This letter does sound encouraging, though I have heard this story before..

Every new employee is a chance for the game to shine, as far as I am concerned. Hope she does a good job!

Yes, but now SOE has been taken behind the woodshed and beaten like a red-headed step child by WoW.

SOE, like everyone else, knows that there is no reason for an MMO with the name "Star Wars" not to be the best game ever. Yet its got one foot in the grave almost. It seems apparent that there's been a lot of hiring and firing going on with the SOE dev and creative teams.
The problem with Galaxies is that they have a well developed game that is missing the type of captivating content to keep people playing for a long time. They're stuck. They're stuck because there is no no easy way of re-engineering the game and keep all the features it has while accomodating the features they need to bring players back.
I am skeptical as to whether they are truly ready to re-invest in Galaxies the way they need to. The amount of work and programming they need to do to make it like some of the other MMO's is a daunting task.
I really hope they really plan on changing the game in big ways. I am just skeptical.

I think they can bring some interesting content to the game with the game the way it is.
They have the ability to create instanced areas.. they need to do this more.
The Warren was an interesting "dungeon", as was the Corvette.. if not insanely hard. I never even went to the DWB because I hear it was only for the largest groups of the uber.
The Village is a nice example of content. I thought the Garm Bel Iblis quests were decent as well.
They just need to get some good storytellers (GM type thinkers) on the team. They also need to look at the tools they have and find creative ways to use them.
They made mistakes by focusing so much of the content on the powergamer/jedi types. All the effort they put into the DWB and Jedi quests are geared to the powergamer.. and as we have seen, powergamers are game-jumpers. Roleplayers are the ones who tend to be your long-term subscribers.

Well, I am giving SWG a last chance to prove they can make the game fun after years of playing. If they can come out with another GCW related event that weould last several months just trickeling in new things and side quests I would stay 100%. But if they dissapoint me again and MEO proves to have better Story archs I will doubt my Galexies case will ever be touched again. I have spent a lot of my hard earned money on six accounts, five of which I use all the time. The fourth belongs to Akade my IRL cousin.

Unfortanately instanced areas like the corvette are extremely server intensive and require more boxes on the cluster meaning more admins/exmployees. That increases the daily cost of running an MMORPG. This is probably why they made its so hard to get on the vette in the first place, so that there servers don't get overloaded with thousands of requests for "instances".
Unfortunately its doubtful we will see more planets or instanced gaming until the cost vs benefits of running the hardware gets better (ie new, uber badass servers from the tech giants).
More planets/instances = More Servers x Number of Galaxies = lots of money.
SOE has to keep the game profitable as they try to recover. That is the greatest challenge.

I can't comment on what has to happen behind the scenes, because I have no clue. My comments are based on things they have have done already, and what I imagine is possible in the current state of the game.
I've heard some neat things about the village being attacked. Do more of that.. especially on the GCW front. Have a rebel base get attacked every night for a week by imperial NPC's... allow players to participate. Based on the outcomes.. make something permanent happen in the game. When your actions effect the world.. that is pure coolness.

I knew of a place that imp and reb trooprs spawned constantly. I haven't been there in a month, but I'm surprised more people didn't stop there. Perhaps it was too easy for the buffed/composite people?
It was a persistant GCW battle. I think my fights there were the longest I've ever stayed flagged. I would fight until all my pets were tapped out, my stims were gone, and my wounds were severe. (Or until a patrol of IMP players made me have to hit and fade or run for cover.)
All they would have to do is have a few places like that, and make the spawns scale with the balance of players in the area. More uber rebs + lesser imp players = spawn weak reb shock troops and bring in the AT-STs. People would farm xp like mad, but is that so terrible if you're legitimately fighting?
Come to think of it, I should check on that place again someday.

No.. Someone placed a house there and it doesn't work anymore. Now the enemy stands on each side and scratches their asses.

One more reason to move player homes into NPC cities. I remember the Gungan vs Imperial battle north of Moenia... and how player houses just worked their way into that area. I haven't really cared to go back. It just destroys the feel of a ongoing raging battle when "vender: d00dz uber lootz" is sitting in the middle of it.
