What happens when role-players go hunting?

Let me know what you think of this idea, I was thinking about posting this on the SWG forums for other people to participate in, or they can form their own groups (or whatever):
What happens when role-players go hunting?
Idea:
A transport destined for Dathomir crashed in a remote area of the planet. The survivors slowly emerge from the wreckage.
The doctor rubs his bruised arm. He begins to take inventory of his supplies. Everything appears to be in order until he notices some liquid dripping from his pack. He curses upon discovering that his buff packs are ruined.
The remaining survivors slowly come to. "Hello.. hello.. can anyone hear me?", someone speaks into their comlink. No response. The next person tries theirs, no response. One member of the group opens his com-link to examine the components. "Argh, EMP blast must have fried the relays."
The group looks at each other quietly. A roar of a large creature can be heard off in the distance. "Rancor", somebody whispers. Soon the reality of the situation sets in. A member of the group breaks down and begins to wail, "Were all gonna die, game over man."
A grizzled looking zabrak stands up and aims his pistol at a nearby tree. He quickly presses the trigger 3 times. He a wry smile curls across his lips as each blast strikes the tree in a tight group. "At least our weapons work."
A human surveys the landscape. He approaches the zabrak and points towards a deep valley. "The outpost is that way." The zabrak nods in response. The human looks up into the sky and says, "We had better get moving, it is only going to get darker."
A echoing bellow of a rancor can be heard in the distance, this one sounding closer than before. The group rises to their feet and begins to walk (or limp) towards the outpost, each knowing they would have to work together to survive.

I just need a little detail here. What part do the players play? The group or a rescue party? I like the idea of slapping a bunch of players in the middle of nowhere on a difficulat planet and make them find their way to the outpost without speeders or mounts. A few times we've had hunting trips where we just walk a long distance from point A to point B and killed everything along the way. It can be fun to add an RP twist to it.
I like it, run with it.
But I can't let you get away with this....
"Were all gonna die, game over man."
A Bill Paxton/Aliens line? The most famous one at that. C'mon lady, try a little harder than that.

So are we gonna RP Coiyonite hunting them down to kill them? That would be cool. Just looking for a reason to be a bastard...

...and from experience in this department. Make sure everyone is either one factor or a mix of neutral and one faction. RPing a mixed group in that situation can be a headache...expecially if everyone isn't on the same page when you start.

I seem to remember us trying this in Beta on Endor with a bunch of characters who hadn't even gotten Master Marksman yet.
BAD IDEA ;)
Sounds like it could be kinda fun.

Small Aliens note on a Bill Paxton line...
Remember when he says "Aliens. Rodriguez thought they meant illegal aliens so she signed up?" Well, the actress playing Rodriguez actually thought the movie Aliens was going to be about illegal aliens when she went to the audition.
As far as the idea goes, I think it would be GREAT if RP'd out and everyone in the group wasn't a combat profession. While going through screenshots yesterday I found 2 shots of the first time I saw a Rancor in the wild. It was trying to find the Imperial Prison and Dathomir was a very scary place.

Wow. I was hoping someone would do this. It would be nice to actually be needed as a healer in the field as opposed to being expected to sit in an outpost and buff people every three hours.

I would be up for this. I think it'd be a ton of fun. Personally, I hate going hunting buffed because it takes away the challenge...and the need for medic support.
Like X'an and i discussed the other night, we wanted to spend a ton of time hunting Jantas for their blood, not because we needed it, but because that seemed like something a couple of smugglers would do in character to sell on the black market (my loot vendor). I was going to work out an in-character reason for Dwilah to come with us to be our medic. With her along, we wouldn't have gone buffed (just drunk, cuz pirates love their brandy)....nfortunately, X'an became Mr. Suzy homemaker and has been decorating the mayor's house all week.

We're still going to do this. I'm stoked about getting some Janta blood for the black market.
I just need to get the decorating bug out of my system (since I haven't decorated ANYTHING in game, ever). Besides, I only have so much money left to blow on expensive items, anyway. Then I have to start playing to make money again.

To clarify... there would be no rescue party. Nobody knows where they are. It's just a group of players trying to fight their way across the landscape of Dathomir for survival.
Ideally this would be a situation where success is not assured, so it actually is a struggle. Maybe the the rezz packs break too.
This is one of those simple, open ended things that can make for a really good time and some great stories.
As far as Rebels and imperials are concerned. They CAN kill eachother if they want. This may turn out to be a huge mistake in the end.. but that is what roleplay is all about.
The last time I was scared in the game was when a NS unleashed Storm of Animosity on my group. Well, they don't do that anymore..

This could be a blast.
The one thing I need to figure out... Do we put a rule in to keep players from just avoiding all the mobs on the way back? Or do we just leave it open ended?
To tweak the difficulty, maybe we put an artificial cap on group size.

I think what Zan was originally getting at with the no Imp/Reb crossovers is not only is there an RP problem of the two sides always arguing, but a more practical tactical disadvantage, as you can't group with each other, heal each other, etc. So even something as simple as a team WayPoint becomes a pain in the ass.
From my understanding the last Reb/Imp crossover hunting party (that had a minimum of RP involved) went absolutely abysmally. Complete disaster.

Thats why it is nice to have a character on both sides of the fence. Although I don't enjoy playing as E-bo, an imperial, since the accident.

Sounds like fun, I'd be up for it. If you want to make sure players face some mobs add a little something to your story.
Give the ship that crashes some special cargo. Something valuable, something irreplaceable. Now as you enter the atmosphere of Dath and get close the surface the pilot dumps the cargo hold so you won't crash hard enough to kill everyone. Now not only do you have to make it to an outpost but you must retrieve the pieces of this cargo on the way.
Now you just have to do some planning right before the hunt. Look around for mobs and spans and set waypoints either on them or near them. Then force the players to hit those points on the way.
Just an idea.
