Zan and I talked about this today briefly on the phone.
I'm not going to register for the Beta because playing in the regular SWG Beta really killed SWG for me the first couple of months.
I was soooooo used to the combat balance and the grind XP from the Beta, that when I got to the regular "launch" SWG, not only did I have to start over from scratch, but any skill grind took twice as long to do.
I want JtL to be fresh for me when it comes out. I will, of course, ask any and all JtL Beta people newb questions incessantly, however. ;)

I registered for one reason...and that's only because I'm a sneeky bastard with an agenda.

I registered, can't wait. I haven't been in a beta program since Windows 95..

Eh, I would regester, but my location makes playing a bit difficult. Think I'll just stick to getting on the main when I can.

I'll give everyone fair warning...Beta testing is not as fun as you'd think, because when the game goes live you have to start all over again from scratch. There's also a lot of character wiping in beta and server downtime when you want/can play. And bugs...good god, the bugs!! It can be VERY frustrating for very little reward. Take it from me, I was in SWG beta for 6 months, it ends up being more work than fun. Ask Skarr and X'an, I"m sure they'll agree with me on this.

Yeah, I'm not beta testing. Once, when I was 17, I got what I thought would be the dream job of a game tester. It was horrible. Buggy game, I'd always try to duplicate what I did to make the game mess up, doing the same thing over and over and over and over...

Yes, I think I will pass on the Beta as well.
This does make me start to think how the ability to pilot ships will affect my character.
OOC I want to play in space and see what it is like.
IC Ekade has no clue about piloting a spacefaring vessel. She is a dancer from a planet not known for it's knowledge of space.
Gah, another dilemma.

I've already had to do this math with my character. The Colonel needs a transport shuttle. He won't be flying any TIEs and if all they have for Imp spacecraft are fighters, then I'll have to get a neutral ship.Ekade wrote:This does make me start to think how the ability to pilot ships will affect my character.
I originally thought about this after the Tusken Raid on Mos Eisley, when, while walking back to the city, I shot some random spawn. One of the Stormtroopers turned to me and said "Please Colonel, don't stress yourself. We'll take care of any hostiles." That got me thinking more and more that the Colonel shouldn't be fighting unless it's absolutely neccessary (which I plan to add on to more with the Skara Brae event).

I've only beta tested once and I had a good experience with it. Rather than from home a friend of mine and I went to Capcom's offices in Woodfield and helped test a pinball game. We just stood around with Capcom's marketing people, game developers and a few other employees and played this soccer-based pinball game all night. They paid for the pizza and drinks and we just played and chatted it up. It was pure fun.
Then again that is nothing like beta-testing a PC game at home. I'm sure being told to just walk around a planet for 4 hours and check for collision detection problems is not very fun.

Oh good god yes. I had a lot of fun, but good god, I go from not having any skills past 3 ithe Marksman tree and I can solo a Faamba, to having IV skills in Marksman and getting OWNED by one in the actual release, and that was WITH HELP. The balancing issues alone can be changed so drastically at launch (scaled, not re-tooled) that it makes the launch version of the game seem very unfair.Zannon wrote:Take it from me, I was in SWG beta for 6 months, it ends up being more work than fun. Fortunately I got into the Beta towards the end, so I only experienced the one character wipe. Many rollbacks, but just the one wipe.

Don't forget, you get that free luxary yact. I've decided Col. Haunter is more of the 'hands on' kinda guy when it comes to leading his troops, so he'll be seeing a lot of combat. Also, never hurts to have knowledge of a star fighter. Never know when it might come in handy. But, for all other intents and purposes, I could probly make Nyase or MP the shuttle pilot.
