I'm new to ranged combat and someone told me that I should get "powerups". I know they can be crafted. How/why should I use these?
On a related note, I've heard that Vercupti or Ahiza is better than canape. I've personally always stuck with the Canape for mind but I'm hearing this other stuff might be more potent?
Can anyone advise on this?
Can anyone tell me how powerups work?
There are lots of different kinds of pups (short for Power Ups). They increase speed, range, min/max damage, and lower ham cost. You just have to figure out which one is right for you when you go to buy em.
Vircupti and Ahiza are really good to use. Mainly becaue Vercupti boosts your primary HAM to 1k or more, and Ahiza is 700+ focus for around 30-40 mins. Sure you can eat two canape and have 1400 wil and focus, but wouldnt you rather have an extra 1k mind and 700 focus? Remember if you down some really goof brandy you can get another 900 or more mind, will and focus. Add in the dancer and musician buff as well as TKA meditate and your gonna be at around 3-4k mind. Now toss in some Muon.
Your mind is gonna be so high that the Emperor himself is gonna call you to find out your secret.

On Powerups:
Powerups are crafted by Artisans and their bonuses vary. Most of the ones you'll find give increase to min/max damage and speed while others can mind cost, health cost, etc.
These powerups are single items that you can drag and drop on to your weapon to boost their stats. The Powerups only last for a limited amount of uses, stated in the stats I believe, and wear down the condition of your weapon much faster.
There are 3 types of powerups: Melee Weapon Powerups, Ranged Weapon Powerups and Grenade Powerups.
On Canape:
Vercupti enhances Health, Action and Mind by 375-600, Ahiza enhances Focus from 150-250 and Canape enhances Focus 255-375 and Willpower 255-375.
So most folks don't use Vercupti because Buffs take care of Health and Action anyway and Ahiza doesn't have too much point to it since Canape gives you a better Focus Buff plus Willpower to boot. I'd stick with Canape for the long haul. Combine it with good buffs and good armor and you'll be a killin' machine.

If your Vercupti is only doing 600...then your using trash. The stuff they sell in Lost City does 1k or more.Seret Sajet wrote:On Powerups:

I found this handy page for chef stuff.

Also, powerups are okay. In my experience with ranged (as a Master Pistoleer, with BH pistols 4, and Smuggler DF 4) I can't say that I used powerups often at all. Maybe for PvP or duels, or some extra oomph before an important mob takedown. They tend to not last very long. Not very cost effective for grinding, that's for sure. One powerup lasts about one and a half quenker lairs (in my experience), but that's at the speed cap and firing very fast. There's certainly no downside to using them. They're cheap.
Powerups number one use these days tends to be for...uhhh....*cough*slicing*cough*. Not that I know anything about that, though.

There is a downside to using power ups. They make yer weapon decay at a faster rate while equiped.
This is especially true for rifles, as there's a hyper decay bug right now while using power ups on rifles. Avoid power ups on yer rifles like the plague right now, unless ya can have no worries replacing the costly lovelies. I've nearly lost all three of my guns in one night before I found out about this bug.

Excellent advice, everyone! This helps clear things up a bit. Right now I'm considering either Rifleman or Commando. If choose Rifleman, I definately will not be using the powerups.

Gaarlow, are you sure about that decay thing? I keep my rifles powered up and they seem to decay at the normal rate for me.
If this is true, though, this is great advice, especially for Nyase. He doesn't have the money to replace rifles left and right, and he's certainly not buying T21s by the crate like a certain Imperial Colonel who posts on the boards.

Hey go both! Ya gotta master Marksmen for Commando anyway.Gallon Dell wrote:Excellent advice, everyone! This helps clear things up a bit. Right now I'm considering either Rifleman or Commando. If choose Rifleman, I definately will not be using the powerups.
But I will say Commando and Riflemen where my two favorite professions that I had to drop in the past. They both give you great firepower, though both at slow speeds, and some variety in your damage types. Commando most of all because with Grenades you actually get the only weapon that does decent cold damage, the cryoban grenade.
I'm just more of an in-your-face combat fan so brawler is my template 100%.

I know what you mean. My first master combat profession was TK. I gave that up at one point to (foolishly) pursue my holo profession of Bounty Hunter.Seret Sajet wrote:I'm just more of an in-your-face combat fan so brawler is my template 100%.
Going from "in your face can of whoopass" to "run like hell from even the weakest of creatures" was no fun at all.
I miss TKM a lot, but Fencer has a nice feel to it for Ekade.

Even though melee is ultra powerful, I'm personally going to stick with ranged weapons for a while. I started off as a pistoleer/BH pistol because I thought it was a good fit for my character. An officer would have a sidearm.
I eventually moved to rifle, but I still like ranged combat.

Well, it looks like the thread in the profession forums is now unstickied, so maybe they fixed it. I only check those boards once a month, so I'm not the most informed on these things.TramelRaggs wrote:Gaarlow, are you sure about that decay thing? Might wanna keep an eye on it, just in case, though.
