Wait, they've got an active (yet closed) Combat Revamp Beta going on, and yet still no Smuggler Revamp?
I'm not even playing anymore, and I'm pissed.
Granted, combat effects more people than Smuggling, but uh, throw the Smugglers a frickin' bone here?

I know everyone thinks their profession should have the next big revamp, but the professions in the most dire straits are as follows:
Politician
Merchant
Droid Engineer
Squad Leader
Politician

Smuggler - im not even one and i know they need it
Squad leader- Specials in space would rock for them
Bounty Hunter- We need one badly LLC is worthless in PvP
Politician- cuase they are somewhat useless but arent real ones as well

DE got not one, but 2 publishes dedicated to them, and soe still didn't fix them... but with astromechs becoming a part that may change if they tweak some things...

the list and briefly why:
Squad Leader: no role should be more fitting to SW GCW era than this. Yet it is the most worthless class, sure its nice to have one along if its there, but there's NEVER a time another master prof wouldn't be more useful....one exception and coming in at #2
Ranger: this poor class had one thing, camps and camps have been made worthless. Tracking people is "ok" but they aren't bh's....anyway Ranger needs some role and right now they don't have one at all
#3, smuggler: this class isn't broken in the sense people arne't smugglers...just that...they don't SMUGGLE. Spices need a major overhaul much like chef food, underworld tree needs to be much more useful, i mean the first block "wow now i know every langauge...that was worth skillpoints....yeah...its not like i can do that for free in 2 minutes anyway" Slicing needs to be less random, not in how much it alters %-wise, but a smuggler should be able to choose speed or damage slice, and i want to see slicing be more than unlocking junk loot items and making uber combat gear.
#4 Politician: this class needs to have SOME enjoyment so that someone is mayor that isn't an alt or someone who has to sac. that many points just to help his friends. Because all the mayor features are boring "hey i can place this one item and there it sits for good" abilities. This is the most inactive profession that should be one of the most active ina bustling city. With this revamp should come paved roads in towns.
and #5: merchant another "necessary but horrible to be" class. Most are alts and again like politician the rare people who are willing to sac points, but its not a valid prof to be without either HEAVY rp to balance out its boring and horrid annoying features or a lobotomy.

I agree with mostly everything said here, but Droid Engineers really need to get some help. I know they had two "patches" dedicated to them, but you have to admit the "combat" droids were total jokes. Name one thing that they were better off with post patch.

Sure, 20m is a stretch but..
Realistically speaking, should a guy with with a gun be able to sprint at full speed and still be able to shoot accurately at someone behind him? I would think the act of aiming would slow them down a but an allow their pursuer a chance to catch up. *shrugs*

well, from what I hear...police train their officers to recognize that an assailant with a weapon like a knife or a club (or some other hand-held weapon) is a threat at about 11 meters. At least thats what the discovery channel special on "non Leathal Law Enforcement Technology" said. But I have no idea if that is factual or not. Somebody else know? If that is right, I think it makes sense that the 20m lunge should get toned down a bit.

Del'tar is right I have an uncle who's a cop and standard police trinning says that an asailant with a "melee" weapon is to be considered an imediate danger at 11m hence why when you watch cops the police are keeping a fair distance away from the guy with a clever.

Also to add to the range of melee...
In fencing, a lunge is technically lethal from 14-16 feet....
If a fencer is truly a good one, he can lunge about 10-12 feet in about a second...
Only reason I know so much about fencing is because a dude in one of my classes is a world class fencer...
P.S. Lunging is not necessarily one leap, it can be a series of long strides.
P.P.S. Watching a good fencing match, while really dorky/lame (whatever you want to call it) is really cool...

Careful what you say about fencing. I'm a closet fencer.
I fell in with a group that did foil and sabre fencing a couple nights a week. I can vouch for decent range, I could (pardon my misspelling) belustra into a redopio for a good 15-20 feet and mildly retain my guard. Not quite 20m, but I never checked my range against an opponent running away, that was kind of frowned upon
Just thought I'd share that nugget of nerddom. I recommend trying it for a short course if you get the chance. It's really entertaining and the weapons and masks are great props for conversation.
