Thats realism. I plan on exploring the use of temp guilds and guild wars to create interesting circumstances and perhaps surprise attacks in future events.
On Sunday night my event went exactly as planned (except for Nyase arresting me). A guild war was secretly activated and we banned the entire guild from entering their own guild hall to turn it off. Of course you ahve to have at least one inside character to do this. The guild war system does not send out mail notifications unlike most other guild events.
It was perfect, there could be no escape and no resolution unless the guild members used the /guildremove command. It could have lasted for days if need be OR (and this is important to note) if I did not know the people I was fighting better - it could have become a CSR issue.
Its really a double-edged sword. But when used right, I think it is a worthy tool.

I've often pondered about an RP utopia where everyone was attackable. I do think this would all a great deal of immersion. Of course, you would only want roleplayers in this group because the d00d crowd would grief 24/7.
The guild system would were here because you could just boot anyone who abuses the system or breaks the rules.

People entering this group would have to be highly screened.

Pretty much everybody on the boards here is guilded, right? Let's just all declare war on each other and see what comes of it.
Would players be able to resist the temptation to just smack someone? Hmmm.....

Sounds like you have the beginnings of a new reality show there Dooo. I am willing to bet that the guild war system would end up being abused WAY too much to be worthwhile. Maybe its just me being pessimistic, but I can see someone deciding that 'the world is out to get him/her' and going absolutely nuts on people.

I think it'd be an interesting experiment. It would certainly make things very delicate in a crowded social situation not to double click on people.

Once people get over their initial giddyness, I am sure they can keep themselves under control.
Remember, we are roleplayers. We should not be attacking people just because they are "red". Dwilah would not suddenly become rabid and attack me for no reason other than the fact that she could. (or would she?)
I am liking this idea more and more. It allows for more realism. Ex: Colonel Haunter wants to stop someone from committing a crime. Under this concept, he can.
Like Novall said, we'd have to screen people and make sure that everyone in the participating guilds are 100% on board.

Unless we're actively using a weapon it shouldn't be equipped, thereby reducing the potency of players' attacks. It should also reduce the consequences when someone accidentally double-clicks. As RPers we all know this and most of us stow them in non-combat situations (except for them damned TKAs and their knucklers, think we can't see em

). But the main thing I see that won't allow something like this to happen is that it requires 100% participation from each guild. Getting everyone to agree to this would be very difficult, and I wouldn't want to FORCE anyone to take part - that would be griefing.

Oh there certainly are problems with this concept. More and more people will be showing up buffed to RP events.
In an RP sense, buffs have always rubbed me the wrong way. I have seen situations where the someone walks in fully buffed and acts a lot more belligerent then they normally would because they know they can defeat any of the non-buffed individuals. That's not RP, that's metagaming.

Buffs for RP rub me the wrong way depending on who it is that is buffed. If I were to show up to an event and see, for instance, Alonzo buffed, I would think something was going down. However, I know that some people get buffed for reactionary reasons. For instance, there was a certain "RP'er" who would show up buffed and overt to RP events on the off chance that some Imperials would show up overt (which Nyase and I usually are). He would come deleberately to start a fight.
Either way, on the always attackable system...

A room full of red dotted role players? That would be like a first snort of cocaine, once you start you won't stop. I mean think about Coiyonite trying to show up to that. If nobody killed me first, I guarantee the guys with <MidCo> above there head would be on fire as quickly as I could pull out the flame gun.
I think this is a cool circumstance in limited and controlled situations. But I am a big enough of a person to admit that I would be too tempted to grief, not just because of IC reasons but I would pick fights for the adrenaline rush. I love PvP but what I love even more than PvP is the element of surprise. Which is why Sunday night's event was my most memorable night in SWG to date.
All you'd need is a commando with one good area damage grenade or rocket pointed at the stage and the music would be done.

LOL.. I think you just need to get that out of your system. Plus.. if people griefed like that the whole thing would fall apart in a hurry.
I must admit, I do get a charge when looking at a red dot opponent. I start thinking about what foods I should eat and what attacks I would use.. LOL. I have this problem where I think I can kill anyone, even though I know it is not true. My mind speaks to me and says, "Ekade, you might just win if.."
Besides, if you like PVP, why arent you all over the all but dead Fight Night idea?

I know!!! Always attackable would make it so you can't just walk past that stormtrooper with a carbine in your face.
It makes everything so much more..
*draws a deep breath and exhales loudly*
..REAL!!
The way they do this on Chimera is they have guilds that form the "War Ring". Each guild has it own internal rules, but they all abide by an agreed upon conduct so the system will work. Failure to comply results in expulsion from ones guild. This limits griefing.
