On the contrary, I'm as big a comic fan as I am a Star Wars fan.

But I've come to realize putting my favs into a top 10 list is too hard. I can't say if I like one more than the other. For a couple sure, but others its harder to rate them. Then there is the comic book characters like Spider Jerusalem, Sandman, John Constatine and Jesse from the Preacher that are my favs but not really Super Heroes.

But I'll give a Top 5, I think I can manage that.

5. Spiderman

4. Superman

3. Flash

2. Wolverine

1. Batman

Noteworth- The Dragon? (I believe Image does this comic about the Dragon cop, he's pretty cool. Also there was a sort of batman like Image character with silver armor that was also very cool.)

The Savage Dragon by Erik Larsen. Used to be one my favorite books, also still is one of my favorite artist. Not just for his style but because he is the most dedicated creator of an image book. He drew and wrote every single issue of the Savage Dragon and even when Image did an artist swag for fun and Jim Lee did a Dragon issue he went back and did one of his own under the same number to stay consistant. Must respect for that guy.

The Batman-esque character from Image you're probably talking about was Shadowhawk by Jim Valentino. He was just some average vigilante who broke villians backs so they could never commit another crime. Good idea but the book really never stood out among the rest. It didn't last too long either.

I can't really put my favs into a top 10, but I was always pulled to the darker heroes...I have not collected comics in years, cuz I was blowing too much cash on it...it was like crack and I had to quit cold turkey

so here's some of mine, off the top of my head, in no particular order (except Spawn, he'd be my fav):

Spawn
Ghost Rider (the more recent version)
Uncanny X-men (not the newer stuff, say issue 140-220ish, I loved the John Byrne issues, even picked one up that was signed by him and the dealer hadn't seen it)
Daredevil/Electra(frank miller run)
Dark Knight (frank miller again)
the various anti-heroes of Sin City (Frank miller yet again)
Hellboy (mignola)

I'd probably have to go into my boxes for others, but then I might be tempted by the dark side again

Here's some thing to consider too since some cann't deside. What comic book charater do you feel would be on your top 10 if only they had a good writer or artist.

I'd have to pick Marvel Comics Dark Hawk. This character had this amulet that turned him into an armor clad super hero with metal wings that came out of his sides and up his arms like the Spider-Man villian the Vulture. I loved the concept but one the design was very lacking, the writing wasn't all that great, and it never had a really good artist on it. I did pick up a few issues here and there hoping that the potential I saw would come out but to no avail.

Good question. I think with a good writer anything could work.

Here's my big one.

Power Pack. Thats right I said Power Pack. The concepts were pretty reaching (power switching, stupid alien races, really young kids) and considering the book aimed for a much younger demographic than most comics its no suprise. When you take a popular concept like superheroes and drop it to toddler level you get burned (ex: Jar Jar). But what if there was a more mature twist to the characters?

I always wanted to write a story (and I actually wrote ten pages) for fun about Power Pack all grown up and how having super powers and super responsibilty at such a young really fucked them up tall. I mean we're talking eating disorders (coupled from the fact that a super hero always has to look fiit), sexual issues, anger issues and even total psychosis. Put the youngest of the group in the mid to late 20s age and go from there. I think if you really had very young kids with superhero jobs you'd end up with fucked up adults.

The story I began to write (mind you I'm not out to get published, this was just pure fun) was about a "Where are they now" TV and the researchers they sent out to get some facts. They only manage to find one of them, the oldest kid, who's a drunk and a deadbeat, and he begins to tell them the story of what happened to his siblings. He still has some contact with them all except one whom with the resources of the TV studio tracks him down.

In the end you see how screwed up their are but the very last Power Pack member they find is actually doing all right. He's a full-blown Superhero now, but in a more down-to-earth sense, and he's helping people. I wanted it to end that way, with a ray of hope to show that not all circumstances can ruin people and some can rise above it.

I'm not saying I'm a good writer and this story would make Power Pack cool, I'm just saying I love classic characters seen from a more mature angle. With a good writer you can take any lamo character, give him a dose of reality and BOOM you got something golden.

1 - Superman
2 - Batman
3 - The Guy fron Sin City

THE END

Batman is hands down the most compelling character in comics. When he is written well, there are no books who can top them. When he's written badly, he's still better than 90% of the stuff out there. I haven't seen a major story arc in Batman since Knightfall that I haven't liked. Dark Knight Returns? Sick. Dark Knight 2? Not as sick as the first, but still sick.

Superman is the quintecential superhero. You just don't get bigger or better than that. Say what you will about Spidey and Cap, but you don't get bigger than Big Blue. It just doesn't happen. He's not as compelling to me as Batman, but I had to put him at number 1.

Sin City = Frank Miller. Nuff said.

Everything else to me is bleh. I've tried so hard to give Marvel a chance and they disappoint me every time. The characters are cool, but the stories suck. The crossover made me hate Wolverine. They have so much potential, but they can never seem to pull the trigger.

Bite your tongue, son. You're treading on dangerous ground.
Anyone will tell you that is exactly the reason why they like Batman so much, because he has human skills that hold their own in an entire team of overly powerfull heroes. He's the shit and you gotta admit it.
