Who is going to EQ2
I have absolutely no desire to play EQ2 or any other fantasy based game. I love RPGing, but I'm barely making it through Baldur's Gate. Sure, EQ is the huge MMO, but where does it have to go from here? Let see, you have humans... elves... dwarves... mages... warriors.... fighting orces... spiders... dragons... etc. It's the same thing as 10 other games.
That just has no appeal for me.

Which is also why I am uninterested in WoW. those games don't appeal to me. SWG does. I'm stayin' put.

Im so glad ppl arent leaving or even trying both but i know of two so far that are and i must say that i told one of them that when they stop playing EQ2 alltogether i would not say"I told you so" cause i have played EQ,UO,Shadowbane and i must say that im all magic and sworded out! and i hope that those two people that i know are gonna play both SWG and EQ2 stop playing it quick cause they are good friends and id hate to see them barely on SWG cause they are grinding EQ2 lvls
I have friends who are going wild over it, and I'll be curious to go over and see what it looks like. But SWG holds my attention.

I played UO and fantasy just doesn't hold my interest anymore. So, no EQ2 for this pirate.

From friends in the know I've been hearing that Everquest 2 suffers from a similar situation that SWG did at this same stage (close to release) and that is the fervent clamoring by veteran and not-so-biased Beta Testers to hold back and not release the game yet.
Nearly to a man (and one woman) these friends are the same that tested SWG last year and fed me the scenarios telling me what the shortcomings were and what would be the things that would burn my butt the most. Once again, to a man, they hit it right on the head about Galaxies and earned my trust. For that main reason I won't be even dabbling in the EQ dimension, despite being a longtime fan of the "sword & sorcery" style.
On the other end of the spectrum is Worlds of Warcraft, which has enjoyed the nearly glowing approval from those same trusted friends and co-workers in my informal testers club. Their opinions were confirmed in my own mind when I was selected for WoW Beta a month before my JtL Beta invite (the Cuban coffee was flowing those nights  ).
WoW had the opposite reaction among most of the testers (including myself). "Hurry up! Put the game out already, Blizzard! It's sooo ready!"
To their credit, Blizzard never even came close to bowing to the pressure, vowing to fine tune a couple of minor quirks in 3 classes and really work on another one. Those final touches were made last week and the game has been slated for release on the 23rd of this month. No, it's not "perfect" but the simple fact that the game works goes along way with me.
I'll be buying it, but probably won't play it, at least not immediately. Why? Because as far as I can see right now JtL has delivered and I really pinned alot of hopes on JtL being one half of my SWG-saving process. Earlier in the year I told myself that if JtL wasn't the goods, then I'd be taking another hiatus from SWG, regardless of what else was out there.
Now the other half that I need to have come through for me is the Smuggler Revamp, Redesign, Overhaul or whatever it's being called this month. It'll be tough but I'm content to hang on until I can at least get some word from whomever ends up testing the new improved SWG Smuggler sometime next year (?) If it delivers, Galaxies will still have me. If not then I'll surely be packing up.
One thing's for sure though,. The tough call won't have to be made for some time yet. The Combat Upgrade is coming first (as it should) before Smuggler. Nobody twisted my arm, but it'll probably have been around two years after SWG Launch for my main draw to this game gets fixed up. If it's botched, my tank's empty. On to something new.

I do believe I will be trying this game. From what I have seen it looks fascinating. The genre may kill me it may not, I'd like to try it though. I never been much of a fantasy gamer in the past, but what the heck...

Not going EQ2 or WOW.
WoW looks too cartoonish.. something about that makes it hard for me to get into character.
EQ2... just not interested.

I am. I picked it up today. I played the first EQ from shortly after launch all the way through to last June, when I think I finally managed to pull the needle out of my arm once and for all.
I wasn't even aware it was coming out today until my buddy called me up yesterday telling me about it. I hadn't been real hot for it, and didn't plan on running out and getting it right away, although I did plan to eventually try it.
Still, I was drawn to it. As much as I like SWG, I always enjoyed EQ very very much. The whole game just had a different dynamic, and to me EQ and SWG mostly sit on opposite spectrums in terms of MMORPG framework. EQ is very group and guild-oriented, SWG is mostly a solo experience. EQ was predominantly loot-driven, while SWG is crafter-centric. Etc., etc.
Different parts of both games always appeal to me, and I'm curious to see how Koster tried to blend EQ2 into the best of both worlds.
I for one have to admit that for as much as I like SWG, and am a huge Star Wars nerd in general, I've never enjoyed it nearly as much as I did EQ. I shamefully admit that as recently as a couple weeks ago, I'd considered renewing my EQ account and playing it again, before ultimately deciding against falling off the wagon and uninstalling it from my harddrive instead. That game was harder to quit than crack.
Anyway, I see my SWG time probably diminshing. Actually it already has. With so much stuff coming out now, I just have too many games to play. First GTA:SA, and now Halo 2 and EQ 2. And Battlefield 2 is coming out soon as well, I believe. Woot! I probably won't be in game too much, but I'll still troll the forum here.
(and btw...I can be found on EQ2's Mistmoore server as Hamilcar for anyone else trying it out)

From what I've heard, the dances in EQ2 are exact copies from the one's in SWG. Flo's and everything.Ekade wrote:Not going EQ2 or WOW.

Its called re-usable code, and companies love it. That kinda sucks though espcially if you're coming from SWG to try something new.Isleh wrote:From what I've heard, the dances in EQ2 are exact copies from the one's in SWG. Flo's and everything.
