SW Canon knowledge (geekfest comin' out)

Post Reply
Curious. There's some people here who know their Star Wars.. what are some of the rarest/oddest sources you draw from?

For example, mine would be the Star Wars card game (like Magic, but with X-wings, the whole Mos Eisley Cantina, the Force, and the Emperor). There is loads of lore information there. If you wanna know about a smalltime character in the classic trilogies, I prolly got a card on it.

For example: the ISB agent someone mentioned in Episode IV is Col. Wullf Yularen - Tarkin's aide and assigned to ensure loyalty to the Emperor. Will stop at nothing for the Emperor's will.

Any other good sources ya'll got?

this is stickied and invaluable

also this is a good, little known book

the star wars diplomatic corp entrance exam
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... ce&s=books

what it is, is an exam book from 1997 that covers info from movies, books, etc...and it is tough...I had read ALL the books up to that point, and I ranked third when finished...if you think you know your SW, go give it a try

I find that my best source for info (especially when I'm researching something for a story arc or event in SWG) are the old West End Games RPG books. When you start looking through them, you realize that the Devs took a lot from those books (the art for the tangle pistol in the WEG books is the same as what's in SWG). I have just about every one that was printed.

The Decipher tradeing card game cards are great too.

LOL.. OMG.. I just posted almost the exact same thing in the "hello" thread from that new imperial intelligence agent.

Mainly books, web-sites, and more books. Theres alot of debate over what actually constitutes "cannon". Movies, or movies plus EU material.

Speaking of.. What do you all consider cannon? Just movies? Movies and books? What George Lucas says only? Or everything?

Personally, I like the Dark Horse Comics, books, and movies. And though Star Wars Tales was a great read, I don't consider it cannon 'til issue 21. And no, you can't touch my marvel comics run of Star Wars, as they're worth more than your lives.

I have to say movies, books, the West End Games books, the unofficial SW encyclopedia and the comics.

Comics are probably the shakiest source for me. While some stories are just plain bad and not worth using as refrence some are quite good and stand out among the rest. I dig most of the stories in the current issues of Star Wars Tales and right now they have made great refrence for events.

I consider cannon to be the movies.. the West End Games sources, and little else (though I did like the Heir to the Empire books).

I have not consumed may other books, and have never touched the comic books.

Based on my concept of that is "cannon", I will accept any player created stuff that fits with my vision of SW "reality". Especially my own. :D

While I must give the Unnofficial SW Encyclopedia its due props for being so damn extensive, I find it hard to get a concentrated amount of information on any one topic. Are there any other sites out there that have in depth descriptions of SW "stuff" that is more than just a two sentence blurb?

Based on my experiences, no. I was doing research on Twi'lek religion and culture and found squat. I have come up with more stuff on the topic than I was able to find on the internet.. and I am extremely lazy.

The West End Games books are great for info on the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. There is not as much info on aliens.

At one point we were considering making a RP guilde to the playable races.. but you know how that goes. :D

My sorces are as follows from most used and down.

1. The Books (read every thing except last 2 X-Wing books, Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, Tales from Jaba's Palace, and Dath Maul: Saboture)

2. Star Wars Role Playing Game-Wizards of the Coast verson(Have all of then except adventure hooks and the Outer Rim Source Book)

3. The Movies (I loved the original trillogy but the prequell stuff really sucks wind).

The new Star Wars rp game is prety extensive and easy to refrence but doesn't have as much out as West End Games did before they lost the licens. The Ultamate Alien Anthology is a great source for the speices and I may be tempted to post excepts here if anyone would want it.
