Serious Gut Check Question

Would You Still Be Playing Galaxies If It Wasn't Based On Star Wars?

In it's past and present state, if this game was "Galaxies" without the Star Wars lore backing it up, I probably would have tried it and dropped it after 30 days max. For my part, I freely admit to myself that I've "paid & stayed" mainly:

- because of the Star Wars angle

- because of the potential of what it hasn't become

- inertia ("Well...as long as I'm here..")

For what those reasons are worth, they are honest.

Without the Star Wars phenomena behind it how long would you have stayed with this game?

For all the views that I've heard so dilligently expressed here and in other places, this is one question that I haven't seen touched upon.

A serious question that has crossed my mind as any other that we'd post. There's no static here so any that comes will be imported. Just a straightforward question. I'm wondering about other honest reasons.

I'm in agreement. If it wasn't for the Star Wars theme, I wouldn't be playing the game at all. The potential is there to make a great game(which I think all of us have been waiting for) and create a strong identity like the EQ community. I would love to see more quests that aren't designed for uber people and are more fun. I have no desire in creating mandalorian armor so I can look like Boba Fett(though it would be sweet to own a Firespray). Give us some more ground content! EQ is always getting expansion packs and we don't get anything at all for the ground game. We did get JTL but that was planned from the beginning.

I will give EQ players this: their community rocks. Our SWGtales community is the best in this game. If it weren't for the community on this board, I wouldn't be playing the game. Thank you everyone!

Same here, I never would have picked up on this title if it wasn't Star Wars. Before SWG I had absolutley no interest in playing an MMORPG. I could not grasp the idea of paying a monthly fee to play a video game online with a bunch of people. Before this all my online play was with free games like Battlefield 1942. That was enough for me.

Then I heard about SWG coming out in the distant future and I followed its progress best I could. It was Star Wars that hooked me while the details of the game fed the interest. In the end the whole package has me hooked but it this was game was exactly like it is now with a generic Sci-Fi theme I doubt I would of even started it.

I wish they would recruit about 10 people from the community to work with em when it comes to content. It makes me really sad to know that a game with this amount of possiable creative content is literally stagnate.

I only started playing out of peer pressure then I got addicted. :) It could be Star trek Galaxies for all I care and I stiull would be playing just cause I am having fun. If you have read my recent Everquest post then you know that I have come to realize that SWG is the best MMO out there hands down.

I was never a huge SW fan, so I know I'd still be playing without the Star Wars name. I just happen to like a game with a self sustaining economy, player cities, 36 professions (not including the Jedi) and basic dependancy on other characters. I can safely say that SWG is that most immense and in-depth game I've ever played.

I was never really into the hole multiplayer online roleplaying video games so I definetly would not be here with out the Star Wars theme, but lets say I was. If this was anything but Star Wars I would have left after my first month. When I first started there was next to no roleplaying in this game for me and it was all about grinding out my professions. The game wasn't all that fun except for the ocasional group hunts goin after NPC jedi or Rancors. I would have swiftly left and never looked back.

However, now that I'm part of this web group I have much more to look forward too. Kinda sad in a way. I have to look to a fan sight to make me want to stay in a game. The developers isn't even puting a 10th of the effort we do here and that is truely sad.

Star Wars is the only reason for me...Never played Everquest or any of the others. Worlds of Warcraft looks cool as hell, but I prefer Sci-Fi.

...wouldn't have touched it without George Lucas seal of approval. That being said:

After the release of JtL, this is the game I've dreampt about since my 4-color CGA monitor, Microprose F19 and the original Dark Forces. All I wanted was freedom, tools for my imagination to work with, and a space element.

I think it's all here with some really pretty visuals. As long as they keep working to improve the core, which they are doing in my opinion, we'll just keep finding people to make content. I have so many ideas to use the existing missions and POI's, but just not enough time to do them.

I am in the exact same boat as Seret. For the longest time, the concept of paying a monthly fee to play a game that you already had to buy for a standard game price was crazy to me. I remember the first time someone told me about Asheron's Call. I was standing in Best Buy and I thought the guy was the biggest idiot in the world. I mean, you can play any other game online and it doesn't cost you a dime. Why would I pay to do the same thing?

Well, I heard that there was a Star Wars one coming out and all bets were off. I'd actually find myself asking people in Babbages about the release date. I was interested. I got my copy and I've been playing since launch. If this wasn't a Star Wars game I would have never bought it, let alone kept paying for it.

The most ironic thing is that Star Wars is the only thing making me play this game, but Star Wars is also my biggest gripe with the game. I can play this game day in and day out, and only rarely do I feel as if I'm in the Star Wars Universe. Rancors are jokes. Jedi are everywhere. The Empire is nonexistant. It's like Star Wars in the Bizarro World.

Like Novall said I am not much into scifi games just SW. I would still be in BF 1942 killing people with me No.4 rifle scope settled on their large heads. I tried other MMORPG's like city of heros and FF 11 I think it is and I never could get any fun out of it. I cannot roleplay in eaither of them.
