What view do you use when flying?
I found this very strange. I pretty much every other flying or vehicle driving game I prefer the third person/chase camera view. I can't even stand them in first person veiw for more than 10 seconds.
But in JtL I absolutely prefer First Person cockpit view with the cockpit viewable. I tried my normal 3rd person flying in Beta but cockpit view was the only one that suited me.
Maybe its because I like more realism in the game or because it seems to help me aim better. Dunno, its just strange to me.

Chase.
You basically see more of what is around you in that you are farther away from "yourself". It's the whole first person versus third person thing. More information is better.
Plus, in ships like the Y-wing, the cockpit eats up a TON of the view of space.. small windows and all.

I view inside the cockpit with no cockpit frame blocking. I like to be able to see the whole battle area when I fight. Privateers arnt really blessed with many unobstructed canopies (and if you've ever flown a Hutt Heavy Fighter...ugh).
For the feel its fun to ride around lookin at the inside. For the reality though you need a full view.

Chase Camera view behind ship.
- More overall visibility despite the ship scanner. (JtL space is beautiful. Why not make the most of it?)
- Chase view lends a cinematic feel to the experience. You get to see yourself, basically. (How exciting would the movies be if all the audience saw was Luke or Han's cockpit and scanner in a dog fight?)

To me third person just gets in the way in space, how can you see whats in front of you when your own ship is there?

I zoom all the way back so my ship is as small as possible in the view.Jabe Adaks wrote:To me third person just gets in the way in space, how can you see whats in front of you when your own ship is there?

Inside all the way baby. It feels strange to be looking at the ass end of my ship all the time...even though my Mizzou patterned black and gold kimo looks uber badass. How do I swivel the camera when in third-ship mode so that I can see my fighter from other angles in space?

During Beta, and any flying game I play. I play inside view, and if it's possible, without the interioir of the vehicle...

Inside the cockpit without the cockpit blocking the view 85%, zoom back to see the area around 15%. While the cockpit graphics are just fine for atmosphere, I never could stand the feeling of not seeing half of space around me. It's like looking at a picture of something vs. actually being there. Being in a cockpit doesn't feel the same as having to look at it covering my limited view. Zooming back and out has been useful to "check 6" now and again with that third eye. Again, were this VR and I could just spin my head around then I wouldn't need such a "trick," but it simulates that sense of awareness around you best - to me.

Last night I realized why I like the cockpit view with the ship frame showing. For me it simply adds a another way to frame up my target and keep them in sight. It sounds unnecessary but in space all that matters to me is the enemy I have in my sights. The frame keeps me focuses and minimizes other distractions.
But again this is all just a matter of prefrence.

I think the basic tactic is, you target the hell out of one guy and switch. Don't worry about whats around you, that why you buy armor.

When I can, I try to get a feel for my next target as I am blowing up the first. Sometimes the closest target is not the best. There could be another target flying right into your kill zone.. but the TAB key tells you to turn all the way around to blast the closest enemy.
I feel the 3rd person view accomodates this the best.
