Tech help, please?

Okay, it looks like I need some tech support..

*bows head in embarassment*

I do not know very much about video cards. I'm having alot of difficulties with the video settings. I can never seem to find a happy medium where the game operates at a decent frame frate without studdering. The frame rate is all over the map. It will dip to 7fps and then up to 15 and then dip lower again. My ping is somewhere around 120(not bad considering I'm connecting from AZ)I'm sure that some of this is due to the fact that the client is not hardwired to the switch, but on a wireless network(roughly 2-7Mb per second). Here is the question. With the specs below, is this more of a network problem or a video card problem? I would like to get as detailed as possible.

Current Computer:

Pentium 4, 2.6GB, 533FSB
1GB PC 27000 DDR
ATI All in Wonder Radeon 9800 128MB
AGP 4X
Wireless B network connection.

The game is going to do that no matter that I ahve realized.

I just bought a GeForce 6800 and as soon as I got in to any city my frame rate is all over the place. Its a bit better than my Radeon 8500 but not by much. I really had anticipated upping my graphics settings with this upgrade but I am finding myselg putting them back at default the minute I left Nocturnus.

I don't know what the deal is. I have a few other games and they don't have these sorts of problems. The lag-free SWG is an elusive one.

Yeah, I highly doubt it's a video card problem because you're using better than I am (GeForce4 TI4200 128), but I can still pull almost 20fps running this game at 1600x1200. When I ran at a lower resolution, it was even smoother at 29fps.

If you don't see a fluctuation in your ping, I would highly doubt that it is a network issue either.

Yeah I am running an ATI 9k Pro and I run at over 20 fps most of the time. it will dip down to around 15 or worse in lagonet on occasion. I turned everything up the other night after we discussed this. Then the only thing I turned back down was in the shadowing. I switched it to simple instead of whatever all that other crap is.

Yes, and you may need to throw in a few more fuzzy animals into your case to improve performance.
