Have fun on vacation! We'll keep the RP warm for you.

I'm planning on visiting Mos Tera on Wednesday after your guild meeting. Speaking of.. I need to harass Raelyn and Misha-lina to get on here again. :)

Roba Highlights:

Someone offended Jeann D'Arc by speaking to her in the "slave language" of Ryl. I did not hear about this until later. I probably would have gotten into a heated debate with her over this. Don't let a Priestess hear that the children of the Goddess are not allow to use their own language. Speech is a gift of the Goddess and we are meant to use it.

There was something going on with her entorage (sp?) but I was not able to overhear what was going on.

Lires was either attempting to RP or just looking for attention. He cracks me up but some people can't stand him. I gave him a little attention to appease him and so he would not go and bug everyone.

I engaged in a little RP with Lazaren Vex. He seemed interested in opening up some RP and I played along. I usually try to follow up when I get the feel that someone is trying to "hook" me. He may be someone who is trying to get into more RP so keep him in mind.

There was a reported Jedi disturbance outside. Marit told me about the incident later as I was inside dancing at the time. I saw some of the other OvT folks there as well. They are always good to talk to.

Spoke briefly with Eryn Greywolf. He is a wondeful roleplayer that I never seem to spend enough time with.

Personally, last night at the Crazy Roba left me a little cold. The Crazy Roba that I first encountered in early March of this year was a refreshing mix of sublte intrigue, engaging personalities, and knockout entertainment. It reminded me, and others that are fans of the Roba, of Rick's Cafe Americain, immortalized in the film Casablanca.

While last night was not a total turn off, and I don't expect each Roba visit to be a stellar affair, lacking that I'd prefer understated to the 5-fights-in-an-hour, Lires Wavingstrider-infested event that took place last night. I'm not trying to offend anyone, but the Roba was much more "chill" from what I remember and the "ruckus count" doesn't need to be that high for the sake of "excitement".

For example, some of the things that could have been lower in profile:

1 & 2.) There is a RP story arc in progress involving 2 Jedi assigned to bodyguard a person in danger. For whatever reason, the Jedi duo came to the Roba in Jedi attire (*sigh*), lightsabers equipped (not activated). While they were ready for action surely, their blatant disregard for disguise left them targets for any and all loyal Imperials present to do their duty. This isn't the best move for bodyguards concerned for their charge's safety, imo. The result was 1.) lightsabers being activated and used inside the club and 2.) a tense faceoff outside soon after.

I'm not faulting the Imperials for responding the way they did. Harrassing the Jedi is their mandate and I was impressed with the RP of most of them. Marit, in particular, gave her eyewitness account after a little encouragement. Personally, my character reacted with disbelief at what he had witnessed and skepticism that the Jedi were anything more than an old bedtime story for children.

3 & 4) There was an incident where one character was incapped by his character's brother twice for the same "offense". Supposedly, the motivation was the guy being upset about his failing relationship with his girlfriend and wanting to vent his anger on whoever. Cool premise, but two incapps I think was overdone.

5.) some other thing that I didn't quite get the details on (different from what Ekade mentioned already). I just remember hearing blaster fire and Unarmed sound effects from somewhere...

And last and deserving of least, if Lires Wavingstrider is RP'ing the village idiot, he has my vote for the RP Award. If he wants to dance around in the Roba, fine, let him audition for a spot in The Kreetles. But he shouldn't purposefully grief the roleplay of others (he did it twice to me). I'd welcome him in a roleplaying exchange or even out of character, but if this continues I'll be lobbying Alonzo Odantis (or whomever is Dohrian Mayor) for banning him from the town, at least on Roba nights.

I'm glad that RP is gaining more notice in the Roba and I've got nothing against roughnecks. Keer can turn it up with the best of them, but the Roba is a more mellow venue. It's where Keer first found solace from the hectic nature of his more "roughneck" pursuits. Surgeons don't go the emergency room to relax.

As for Scum & Villainy Night? Great, bring all of your demons for "pass in review". Let's see all those beings who have "the death sentence in 12 systems".

Once again, I'm not chastising anyone (not even Lires, unless he keeps it up), but that was my take on last night at the Roba.

And yes, I left my "make-sure-you're-logged-in" skills at the Roba too. :-(

All of your points are valid.

Unforunately every Roleplayer will have a different opinion of that constitutes good roleplay.

I am always concerned about sloppy roleplay, but it is impossible to avoid unless you put yourself in a very tight, closed group.

I am torn between 2 thoughts. One being to evangelize RP to the masses and try to get everyone involved. The other to remain in a small, closed group of roleplayers. I guess I spend a little time in both worlds.

I think the best thing we can go is encourage good RP, and lead by example.

Well, here's to hoping "S&V Night" will bring some balance to what I hope the Crazy Roba will return to being.

Yes, i apologize for not being there to control Lires. Acantho likes to act as if he's in charge and sets the rules and is big boss man, up until it comes time to pay the band, advertise, or do anything "work" related about maintaining the roba.

He wants the cake but doesn't wanna help bake it.

Sorry guys, yes fights became more common when i had some rp lines with having bounties on me and such. However I want the more chilled atmosphere back as well.

I view the roba as a place to meet those contacts and begin those plotlines than as a place to fight them out. I should have realized having my old fights there would encourage more. The fact that no one will accept duels from the guards doesn't help

Anyway, glad most are still enjoying...

In my own opinion, it is extremely distracting to the main event when you have combat happening at an event that isnt condusive to combat. I've never went to the Roba looking for a fight as my point to go...but I have gone with "other then honorable" intentions, all RP based.

Once you start opening the door to fighting ect, then your basically telling everyone to come act anyway they want. It may not seem that way, and yes it does take away some of the dynamics of the RP...but it saves your rear, and keeps people happy and coming back.

If a plotline revolves around someone fighting, killing, ect...then it needs to be kept outside of the venue to keep from upsetting those in the venue or involving those in the venue who dont want to be involved.

I know i've went as far as banning people from my homes during past events in other games because their actions were hurting the event. The actions of a small amount shouldnt be allowed to harm the enjoyment of the many, or the venue so many hold dear.

Just my opinion based on my past experiences :)
