MNF intro, what's all the hubbub?

I mean really, you see Nicolette Sheridan's naked BACK

oooooooh....scandalous......

and the intro came on at 9pm est, the same time all your nightime soaps come on with way more adult stuff than that...

I don't believe the NFL is clueless about these things (the latest flap and the janet jackson boob). Every game has cheerleaders in fancy bikinis shown at almost every break for tv...how is that any different?

what's next, no more Coor's Light twins on the NFL commercials?

I thought it was in poor taste to show that kind of debauchery in that timeslot. And I'm not talking about the nudity.

Basically, it was her attitude I didn't like. The out and out seducing of a football star just because she could, that getting naked in the locker room would finally sway him to have his way with her. That kind of crap is for Penthouse Forum. She doesn't even act THAT overt on her own damned show.

Also, I think the REAL controversy here is that they tried to use DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES to shill for Monday Night FOOTBALL.

I guarantee you the demographics are fairly exclusive.

well I didn't say it was/wasn't poor taste...bad press is good press right? and that's what they are going for...MNF ratings have been slumping for years, but I bet they're good next MNF...

and as far as attitude, how do you think the real chicks act that try and get to the football stars act, as they try to get picked up after a game or at the hotel...how else are they gonna get into the dude's room...I bet the stars real stories are worse than the tv intro :)

I dunno, I don't think the interracial thing is a shock factor for anyone anymore. Seems pretty main stream to me, maybe except in the south.

In this particular instance, I think the main problem was that audiences who might usually watch football with their kids and/or as an alternative to the type of shows like Desperate Housewives that was being cross promoted were put off by the skit. It's not the timeslot so much as people aren't used to seeing a copy of a porno lead-in scene preceding Monday Night Football.

To some parents, enjoying a game with their young children might be one of the few tension free moments that they can manage together. They weren't expecting to have to explain a saucy skit before kick-off to a kid that may not have the sense yet to get the joke.

To an extent, I have to agree. If you happen to be one of the more enlightened people on the planet then you probably wouldn't see any problem in interracial relationships and would also be surprised to know that your national peers are still uncomfortable with it. However, from personal experiences all over America with women of different ethnicity than my own, I've dealt with the negative side several times.

As I said though, "to an extent". If the skit was between Peyton Manning, a white player, and Nicolette Sheridan, I still think there would have been a controversy.

On a related note, I believe another general problem lies with the American cultural attitude toward sex overall, which has been demonstrated to be very hypocritical. Regardless of what a child's reaction may or may not have been to that football skit, in terms of adult national character we go from Puritanical strictness to down right nymphomania in the blink of an eye.

As was stated, look at the cheerleaders. Football has been selling sex for decades. The cheerleaders are still out there even in the cold weather games shake shake shakin' it.

I have to agree with everything you said up 'till this point. I've heard more than one person talk about the women in the beer ads and the cheerleaders as a supporting argument, and the problem is that it's actually a conflicting argument.

The same people who are complaining about the skit are the same ones who aren't complaining about the cheerleaders and the beer ads. Cheerleaders or girls in bathing suits are okay. They might be selling sex, but in reality, they're selling the female form. It's tasteful compared to what ran in front of MNF.

I'm sure a lot of people have a problem with the implied nudity (after all, it was only her back) in the timeslot (and in front of what was expected to be football), but I think most everyone (including myself here) has a problem not with sex, but how sex was portrayed in that scene. It wasn't between husband and wife, or even lover and lover.

It was the amoral seduction of a man who was trying to do the right thing. This wasn't a commercial that subliminally implies if you drink their beer hot women *might* show up on your doorstep, it directly and unconfusingly said "go ahead and leave your responsibilities behind and have sex with loose women, it's okay." It's the kind of stuff that belongs in Penthouse Forum, not at 8pm CST. As you said it yourself, it was a prelude to a porno.

At any rate, I'm just saying that cheerleaders and outright sexual seduction are two very different things.

I also stated that I thought it wasn't the time slot (primetime), but more the actual show that it preceded (MNF). If people are complaining about that little bit of a skit being in that time slot, then they've got alot more to complain about from shows going way back to Dallas and Dynasty over 20 years ago in that same time slot....3 and 4 times a week.

If it's really "amoral seduction" that they're uncomfortable with during that time then it must be comfortable saving one stick of furniture from a house on fire. It was out of context for the show, not the time.
