Video games... Should they be movies too?

I was reading a review of a game I wanted to put on my Christmas list and saw that a movie company bought the film rights for the game. The page talks about a bunch of other movies that are being talked about, with the possibility of making them into movies...

I think it's kind of a neat idea, some video games are TOTALLY worth seeing put into a big screen production, but others not so much, like the ones mentioned on this page http://www.gamerankings.com/itemranking ... sid=141560. I was a big fan of the Resident Evil movies... Why not make other games into movies too...

What do you guys think?

Most video games have very deep and interesting stories. If you take those concepts and stories and combine them with a good writer/director you can have a good film. Now if you deviate from that story or concept and adapt it a little too mainstream you end up with a piece of crap. But then again thats how most films are ruined, by the studio.

So if a studio says, "Ok Mr. Talented Director, run with it." you might have yourself a sweet film. On the other hand if the studio says "Ok we like what you have so far but we think it needs more explosions, nudity, product placement, dismemberments, etc" then you have the makings of a film not even worthy of the Sci-Fi channel 4:00 AM time slot.

2. Mario Bros.
3. Mortal Kombat Annihilation
4. House of the Dead
5. Wing Commander
6. Street Fighter
7. Final Fantasy The Spirits Within
8. Tomb Raider
9. Tomb Raider 2
10. Resident Evil 2

I know opinions vary on some of these, but every one of us can find one on this list that they think was a mistake...probably three after reading numbers one and two. ;)

Oh, and I expect this list to expand greatly...as the trend continues.

I pretty much agree with Iago's list. Some had their merit but for the most part they were terrible.

But one stands out most of all in the supreme hatred region of my mind.

Street Fighter

That was enough for a big street fighter fan like me to make me want to kill a man. I don't mean quickly either, it made me want to kill with a wooden spoon. I'm talking serious dementia.
