Hutt pilots?
Ok, I'm trying to do the Hutt missions for Privateer. I go to the guy in Mos Eisley and head out for my first mission, and the ship they give me can't even get through the shields on the Black Sun ships and I get wasted. Ok, I figure I'll make my own ship. I build a Scyk the only ship I can fly, I've got lasters that are about 350-450dmg and get some proton torpedo's 9 for 650-1000 dmg. I barely make the first mission and then I didn't even stand a chance on the second, is it really suppose to be this hard? Any suggestions? I just can't get through the shields quickly enough on the black sun and can only use cert I equipment.

Suggestion: Join Black Sun and see if Xizor will give you one of those.
I wanted to follow that up with something constructive, but I'm not sure what the problem is. Some mission types are harder than others... when you're workin' on the first box in a tier - you might wanna stick to the mission that works for you (unless you can assemble a group).
New thought: Hutt missions? I started with Talon Karrde in Mos Eisley. Are the hutt assignments supposed to be higher tier? Try the guy in Wuher's back room at the cantina and see if those suit you better.

yeah I'm using the first guy in the cantina. I just can't get through those shields. Even with the torpedo's are my weapons really that bad?

4 missions each? I'm at Valarian now and I only get three options: Escort, Hijack, and "Patrol". She didn't give me any particular missions like Karrde did. With only three listed, am I on my way to trouble - or just need to be patient. Also, how do I complete these missions. It seems like the waypoints just keep coming.
P.S. I have incredibly bad Valarian faction. Could this be an ingredient to a difference?

nope, those are the "looping" missions, they just go on and on...they are a way to get xp without searching all over the place....Glacial wrote:4 missions each? you get the REAL missions when you have enough xp to filla box...then she gives you a tier mission to complete...once you complete the mission, you can get a box and move on...

Ok, I guess what I'm looking for was did anyone else have any trouble with the first patrol missions for the Hutt faction? If not did you use your starter ship? If you did have trouble what did you do to get through it? I mean it makes me several minutes to blow a Tier 1 black sun ship up and that's with using proton torpedo's. Also I've looked for more Tier 1 equipment to try to improve my ship but I've found no weapons with better damage then the 350-450 I have now, everything else tends to max at 350.
Now I'll try making some Ion Cannon's when I get home and sticking them on instead of my light blasters but does do the Ion's actually damage the ship? I thought they just disabled ships but couldn't destroy them. If this is the case then I believe a Syck can only have one set of blasters so I'd be unable to equip blasters as well so again would be unable to destroy the black sun ship.

just to let ya know hash i used my starter ship from novice to 1/1/1/1 and you can too you just need to target the ships engines by pressing the [ ] keys when you target them
Ok, I'll try this tonight, don't you still need to penetrate their shields? The problem I've had is when I've got a ship targeted I fire away but their shields must regenerate faster then I can damage them thus I'm wasting my time. I'll throw a proton torpedo at them and then I can get in a little damage but that's about the best I can do. It's getting their shields low enough to hit them, if targeting a specific area avoids this then that maybe my problem. Thank you for the advice and I'll try that tomorrow night when I'm on again.

ion cannons dmg shields more than armor (usually 70%/30%), so you could cut through the shields then get to the stuff underneath faster
also using concussion missiles cuts shields
also using concussion missiles cuts shields

If you're making your own guns (and I highly suggest the blaster/ion cannon combo) try maxing out experimentation in "Energy Per Shot." This makes a big difference when it comes to draining your capacitor too quickly. Dump the rest of your experimentation points in Max Dmg, Min Dmg or Rate of Fire, your prefrence.

I don't think the Scyk can have a combo. I've got blasters loaded and I don't think it will let me add another such as the Ion cannon. I just can't understand what the problem is which is why it's so frustrating. I've got some good suggestions here though to try out so even if I have to try them all at least I have some options here.
