This is the story of Olympus.
Back during the beginning days of SWG, there was a guy who had two accounts, Redtick/Bluetick Hunter. For whatever reasons (most likely a deployment to Iraq, since he was in the service) he decided to quit the game and a guy wanted to buy his accounts. He sold them.
Now, the New Redtick (Bluetick was banned when SOE found out it was a sold account) lived just outside of Olympus and started a guild I-TTE, Immortals - Train To Elite. It's whole purpose was to get people into the Immortals who were quickily becoming a huge force as far as Rebels went.
Well, I know that a lot of the top members of the Immortals didn't like Redtick, although I don't know the whole story. I know that Hooch didn't like him for the various things he would do, and the fact that it was a sold account. Soon, the Immortals would have nothing to do with I-TTE.
Now, the New Redtick got the vast majority of the things he had off of Ebay and made no secret about it. He'd buy credits, accounts, whatever. When someone would leave the game, he would offer to buy their account. When I told him I was leaving the game so he would stop bothering me, he offered to buy mine. At that point, he had seven accounts. I have it on good word that he currently has twenty two (yeah, you read that right).
Well, one of the top guys in the Immortals decided to leave the game and, more than likely through Ebay, Redtick bought his account. As I said, this was a top level guy, so he had admin on the vast majority of all of the structures in Olympus. Redtick bought the account, then summarily went through every structure including houses and took everything he could.
Now, at this point, the Immortals were probably the wealthiest guild on the server since CRIM and BLS fell. This guy robbed them for hundreds of millions of credits worth of stuff. RIS armor, Medical suits, chef suits, legendary weapons, Mando armor... you name it and he took it. Remember, when it came to big names in crafting (Cyrkus, Cadian, Poya, etc), they were all there.
There was nothing the Immortals could do. They did their best to get his accounts banned but ultimately they just all quit the game. That led to the fall of Olympus.
At this point, Olympus is run by a sympathetic Imperial Mayor. It will never be what it once was.
