Although I am tired of hearing about it personally, its a pretty good summation of SOE's smuggler failures. Its a part of a top 20 worst of the worst in gaming article from Gamepro.com.

What got me more tired was hearing about how it was going to be fixed, then not.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Gamepro reporter didn't come across this Thread in researching that article.

This chronicle of that marathon of lies was produced by Electricnomad (played under "Zucco" on Starsider), one of the earliest and most insightful Smuggler contributors going back before Beta.
Electricnomad, Smuggler_Caylin, JTGAlpha, and Solo4114 kept up the pressure via the forums and more than anyone, I believe, helped get Smugglers the little that they did get up until now. For their efforts, they were dubbed "The Four Smuggler Horsemen of the Apocalypse" :lol: by a vexed Correspondent at the time and the title sticks until this day.
Unfortunately, E'nomad and Solo4114, have long since gone. Caylin went to Austin, TX, delivered our revamp to the Dev's
personally, then quit, and E'nomad posted this chronicle before cancelling his account back in May 2004.
JTGAlpha ("Dayasi" of Intrepid) is the only one of them who still has an account.
Maybe that article from an outside source will help the ammo belt of the Smugglers and all other professions that experienced similar treatment.

Great Civil War (GCW), combat revamp, as well as smugglers are mentioned. Looks like the author just tried to give broad strokes of the most glaring problems in a single paragtaph.

This makes me wish I could still actually read the SOE forums. I've been curious on what garbage has been posted on the SL prof for a year now, but I can't get the damned page to load.

Here is a quick look for you Nyase from "Proposals we currently have on the table..."
Team Weapon/SL weapon - A specific weapon for SL or a group weapon used by the squad.
I was thinking that a special weapon, and some skills to use it would be a good idea. Since the Mobility tree is about dead, how about replacing it with a Heavy Weapon tree? like the squad heavy gunner position. Give us a cool new weapon, like a Squad Automatic Pulse Cannon. All the specials for this weapon could be AOE skills, like Area Bleed, or Area Leg shot. something like that. I can see my wookiee standing at the read of the group formation, laying down NASTY covering fire for the squad, and helping each of my squad members with their individual targets. this way, I'm helping each of them defeat whatevers comming at them. Have the ability work only when grouped, but I think it's a good idea.
Airlift/Dropzone - Designating a dropzone and flying the squad to that point.
Here's something I just thought of that I dont' think has seen any discussion on yet. How about the SL have the ability to his group in a shuttle from a city and put down anywhere on the map? Basically an air insert ability. Take it one step further and be able to call that transport back in to evacuate from anywhere and return to a city. (nearest city perhaps). There's a combat support ability for you. Get your guys into a fight quickly and be able to get them out of a jam in a hurry. You could make the enabling device something craftable, like a radio, that the SL would need to purchase from someone.
Fortifications - Similar to camps but used in combat only.
first off i would like to say that i'm a bit disapointed in how the last round of this discution turned out. all of the posts turned into a arugment between us and a few of the Rangers that desided to post here. I have been opening these threads as a means to keep this topic fresh durring what appears to be times where DEVs might be looking to find ways to improve this profession so its importaint that we keep ideas like this in constant discusion so that if at any time the DEVs say, 'hey that sounds like a really good idea tell me more' we will have all the information they need and more to help them understnad how we want these new ideas to be added into the game.
i want everyone to try to keep in mind that the DEVs have not even taken notice of this idea yet so there is absolutly no reason why we should be arguing about it. please post your oppinions to the proposal, include things you like and especialy parts you do not like, and expalin too. i want to be able to continue changing the proposal based on the rest of the SL comunities oppinions that way we can have this addition made so that everyone is happy with it.
To all SLs: im sure we can all agree that this is a perfict addition to our profession but please keep in mind the feelings of the ranger comunity as well. while they have no reason why they should feel threatened by this idea, some of them still do. and as much as i hate to admit it i do not belive that we will be able to get this idea past the devs unless we have a very strong support from the ranger comunity. please allow them to state their oppinions with out agruging with them, that's not going to help our case if we are as hostile towards them as we where last time.
remember that the Rangers are taking notivce of this thread because i have personaly invited all of them here. their oppinions are just as importatiant as ours are.
To Rangers: There has been a suprizing amount of support from the Ranger Comunity for Fortifications and to those rangers i say thank you. but to those that are still agienst this idea i ask you to please take a step back and look at this proposal from nuetral ground. We SLs are not trying to take anything away from you. we simply want to find ways to improve one of the most useless professions in the game

Granting Overt - Ability for the SL to grant overt status to the rest of the squad.
Scout/pointman designation - Send in one player to scout the area and "see" what they see.

Some nice ideas there. Like that squad weapon idea.
Would be really cool to see that tripod cannon the Snowtroopers had in ESB lickin' off shots like Vasquez and Frost from Aliens.

Yea, a SL gun would be nice. Considering you have to have ranged support to get teh bloody stuff
My personal fav idea is the fortress. I still don't get why SLs have to master the camping line of scout.
But the best ability of all that a SL should be able to get is: ORBITAL BOMBARDMENT!!! Oh yea, nothing like calling in the support fire. I can see it now...."Heavy fire coming from the north, sir!" "Relay cooridnates. Victor charlie niner alpha zero. Fire for effect!"
And on another note, that was Vasquez and Drake. Frost was just another guy with a pistol who died like a loser. Now Hudson, he was the man. If you're going to go, go like that. (Has his killing spree as startup sound)
