Ringo's top 5 favorite bands. From the top boys!
5.
Queen
Call them anthem-producing-glam-rockers if you want, but Queen was an amazingly talented band, and produced some of the best known songs of their day. Highly original, yet super simplistic, Queen managed to keep things fresh from their drum beats, right through to their lyrics.
Best Known for: We Are the Champions/We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody
Ringo's Pick: Play the Game
4.
Foo Fighters
Dave Grohl's post Nirvana project may have been more successful than Nirvana itself. The Foofighters became one of the rock/grunge bands that took much of the spotlight in the mid 90's. In an era of sell outs, genre changes, and compilations, Dave has kept true to the roots of grunge rock music, and for a guy with an 8th grade education, has written some damn good songs.
Best Known for: Learn to Fly, Monkey Wrench
Ringo's Pick: Everlong
3.
The Who
Questionably the most talented four musicians in the same band, The Who were huge in the British invasion started by the Beatles. Being a bass guitar player, John Entwistle was such an influence in my playing style and technique. Any Who track is easy listening, but totally blows you away if you look deeper into the song, and try to pick up some of the bass lines and drum rolls, as well as the mini guitar solos thrown in so modestly by the band. Never one for showing off, the Who made hard music sound easy and fresh.
Best Known for: Baba O'Reilly, Won't Get Fooled Again
Ringo's Pick: Eminence Front
2.
Tool
Taking influence from bands like Crimson King, and Dream Theatre, Tool took on a genre all of their own. Bands such as the Deftones soon took on similar styles, but left Tool unrivaled. Being blessed with the most talented singer in the last 100 years, and the best drummer of our age, Tool could do no wrong after their debut album: Opiate. Tool fans are some of the most passionate, and devoted to their band. In an age of seemingly two albums a year from some pop artists, Tool has released only 5 since their inception in the early 90's. Bassist Justin Chancellor made popular the drop D tuning again, and Danny Carry became infamous for his extraordinary drum sequencing, again solidifying the bands unique sound.
Best Known for: Aenima, Lateralus
Ringo's Pick: 46 & 2
1.
Led Zeppelin
The best guitarist/song writer and bass player of all time helped make the best band in the history of music. Records are made to be broken, and it seems easy to say Led Zeppelin will never be touched as the most popular rock and roll band of all time, but its true. This kind of music can never be duplicated. Even with some of the bands I've mentioned, there are songs I just don't like as much, if at all. With Zeppelin, everything they made was gold. I love this band, and if you ever saw them live, I am jealous beyond belief. From Page to Plant, and Bonham to Jones, this band was the most talented, and innovative band ever to step foot on Earth.
Best Known for: Stairway to Heaven, Black Dog
Ringo's Pick: Dazed and Confused

I don't want to hijack the thread. I just have to ask... which one in the picture is Dave Grohl? I keep pretty good insulation from pop-culture knowledge (therefore - I know the music, but not the faces). I'm told I look strikingly like this fella when I used to have my college look on. Must be #2 or #3 from the left, not?
Music:
Most unpolished live bands. Local talent is so much fun.
Celtic style music ROCKS! Braveheart and the-like could sit on repeat.
Ginny Owens, Alanis Morisette (sp?), Michelle Branch, Jennifer Knapp
U2, Charlie Daniels, Wierd Al, Most Jock-Jams style stuff for nastalgia
Third Day, Mark Schultz, Rich Mullins, Jars of Clay, Chris Rice
Classical (particularly piano and cello), Carribean Islander Steel-pan
I know there's no pattern here and most people won't recognize alot of these names, but I'm usually excited by though provoking lyrics or pure instrumentals. Apparently I can't do both at the same time. I switch to female vocals to soothe a rough day; dunno why, it just helps.

I think we did this before but I listen to mostly country and southern rock.
After that its a bit of 80's music and older Metal.

A selection from every time period.
Medieval cantigas, Renaissance, typical "classical", Country, R&B, Blues, Hip-hop, Rap, Rock, Pop, Punk, Alternative, Indie, and what youngster's consider "80's" even though that is just a broad generalization of quite a few of the aforementioned genres.
I like what I like... usually not everything from any one artist or group.

I also like the kinda music like the duel of the faits on episode one. But I must say I also like The Who and Boston and many other bands form 1980's but I do not want to fill the post with images.

Yes, Styx went to our high school. A generation older than us, but they went to Lyons Township HS.

X'an and Skarr...My high school kicked the crap out of YOUR high school in football, repeatedly. And Dennis DeYoung is an ass clown.
The Belushi Brothers went to my high school. ...this gives me an idea for a new thread!

Because I've never cared about high school football.

Not at all X'an...but even in a civilized town, 6 state football appearances in illinois state 6A high school football in one decade is nothing to scoff at.
