With the current movie script being shelved and now this:

Trek has officially died.
It appears the only real ongoing project in Star Trek is the creation of the MMORPG, but will that ever become more than vaporware with the demise of the franchise?

even a dead vulcan can come back to life...You just gotta shoot his dead ass to a artificially-rapidly-created planet...

call me nostradamus (a char on gorath actually {nostra and nustra} ) but I predicted this...
the new enterprise series was just another formula fitting river dragger. The hardcore corpses floated to the top, and eventually sunk again.
too bad really... I think the spin offs killed it.
Maybe Lucas will put the finishing touches on the deathblow to his franchise...
I love starwars but man the new crap just shouldnt be cannon... Lucas can kissem...

Call me an optimist but I don't think Star Trek will ever die, it may just hibernate.
The fan base is too huge and the stories and characters are much too timeless to really ever go the way of the dinosaur.
As of right now its sad. Very sad to see a see something as great as Star Trek was fall down the tubes. But if you give it time I guarantee in our lifetime we'll see a comeback.

I feel where you're coming from Jabe, but it's true that hardly anything in entertainment ever really "dies".
Battlestar Galactica?
If you've ever seen the sick attempt to save the '70's version of that show with Battlestar Galactica 1980, then there's one example that a franchise can rise again despite being mutilated and mauled. Who knows how long the new show will stay, but you see what I mean.
I can't exactly say how Star Trek could be reenergized but I've got an idea starting with 2 words: Diane Carey.
She's the best of the Trek book authors and if they'd just let her write an original story for series or movie adaptation, then they'd have a good foundation.
With her words and character development input they'd just need a good director to bring them to visuals. Wind 'em up and let 'em go.
Like Seret said, "in our lifetime". And probably sooner than later. There are just too many good stories left to be told.

I agree, Trek is dead. It's a sad, but I think Jolene Blalock's performance as T'Pol was just horrible. I think that might have drove the series into the ground.

Frankly I'm glad it's dead. I never liked Star Trek. The spin offs just made it worse, they should have stopped after the original, or next generation at the most. Where I come from you have a choice, Star Wars or Star Trek, you can't have both. You all know what I which I went with.

TNG was the last of the great ST series. I enjoy a few of the Voyager shows, probably a handful.

I have to disagree with you just a touch Novall. While the first season was pretty weak, I have to give some credit to the later season of Deep Space 9. I thought it was pretty good.

Guys, yeesh. Don't be so negative. Maybe it sounds Hallmark, but as long as you had a good time with something and have fond memories of it, I think it's a good thing. If you've got merchandise and tapes/DVDs of the movies/TV shows that you can watch again and say hey...I still really like this, then how is it dead? The legacy lives on. If you're saying it's dead purely because some guys with Tweed jackets aren't making money off it somewhere....well...

Well, all I can say is as long as Battle Star Galactica is on... I am good for my scifi tv viewing needs. That show is some of the best scifi I ahve seen in a LONG time. I think its the first time I ahve seen good writing go along with good special effects.
I do hope the Star Trek MMORPG becomes a reality at some point.

I couldn't agree with you more. I think the last time I got this excited about watching a Sci-Fi series was back when Space: Above and Beyond started.Jabe Adaks wrote:Well, all I can say is as long as Battle Star Galactica is on... Y'know, I loved that show. I like how the flight team all had card names. On another note...Zannon wrote:I couldn't agree with you more. I think the last time I got this excited about watching a Sci-Fi series was back when Space: Above and Beyond started.

My favorite episode was the one with Chiggy Von Richthoffen (sp?)? The alien ace who went around ruining people's shit? Until the old guy who couldn't fly smote him?
On a sidenote, the guy who played their old commander in that show...wasn't he in Band of Brothers? Can't recall his name in the show, but I think he was the guy who replaced Winters and then got really spacey and traumatized.

Do you mean the clone guy? On a side note, you're the first person I've heard other than Maddox use the phrase "ruining people's shit."Del'tar Chagas wrote:My favorite episode was the one with Chiggy Von Richthoffen (sp?)? The alien ace who went around ruining people's shit?
