Dwilah pummeled my a** - a space PvP discussion

Last night I had my first PvP experience in space. I didn't go into it expecting to win. That would be pretty foolish. I also didn't expect to be able to keep up with her speedy A-wing. Of course not! But I did expect my shields and armor to last more than 3 hits TO WEAK GUNS. I was effectively done after one pass. Is that how PvP is supposed to be?? Really??

I'm not a master yet, but I'm flying a tier 4 privateer ship (rihk) with better than average parts. It's currently built to take a punishment and deliver one (if I hit, heh). But it seems that that kind of ship is not feasible in PvP. Since Dwilah was able to cut through me with less than 2K damage guns, what's the point of bigger ones? Am I wrong or do you just have to be the fastest, most maneuverable ship out there to win? Cuz if that's the case, how in the hell does one use ANY privateer ship?

What was the stength on your shields? Did you get hit by a missile?

Also.. how did you guys PVP? I was under the impression that Privateer's could not declare.

I don't have stats, but there were no missiles involved. I'm using nearly all looted parts, around lvl7.

Target each other and type /duel. It works the same as on the ground. The duel went as follows...

a) Accept duel.
b) Turn and fly 500m.
c) Turn and face.
d) No missles.
e) Try to pull off before you disable opponent.

First off, not all looted parts are better than crafted. Especially guns, armor, and shields. Plus, I made the parts for Dwilah's ship for maximum effectiveness. If you went on a head to head pass with her, I'm not suprised she creamed ya. PvP in space is brutal...you have to outfly your opponent and not try to just slug it out with them.

Also...check out my post on ship weapons...max damage is not what you think it is...effectiveness vs armor and shields and power per shot are what make the difference.

What are the stats on Dwilah's weapons?

I tried PvP with Ekade a few days after JTL came out and my experience was the same - I was blown out of the sky in 2-3 shots.

That's cool.. I will have to somehow convince Zannon to help me out too. Last time I tried I got picked on.

Seems to me, based on the average damage and effectiveness of shields and weapons that PvP in space is fairly short. Your average Mark III gun does around 2300 max damage with a .5 effectivness against shields (with dual weapons and armor/shield experimentation that effectivenss is around .6 - .7). Your average Mark III shield gen only goes as high as around 1500 points. That means you will get shredded. That applies to Mark IV and Mark V weapons and shields as well. Shields just aren't made to withstand evenly matched weapons from a player's ship.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Dwilah is a very good pilot...better than most I've seen. She also targets her opponents' components to cripple them quickly, so she can then finish them off after all threats are disabled. Targeting a ship's reactor will put it out of a fight quicker than just targeting the ship.

Fellers...

It sounds to me like we have the makings of our very first PvP space tourney...

screw rules, ship mismatches and the like...lets just do it...

We make a list of participants. Everyone on the list fights everyone on the list...total up win/loss percentages and make a bracket...then we do it like NCAA hoops.

Anybody wanna set this up? I am a terrible planner :D

I have to back up Zannon's point, Dwilah is one hell of a pilot. She won't admit it but I've flew a few missions with her and she cleaned house quick. Though that still doesn't mean in PvP she should be able to take out Dooo is just a few shots. What it should mean is the PvP space battles should last a good amount of time between players so they are more fun and exciting.

Maybe eventually the devs will give players a sort of Damage Mitgation to their ships that effects PvP more than it effects PvE. Something to hope for in the FAR FAR future I guess.
